I'm thinking about buying Dirt 3 tomorrow, but I'm afraid of the handeling because...

the name.

It might seem the weirdest reason ever, but since the game isn't called Colin McRae anymore, Codemasters way of creating changed a bit I think, and I'm not very confident with it, as I only have F1 2010 and I'm afraid this game isn't good anymore. Is it good for beginners *only played CMR 2, but it was awesome*, is it a good game overall, what are it's weak spots and best spots?

Dirt 3 is awesome. Very easy to get into, assists and difficulty can be changed.. and its just great fun! :)

Weak points.. after playing on a PC then a PS3 the Ps3s graphics are a bit messy :)

Is Pikes Peak in? And Dakar?

There is no Pikes Peak in DiRT3, or Dakar for that matter. Some of the vehicles that take part in those race events are in the game though (Monster Sport Suzuki SX4, VW Touareg Dakar Rally, etc).

And I think the game is great, but it doesn't seem to have as much replay value as DiRT2, especially online. That's just my opinion though.

Ah, the cars are in at least, always loved those huge machines.

I've heard DiRT2 does not have much point to point rally's, for me the best thing in rally's.

Get Colin McRae DiRT, the first of the 3 on the ps3. I found it better than 2, havent played 3 yet. 1 has Pikes peak in sections i think, haven't played it in a while. Was thinking of buying DiRT 3 as well after christmas.

DiRT3 has more Rally events (point to point) than DiRT2, yes.

Isn't the VIP Pass free? I'm certain that you don't need to pay for that, but the DLC packs do cost a few Euros each.

Could be, but the PlayStation Store asks for 8 euro's, while the site says this:

USE THIS FORM TO GET YOUR PLAYSTATION®NETWORK REDEMPTION CODE. THE VIP PASS CODE IS AT THE BOTTOM OF THE FLYER THAT WAS IN THE BOX.

And asks for the code and my e-mail for a code.

Lets hope its in after half a year.

Yes! Great game. Best in the series, #1 is close though.

Doesn't the game come with a VIP pass in the box? Only if you've purchased the game used would you need to buy the VIP pass in order to play online.

Lastly DiRT 1 has the full 12 miles of Pikes Peak!

I'll think I will buy DiRT 1 maybe later then.

The new price of DiRT 3 is 40 euro's, so if its 20 used I will buy used.

Altrough I want the Monte Carlo tracks and the cars and the brembo, that would be 14 euro's. Add 8 for a Vip Pass and that's 22. Add the GT5 DLC and its 26. Is there a way to just put like 30 euro on my PSN without buying 2 cards?

Just bought it, they were just packing them out at the store so it came with a plastic sealing (and no ability to return it, luckily I asked you guys and watched reviews)

Forgot to buy a PSN card, but I do have the VIP Pass.

Dirt3 is fun, but replay value is a huge let down.... as everyone usually only played trailblazer or gymkhana stuff. If you're willing to hose a weekly time trial like I did, then you'd definitely be getting the most out of this game.

It has the whole pikes peak with no loading times if you get far enough in the game. After a few weeks that was all I did with Dirt.

Yes, Monte Carlo is absolutely worth it. It has some of the most challenging stages in the entire game. Codemasters very deliberately kept it for DLC because they felt the stages were so difficult that they would alienate casual gamers. Careening around in a Group B car or something from the 1970s (particularly the Mk. II Escort, though it, too, is DLC) in the middle of the night and without a HUD is a lot of fun.

For example, this is what the stages in Finland look like:

And this is what the stages in Monte Carlo look like (Gorges de Pianon and Lacet de Blanc are particularly good):

Although these maps do highlight the problems with the game: many of the stages are made up of the same roads. You won't notice it at first, but once you start to learn the stages, the game gets a lot easier (until Codemasters deliberately throw in an underused stage, like Kakaristo in Finland or Paalsrudvegen in Norway).

I bought it, and it were some cool tracks. Too bad there isn't one that uses the full road in the middle, like Lankamaa in Finland.

If you want a decent rally, try doing Gorges de Pianon and Col St. Roch - both use the longest stage layouts, and both run in opposite directions.

I would also suggest taking a look at the Shibuya DLC. You only get two rallycross circuits, but they're a major improvement on the ones in the game. For example, these are the LA Coliseum stages, perhaps the most complex circuits that ship with the game (while technically difficult, the Monaco rallycross circuits are physically very simple):

And these are the Shibuya stages:

(Although only layouts 1, 2, 7 and 8 are in the game - I have no idea why the artist included 3, 4, 5 and 6.)

I have to admit I found d3 a huge disappointment, I loved d2 (even with its daft American style and online flaws). It was and still is a blast to play, d3 is just not as good graphicaly and gameplay wise. Yes I prefer the rally in d3 but the rest of the game is toss, I traded my copy of d3 in after 2 days and carried on playing d2 and gt5

If I get DiRT 3, it would be my first-ever DiRT experience apart from being a Colin McRae Rally veteran. Doesn't look like I'd have anything to be disappointed about based on what I've seen in videos for this game.

Having played almost every Colin McRae Rally game since the first one was realeased, I can say that you shouldn't really be disappointed with DiRT3, although I personally have a soft spot for DiRT2 as it's much more fun to play online than 3 in my opinion.

Don't get me wrong though, 3 is an enjoyable game for the most part, but it never really lasted as long as I had hoped, plus the Gymkhana events never appealed to me either.

I found it to be an all round failure of a game. I haven't read all of the posts, if you bought it, it’s not a total loss, but I think there are significantly more cons than pros.

The steering is stupid, it doesn't let you progressively let the game help you become a better driver, it’s either wax on or wax off, the way it takes the wax off, gives it the difficulty curve of a 90 degree brick wall.

The cars are alright, it has a good list, and the modifications are not too bad, but since the gameplay is so critically flawed, I couldn't recommend this to anyone. Yes I played with a steering wheel, I found it a better game on PS3 with a stick (my friend has that version).

That friend had Dirt 2, which he loved, but found Dirt 3 to have similar problems even for him a skilled video game rally driver.
