No one here is uber L337 so chill, both of you;) , But i say the wreck a few nights ago on Speedvision, there were so many cars in such a small space, im amzaed that he survived, if this doesnt get through to the people who decided th get ovals into IRL then this sport is in for alot more serious and deadly wrecks, its just a stupid waste of time, energy, and somtimes a lif :(, nothing is worth that...

first off the speedway usually does not open all the stands cause it would'nt be economical to have spectators strewn around the track and then having to open more of the bathrooms and vending facilities. so instead they just allow the main stands in the front stretch to be occupied, and granted even those sections were not filled to capacity but they were close.

So you're telling me the track promotors built the grandstands just to close them off? Sure, that makes sense. Don't kid yourself, the thing was almost empty. Had a similar accident happened during a NASCAR race, the consequences would have been much worse.

(Gee, that's a lot of people wearing blue clothes, no?)

They closed 90% of the stands then, going by your judgement?

the texas motor speedway is owned by ISC which is part of the france family, and they own nascar. with Nascar being the primary series run there, and the main reason the track was built in the first place, dont you think they would have as many seats in the place as they can? the Winston Cup Series is the only single race that is capable of selling out the entire place, the Bush and Truck series only have the front stretch stands open during their race just like the IRL and many other series.

in that last pic you can see there is still a lot of people in the stands, no its not exactly full. it appears as if the first two pics dont exactly match up with the last one.

But it's in Australia, millencolin. Where the **** is Australia? Who's ever heard of Australia?

speaking of big crashes.

as much as i hate IRL, it sadden me to hear about the tragic death of Tony Renna at Indianapolis motor speedway.
He was out with his first test with his new team, Traget Chip Ganassi, when he hit the turn 3 wall at over 200mph.

there hasnt been a death in top level open wheel racing for a few years now, but this shows us that the chance of death will always be present in motorsport. no matter how safe the cars are.

Doesn't say in there but he was to get married exactly one month after Wednesday with his fiancé with whom he had been with for 6 years.
It is said that our time is up when our time is up. However, couldn't the IRL do something to prevent a catastrophe such as this from happening again? Lower speeds on the cars, etc.? I've never supported ideas such as those, until now.

its the downforce. those cars need downforce
Jimmy vasser said this this arvo at a press conference
"when those cars get airbourne, espically at 200mph, they are like a thin piece of plywood just flipping and flipping" it seemed that happened when i saw the crash scene, the fence and i think a bit of the grandstand was damaged (i cant be 100% sure, fuzzy tv reception) imagine if there were people in those stands

and yeah he was going to get married in 4 weeks
that is so ssoo tragic

:(

EDIT: not to be morbid, but is there a vid of it somewhere?

No - it was a tyre testing session, so it's believed there was no footage. From what I've been able to glean the car may have caught a touch of the grass on the inside of turn 3 which put air under the car, and it went into the top of the catch fencing, missing the new saftey barriers - it apparently destroyed about 50 feet of the fencing. If there were spectators there would have been deaths in the crowd. The survival cell finished up back on the track, apparently.

Yea, thats what I heard - that he nibbled the grass on the inside of the turn. It is really so sad. They need to do something to prevent cars from gettting airborne so easily. Thats the second airborne accident in 10 days.
