Is GT3 worth buying if I already have GT4?

I'm going to expand my PS2 game collection pretty soon and I was just curious if people here think it's worth tossing GT3 into the mix while I'm at it. It's not expensive (like $1 used :sly: ), but I'm not sure if I'd even bother with it when I already have GT4. Is there anything in GT3 that GT4 doesn't have? Anything GT3 does better?

Although I admit that I have not played GT3 once since GT4 came out, I would definitely buy it and give it a play. It's worth it.

It's worth it providing you don't expect a great car collection (one of the things that truely let the game down...less then 200) and the physics to be as they are in GT4

You can build hybrids in GT3 but you cant in GT4. :dopey:
What do you mean by that? You mean you can make a custom car out of two other cars? Or that you can somehow build a hybrid power vehicle?

You can swap bodies, engines, tires, chassis, wheels, just about anything from one car to another. It was one of the only things that kept me playing GT3 for over a year straight. An example would be the entire 787b drivetrain under a mini cooper body. Or one of my most notorious hybrids. The F1 drifting indy car with 20" wheels. :sly: Sorry for the poor quality but I made the video a long time ago. THere is a section on hybrids you should check out if your interrested. Here is the video of my hybrid F1. Drifting F1 with 20" wheels

I can't really see any reason why you'd miss GT3 from your PS2 collection, maybe for $1 but i don't think it has anything that GT4 doesn't have.

As I just said. GT3 had hybrids. :sly:

...as long as you have the equipment and knowledge of how to do such witchcraft.

Its not an 'official' feature of GT3.

$1? Go for it!

I play GT3 whenever my brothers have GT4. Even if you don't play it much, you'd have more use for GT3 than a dollar bill.

You need two things: a Sharkport, MaxDrive, or other method of getting game saves off the PS2 and onto a Windows computer, and MK's utility program, which (although complicated) does allow you to severely goof around with Frankenstein cars. Search for GT3 Genome Project for a hilarious video of hybrids put together by two of GTP's moderators.

My favorite hybrid is my Calibra-drivetrained PT Cruiser, given to me by an old friend who used to hang around GTP.

Cant forget to plug my hybrid video....

If you really want to make hybrids in GT3, all you need is Famines site, All of that video is me, just self taight hybridding from the site

As far as I'm concerned, GT3 is the only GT game worth buying when you already play GT4.
  • GT1 and GT2 are great for purists and nostalgic racers, but they look crap on a PS2 compared to GT4 (especially GT2, which has perhaps the worst portability of all PS1 games)
  • GT3 Concept and GT4 Prologue were ok while people were waiting for GT4 to be released, but they are way to short and too limited.

And hybriding really is a great feature 👍 👍 👍

I say if it's only $1 then buy it. It is worth it just to do the elise and Italian avante garde races. Those races were incredibly difficult. Especially the elise race.

My opinion is that GT3 is the worst of the GT games so far. The only thing it did better than GT1 and/or GT2 is graphics. It would also allow unlimited qualifying attempts in any race, if one considers that a plus.

But for a dollar, hey, go for it. Your opinion could well be different from mine.

Oh, sorry guys, it's actually $2. :P

But I figured I'd just get it unless everyone here said to skip it. I doubt I'll play it as much as GT4, but the price is so small I'll barely notice the difference.

Buy it! It's more fun than GT4, more realistic than GT4, has nicer-looking graphics, and a much better soundtrack. I'm sure no one here will agree with me on those things, but I don't give a 🤬 , it's true.

The only drawback is a relative lack of cars and tracks... :indiff:

Eh...the one thing other then cars and tracks that annoyed me was their desperation to get you to re-run the races with the random multi-car prizes..

I do agree on all points except the nicer-looking graphics.
As for the soundtrack, I found Feeder pretty appropriate to that kind of game indeed.

I disagree about the graphics, I'm mixed about the physics realism, I disagree about the fun (not that I disliked GT3) and I turned the music off the first time I fired up either game.

I say GT3 looks nicer because GT4 is too sharp -- there's too much shimmering on distant objects and the infamous screen-shake issue crops up now and then. On top of that, they're both running off of the same engine and GT4's improvements are slim no matter how you slice it.

I actaully miss that feature It makes the races more fun when you don't know exactly what you might get, and makes for better replay value because you won't win the same car over and over again. My only beef was that in some races it was 3 POS's, and one badass car that one would actaully want.

GT4 has better graphics but just by a little

Yeah and you'd get the 3 POS's about 5 times in a row before finally getting the decent car

i liked the complex string on gt3. why did they get rid of it. i started drifting in gt4 but i should make a drift car in gt3. that track looks like it would be fun and challenging to drift.
