Okay I'm mad as hell. My game keeps s******g out. I don't understand it and it's really pissing me off because it's almost unplayable. If my PS3 has been off for a while I can turn it on and play fine for a bit, and by bit I mean maybe like 15 good minutes. Then the game will start having sound cut in and out on the menu at a race track and I can't go on track and if I can go on track it won't render fully and the system will freeze/crash when I try to exit the event or go to home. It also is being awful in online rooms and will not load the track, not fully render the track, or freeze during the countdown for the race. As I am typing this the game is failing to load a demo which I am able back out from. When the game freezes I can try to quit the game by going to the pictures or PS store on my system, but that rarely works, most of the time any attempt to turn off the system and/or exit the game results in it crashing and me having no option but to unplug it from the back. My game was working perfectly fine until this started happening a week ago for no apparent reason. Like I said, it's pretty much unusable and it's seriously pissing me off. Is anybody else having this problem or have any ideas for fixing this?

Sounds like your laser needs to be either calibrated or replaced.
That was something I thought at first because GT6 has cause me to replace the laser once already. When it went out before though it didn't work at all. Now it works just fine when I start playing before it tries to crap out, which is really making it hard to understand for me.

Have you replaced the controller unit too? Make sure all numbers ad up to your particular machine before doing so, though.
I had to do that with my old FAT PS3.
Ended up buying a new machine though...

What is the the controller unit?

Do other games work?
Yes they seem to, maybe because they aren't as heavy as GT6? All the problems occur during some kind of loading process in GT6.

What about GT5? Any problems there?

If you can't see the same problem in any other game then it seems to me like there's something wrong with either the disc or the installation.

Maybe you have some bad scratches on your disc? Just something that could be causing it because a friend of mine has scratches on his disc and his game sometimes freezes and stuff, but nowhere near as bad as you...

The controller unit is a card that controls the reader. It is series specific, so the serial number on the card has to be the same as on the PS3.

It can still be a hardware problem, even if all other games work fine. I had this exact problem with GT5, and my first thought was the disc, but at closer inspection, it turned out to be the reader and its controller unit. If you have no warranty left, it is a fairly easy fix if you're a bit handy. There are instruction videos on youtube if you need them.

I haven't tried GT5 I'll have to.

I originally thought it might be dirty but it looks pristine, I always do a pretty good job of keeping those in good shape.

I have the problem that when I take about ten pictures it shows a black screen when it is suppose to show the taken image and then the system is frozen - have to reboot! It 🤬 sucks!

I'm going through the same problem. I replaced the BR drive once, now this one is going. All I'll say is if you paid around $45 like me you got a used one. So they arent going to last as long.

Edit: I know some people will say buy a new PS3 already! But not everyone can afford to run out and buy a new PS3 every time something goes wrong.

Doesn't help but a simple solution to stop the heavy wear on the laser would be if PD/Sony let those who bought the disk download it for free.
Disk no longer required & I would not be surprised if things load quicker to from a full hard drive install.

It sounds like to me your laser is dying again, or you bought the wrong laser the 1st time. They're dirt cheap on Amazon $8- $35 brand new, depending on your model number.

Also the file restore tools on your PS3 should be monthly maintenance for any PS3 used more than a couple hours a week.

Why would they do that? People would trade their games in, which means a possible future sale is lost.

Well a heck of a lot of companies do just that in PC land & if your worried about people returning the disk there are simple ways round that for instance requiring the disk in the drive to play but after the game starts it is no longer accessed.

It could be solved by simply making a full instalation of the whole game on the HD,and making a "disk require" system,it would preserve the laser of HD and prevent trading by forcing people to launch the game with the original disk.

You know that's pretty much what GT6 does already with regards to installation, right? I'm not sure why they don't just do what you two immediately above have said about using disc on launch alone, but that's very different to your original idea, @Wide Boy. A free download can be shared with a friend, on top of what I said before. I'd know. :sly::lol::cheers:

On topic, I'd recommend you get the digital version if it's an acceptable option to you, @Amac500. It's apparently noticeably faster than a disc, even one with the full installation. 👍

Edit: forgot to say, the reason that works on PC is because they have a one time activation code, meaning the disc becomes a worthless piece of plastic to a subsequent purchaser. "That's why PC games are cheaper", if you believe the publishers (even though console games with an online pass are priced normally). Aaand, this'll become another anti publisher post if I'm not careful, so I'll stop now.

Well, it appears to be the dicc reader (that I already replaced once), because I just put my disc in to practice for my league race tonight and the system would not read the disc. :grumpy: Really not happy with PD. There isn't even a way to contact them directly with your problems and you can't email PlayStation on their website. Really not happy with this whole system and PD better not cost me another disc reader. This is just stupid.

God I am having an awful day actually. First my PS3 stops reading game discs again, now I can't login to my Flickr account. I had it keep me signed in on my laptop since I made the account, but I get home from taking a final and find it has signed me out and I can't get signed back in to it. What a mess :ouch:

Look on the bright side things happen in threes one more & everything will be all right for a fair while.

Don't take as gospel but when you replace I am sure several places sell for a few bucks more better quality replacements than standard.
