I wrote this aiming to clear my thoughts, and learn bout others opinions. So please, I respectfully ask that you remain reasonable and polite at all times. This is not a negative point of view to the game, simply, a discussion.
Thank you.
I'll start simple. Are you getting your money worth in Gran Turismo 5?
After much reflection I reached a conclusion. The answer is, NO. Want to know why? Then please, keep reading.
It all started in November 2010. after many years in the development (nearly 6 years) the most anticipated title in the PlayStation finally gets released to the public. Only for the die hard fans to find a half finish product. Surely you know what I'm talking about, it has been long enough for a lot of people to have their say on this, so I won't go into details on this.
One of the things that got me upset, was the Signature Edition of the game. Man I want that thing so bad! This packaged not only brings you the game you where so dearly waiting for, but it also brings a scale model, a book, and among other cool stuff that any GT fan would love to have. Plus, you get the all famous chrome line and stealth cars that everyone envies. This edition of the game came at a incredible high retail price of 179.99/£180.
The spec 2.0
This was a great deal for fans all around the world. GT5 got bigger, better, and much more enjoyable. Spec 2.0 promised to deliver the game we should have had long ago. And in some way, it kinda did.
Also, for the first time, we get DLC. Of course, this being the first time, Polyphony Digital had to tackle this with caution, so the DLC was something good, and yet not too risky.
The first DLC, launched on October 2011. More cars, and two new tracks, paints and suits for your driver avatar. There was enough for everyone to be happy with.
Then, as time progressed, more DLC became available. That's great isn't it? Well, not really, and let me tell you why...
Even though you are adding new cars to the game, there isn't a great deal you can actual do with them. Don't get me wrong! I love the fact that the game got more cars to an already huge, and fantastic collection. But please, be reasonable, don't jump into conclusions, or simply copy others. Think for yourself, and think hard. What are you doing right now with those DLC cars?
Combined price of all the DLC since October 2011 until the most recent 27th July 2012 is nearly 40.
And it's not like you're getting much out of it anyway. I mean, at least for every car or track pack we could get some PSN trophies, right? Like, achieving a certain speed on the SSRX, or beating a lap time in each variation of montegi. If not trophies, at least some use like new events.
I bet what you're thinking right now, "don't like it, don't buy it", however, here's the kicker, I actually DO like it. So why am I complaining I hear you saying? I'm not complaining, far from it, I am simply putting things into perspective. and hopefully make people realize the something needs to be done
Now, so far the combined price tag of Gran Turismo 5 is of 220! That's incredible! All that money so that you can have everything that has been released...so far.
Academy Edition
Oh yeah, because now with this Academy Edition, priced at 29.99 (very decent price I admit, very rarely games go lower than this as the second hand sale system is not available in most countries yet) you get all those DLC (expect montegi) plus, and exclusive car. Now, you want that car. You do, don't you? Well add another 30 and you spent 250 all together.
Assuming of course that you already have a PS3, unlike many, who waited years for GT5 so that it could justify the purchase of a PS3...and a wheel...then a place to mount the wheel...see where I'm going with this? Good, because I don't feel like looking up prices of PS3 back then and wheels.
So, the conclusion. With all this money spent by fans around the world, why, I ask politely, why aren't I getting my money worth? It will only be worth this much money if the game gets some common sense as a DLC...probably sponsored by Nissan, and then gets delayed.
Sorry for the bad joke, but it's not like PD has had a very good communication with their customer either.
*all prices and products mentioned here are available within European region. No other products or promotional packs have been made reference here.*<<This is purely my point of view, and does not represent hat or negativity towards the Polyphony Digital team, sony, or any one linked directly to Gran Turismo 5>>
Thank you.
