The C6, NSX, Aztek, and some cars I won't mention to be nice, are designers high?

hmm, the poll isn't letting me vote...if it would I'd vote no.

Atleast "no" for the cars I love, Mazda. Thier design seems to get better and better, and thier cars look awsome.

As for most other companies, yes they are getting worse. Probably cause they are cheapening up thier cars...

I also have to agree with this

With a lot of cars. I say Hell YA!!!! Like the Aztek and the new Civics

There are some nice designs but not many

ive gotta say no to australian design...but american design...god those oversized bumpers and grills really suck.

ill vote no for australian automotive design.

Well, seems like everyone is stuck on one model and not the picture as a whole.
Considering the world market and the cars it builds, I say yes. What we dont realize, this is the future beckoning us to see whats new and some just dont see it.
Look at Cadillac, Audi, VW, Nissan, BMW and many others in design. You have to give credit where it is due and remember that just 5-10 years ago, we were complaining about the egg and bars of soap our beloved cars were akin to.
I love the new lines that new cars are getting and cant wait for some of the concepts to come out with their version when they come out.
We are in an exciting time in the automotive world and some of us just arent keeping up. :D

Misnblu-I was talking about the whole picture if that's what you meant.

In Mazda's case, they have 4 exellent cars currently: the Protege, Protege 5, MPV, and Miata. Then the remaining cars(Tribute, B-series, Millenia, and 626) are good in thier prime. Then look at what's going to happen: The Mazda 6 replaces the 626 and Millenia, so then the exellent 6 replaces the ok 626 and Millenia, so you now have 5 exellent cars. And then the RX-8, that's 6 exellent cars out of 8. Not bad at all if I say so myself.

Now some may fight me on that, but if you think about it, there's only a couple of other companies with that good of a ratio, and those are probably more expensive than Mazda.

Kinda works out like that...

and the RX-8 in GT3 isn't even the final production one...once you drive the real one you will be in awe...

MazKid, you really like your Mazda's dont you?? ;) :D
Dont just look at Mazda but at the whole group of cars the world is coming out with. Sure Mazda has some good cars, thats your opinion (nothing wrong with that) , but as a whole the automotive WORLD is a yes in design.
There will always the the platypus (spelling??) of cars out there and some will even buy one, but as a whole the world is coming out with some really nice rides. Dont overlook the good cars among the family of platypusses.  ;)
Misnblu

CHange is good.

well, yea if you look at the world, cars are going down...but that's fine with me, let the ugly cars come out, and Mazda will sell better...

And yes I do like my Mazdas...

I'm obsessed...but when I look at most people's hobbies, I'm way better off than most.

well... i'll let you guys decide...

brera14.jpg

Alfa Romeo Brera

vanquish.fram.jpg
Aston Martin Vanquish

and i could go on and on, but i'm running out of ideas...

don't generalize... it's not because there are a few ugly ones that all of them are ugly...

the AMC Pacer comes to mind... :yuck:

No is the answer. It may be going downhill but there's a LOT of fresh ideas out there. Let's capatalise on thm!

I agree with misnblu. There's a lot of great-looking cars out there. Sure, there's a handful of lemons out there, but I think if we consider the long list of solid -- if not excellent -- designs put out in the last few years against the short list of fugly spittoons on wheels.... Well, it's those few tarnished Cracker Jack prizes that cause the most discussion. Gems like the F360 and Zonda don't get much discussion time because, honestly, the discussion would be rather repetitive and "car crashes sell more newspapers". :)

Then there's the not-gonna-make-prom-queen items like the R34 GT-R and EVO VI Extreme whose ridiculous abilities more than make up for the tacky garnishes.

My answer to the poll? No, it's not going downhill...but it may be getting polarized between good (ahhh...McCallum) and bad (Bangle!Bangle!Bangle!). ;)

Ah, Hooligan, yes but some may argue that there should be no 'tarnished Cracker Jack prizes' in the first place.

No, there shouldn't be, but everyone flubs sometimes. The first Corvette wasn't quite the looker it was in '57. The Volvo 240 wasn't exactly Pininfarina-designed. And don't get me started on late-70's Saabs. All of these companies make great designs these days. Even those with "terrible" sheetmetal art have something in their lineup worth drooling over. I'll even give the benefit of the doubt as to whether the BMW 1-series (from the pen of the One Whose Name I Will Not Say) will look as good on paper as it does in person. This is besides the Z3, M3, M5, and Z8.

My point was that there are fewer failures then there are moderate successes (i.e., competent designs). I think it's been consistent since Day 1. Call me a fan of history....

Flubs!? Don't these losers want to make money? It's pretty clear to me that glory company BMW doesn't. Yes, I like the 7-series but I think about eighty percent of former 7-series owners will not be returning next time around. Flub!? Ha! I need a better explanation than that!

Hmmm . . . I dunno. At the time, the '57 Vette was quite the lust object. I can't say the same for the 240DL or '70's Saabs. ;)

A fan of history!? Well, the only thing we learn from history...:)

A special note to Talentless:
Are you getting ready to post a degrading, harsh, or downright stupid comment?
Think before you speak! GTPlanet is only as good as you make it.

Please tell me this message is just for me.

Did the Ad Council approve it?

I think you got the gist of my definition of "flub". I consider the current 745i a flub: nice engineering, great build quality, but dubious design. A design that causes too much consternation; gives people pause. That's a flub -- the one thing that keeps a car from being great. Of course, it could be more that one thing: poor design and poor iDrive. ;)

Just teasing on the iDrive part.... :D
