Is GT3 worth buying if I already have GT4?

Well, GT4 comes just as cheap technically. But anyways, if you already have GT4, than yes I would spring for GT3. The only things GT3 doesn't do better than GT4 is track selection and car selection (the models are higher res. in GT4, but the textures work better in GT3). Otherwise GT3 is superior in every way.

You need two things: a Sharkport, MaxDrive, or other method of getting game saves off the PS2 and onto a Windows computer, and MK's utility program, which (although complicated) does allow you to severely goof around with Frankenstein cars. Search for GT3 Genome Project for a hilarious video of hybrids put together by two of GTP's moderators.

My favorite hybrid is my Calibra-drivetrained PT Cruiser, given to me by an old friend who used to hang around GTP.

Actually you only need one thing. A game shark. You can input the codes yourself.

But it is easier and quicker to have what you mentioned.

Yes because the Rally Driving in GT3 is 1million times better than rally driving in GT4!

And, when you buy a set of wheels, they are stored into your garage forever! and you can put them on any and all cars!

I remember going through and buying them all in one go, just to get it out of the way.

The Dream Car races were quite competitive, too. I didn't mind running them over and over again. Rallying was more fun, enduros weren't as obnoxiously long, multiple "historic" F1 cars could also be won, unlike the one-size-fits-all FGT in GT4. The real fun with GT3 was the prize cars, I didn't even race that many "for purchase" cars for very long, since nearly every type of car was available to win. For $2, you can't go wrong, even if you get bored after a month or two.

If you need a tremendous variety of cars to drive, and don't mind the dip in graphical quality, I humbly mention giving GT2 a shot. It's easy, but fun.

IIRC (and someone will correct me if I'm wrong), you only needed to purchase 2 cars to get 100% completion on GT3 -- a Tuscan Speed 6 and any sort of Mercedes I believe. You could do everything else in the game with prize cars. Now in GT4, you have to purchase 32 cars I believe to get 100%.

One thing I missed about GT3... I liked to start over at day 1 fairly often, and in GT3, it was possible to do all of the licenses and then do the 10 enduros as your first 10 races. And you could win all 10 and have a fairly decent amount of money left after that.

Now in GT4, you can't do the enduros until you've worked through 25% of the game. :(

There's definitely reasons to play GT3 even if you have 4.

I miss the random prize car thing. Being able to know 100% what car you will win in every race just really sucks. I must have raced the superspeed way enduro in 3 about 4 times before I got my first F1. But it was enjoyable.

There's a lot of little things from all of the previous games that need to be in GT5 and plenty of things from GT4 that need to be left out.

You don't start out with enough money to get the Tuscan nor the Mercedes cars. So it must be 3 cars.

You can win 7 cars before even "getting into" a car -- one for each of the 6 licenses (for all gold), and one for "golding" each of the 10 time trials in Arcade mode.

Ah. I didn't think of that.

Also, once you won the Esperante, you could easily accumulate enough money to buy the required cars. I haven't tried the 2 car-buy thing yet, but once I finish this time around (2nd time through), I might give it a go.

You need to buy an Audi TT, I believe, as well. Look on the GT3 board. There is a thread (or several threads) on the subject.

American Championship, Amateur League.

Don't ask me how you can win an Audi TT in the American Championship...

Or why you win an Audi TT for the Beginner League TT race... The same car that you needed to enter the race.

Why does the Pro Clio Trophy series reward you with a... VW New Beetle Cup car???

GT4's prize cars at least seem a little more logical than GT3's.

I don't know about that. The Premium Sports Lounge gives you the glitchy version of the Ford GT. 4 Hours at the Ring gives you a car that can walk the 24 hour version. The French championship gives you a Citroen 2CV, as does the 2CV cup. The Alfa Romeo cup gives you a car that is downright shamed by the 147 GTA. As does the Suzuki K-car cup. The Aston Martin cup gives you the car you needed to get in. So does the Subaru 360 cup and MG festival. The low car German race gives you a DTM car.

I don't know about that...

Well, with very few exceptions, in GT4, if you enter a race associated with a particular region, country, or manufacturer, you will win a car associated with that same region, country, or manufacturer.

That certainly was not true in GT3.

Amateur Stars and Stripes --> Spoon S2000.
Amateur American Championship --> WRX STi, RX-7, Audi TT.
Professional Clio Trophy --> VW New Beetle Cup car.

Not to mention that GT3 would randomly give you a prize car from several choices, which were often wildly imbalanced. Roadster Endurance chose between: Miata, Miata, Miata, and oh, this nice little "F1" car.

Yeah I'd go for GT3, I took it out for a spin last week, which was the first time since GT4 came out. I was surprised at how the handling was so much different. In GT3 it feels sort of floaty, like Toca Race Driver 3. Still, tons of fun anyway using a hybrid made thanks to Famine's guide!

If you have the oppurtunity, BUY IT! It is a great game, with graphics similar to GT4 which is pretty impressive seeing it was made years before. The game will not let you down, I still have more fun with GT3 than I do with GT4, because GT3 seems more like an arcade game, and doesn't have as much elevator music. :)

There are also tracks that are great, such as Special Stage Route 11 and, my favorite, Complex String. 👍

I'm going to expand my PS2 game collection pretty soon and I was just curious if people here think it's worth tossing GT3 into the mix while I'm at it. It's not expensive (like $1 used :sly: ), but I'm not sure if I'd even bother with it when I already have GT4. Is there anything in GT3 that GT4 doesn't have? Anything GT3 does better?

A BIG YES

Ordered it yesterday along with many, many other PS2 games.

Also, yesterday, my brother discovered that you can't do donuts in GT4. Hopefully GT3's physics engine will allow those :)

It does. Drifting is also much, much easier.

In arcade mode you can also choose between two driving modes; one, I believe is "Race", and the other one is "Drift". ;)

I got out GT3 the other day having not played it since the arrival of GT4. Yes the handling is different and the graphics are similar. But I had hours of fun revisiting some of the tracks I had forgotten about - Rome, SS11 and Complex String for example. If you haven't got it GO OUT AND BUY IT. It's a great game.
nige :) :) :)
