Enjoy it Johnny, and thanks for the pics!

Edit: WTF is a VW Gol doing among all those supercars? Is the race divided into categories?

Yes. There are 5 categories:

- MM P1 - "Super Cars" - FIA GT, DTM cars, FIA prototypes with engines up to 2000cc / Brazilian cars starting from 2001cc

- MM P2 - " BR Prototypes" - Brazilian prototypes witn engines up to 2000cc ( Constructed following the FIA regulations and the car must have participated in at least one race of the Brazilian Endurance Championship).

- GT - "Gran Tourism" - All cars that follow the technical regulations of the N-GT division of the FIA GT championship.

- ST - "Super Touring" - All touring cars / sillhouette with front engines and front or rear traction, or with rear engines up to 2000cc.

- TC - "Touring Cars" - open to touring cars / silhouette with front engines and front or rear traction, or with rear engines up to 2000cm³

That VW Gol is the one owned by Ney Galvão.

Allow me to go off-topic. I'm glad that I could support talking about South American motorsport, to try to maybe help broaden the view of motorsport around the world. So I'm honored to show my respects for racing in South America from a North American like myself.

Having said that, the variety of cars is unlike Nurburgring, since you probably won't see any LMPs. Still, a Saleen S7 owning Interlagos is still a b*tchin' sight to behold. I don't think I see your team (Johnny) in these pictures, or I'm not sure if you're in the house there. Oh, I just read one of your posts, and I can see why your team is not there. Sorry to read about that. It still sounds like a great race. Or as I called it, the Nurburgring Nordschleife of Brazilian motorsport. Good luck to all competiting in Brazil.

By the way, how does Brazilian beer taste like? ;) I'm just joking! I'm no drinker.

Yes the variety is great. In one pitlane you have an Saleen S7R and then you see a Aldee Spyder Prototype (small open prototype with a 2.0 engine and 180hp).

And LMPs are not allowed to race (don't know why). I would call the Brazilian Nordscheleiffe, if we could still use the old Interlagos track layout. Anyway, it's a great place to be.

As for my team, yeah it's a shame. But i'll probably help a team, since i know most of the drivers and mechanics, and they won't let me just watch the race :D

The Beer. Well, there's lot of brands but for me (and most people), SKOL and BRAHMA are the best.

Some old Brazilian Stock Cars still being used:

Brazilian small prototypes
- Scorpius

- Aldee Spyder - small and ugly, but very reliable and fast.

Consider the small prototypes like something like our version of the Lotus Seven. Small, easy to build, cheap, and fast.

Going to eat something. See you later

Glad you liked them.

Here are some unofficial lap times. Tomorrow, sunday, is the Qualify.

PS: Although it wasn't raining, the asphalt was a little wet

The Nascar didn't make the grid?

The car won't race because the lack of some components. Plus the team didn't felt confident on setup the car so close to the race. So they are racing again with the Chevrolet Opala with a 650HP V8

Another car that didn't make the grid was the Radical SR2 Turbo Prototype with engine problems.

RACE PICS: (4 pages)
http://www.pontaracing.com.br/fotos/037_mil_milhas/index.htm

My resumed analysis of the race:

The ZF V8 prototype is amazing. The sound of that machines is beautiful. And the drivers said it's very enjoying to drive it, since it's an open prototype. The Audi TT-R has lots of electronics stuff, but it's "wilder" than the ZF.

The Viper didn't win this year, because both the Audi TT-R and the ZF did not break up. Plus, it only finish third because the Lister crashed and the Saleen had lots of problems. The Viper won in 2004 but was never the fastest car on track. Won by it's merits of not being the fast, but finished the race.

The Saleen. Oh well, i feel terrible for it. The Team was doing a great job. When Uwe Alzen went to the track , he had chosen for intermediate tires (when wet were more indicated ). Later on with gear problems and engines problems it didn't secured its rightful 3rd place.

The Lister was not a let down to be true. The whole team or the driver were. Whoever decided to put slick tires during the wet night is responsable for the crash.
