The 4s ends next year. I would tell them to get a 5S or wait for the 6. The reason being the 4s is too small and going to not be updated pretty soon,t doesn't have a 64bit chip which is the future, and it has a glass back which is easy to break.
Also for the guy saying don't get a Chinese phone. I have a China tablet and it works great. I checked it for spy stuff etc and it is fine. China wants to make money and putting tracking software onto them isn't smart. Maybe that has happened in some but on average that is just a scare tactic the news will tell you into buying a more expensive device. It's like when the media says don't do drugs because the drug dealers are selling fake stuff to trick you and take your money. They do realize if a drug dealer ever did that they wouldn't be in business long because no one would come back a second time to buy putting them out of business.
