Is gt5 TOO expensive?

Agreed.
The only games that cost less but gives you amazing moments and plenty of hours of playtime, like GT5 does, are all on PC and "moddeable" games like GTA IV (which i have), Skyrim (also on consoles but once you finish you can´t enjoy it the same way, put some FREE mods on PC and then you´ll see), Crysis saga, STALKER, rFactor and all the other simulators that includes mods, and tons more.
But on consoles is hard to see a racing game that gives you that amount of content in one whole package. (well the "wanna be GT" Forza game of course)
I bought the Signature Edition for 179 and i´m glad i did. I have a book that i had to finish yet because i started it while ago and almost forogot about it. lol
A USB key that i use to save my games. That collectible car and the ones in the game. Oh and the album with photos of GT5. OH and the keyring with GT logo.
I don´t know but i paid for all that because to me it was cool.
The game alone costs the same as the rest so it has more value for such amount of content that you have inside.
And DLC is nice to have less because it costs money but you choose if you want it or not. I have every DLC till now.
For example my G27 (i bought it at release) costed me 350. But i bought quality and a great wheel to play racing simulators. Now costs less but do i care? No because i am enjoying it since August or October 2009.
Prices are there, quality depends on the product and then depends in if you want it or not for the price. It is all about each person.
I decided to upgrade my Logitech Driving Force Pro that i used for GT4 and i did it. And probablt i´m going to do the same with my G27. And i know that it is going to cost money.

I only paid $60 for my day-one release copy of GT5, but even if I had paid more it would have been worth it considering the hundreds of hours I spent with it. People spend sixty quid on a shooter that lasts five or six hours, and then maybe spend some time in multiplayer, so if that is worth it then hundreds of hours with GT5 is stealing the game at $60 or even double that. Yes, the game isn't perfect, and nobody is more vocal about that than me, but it was still well worth the admission price.

Updates are nice, but the original game was so broken and unfinished it could have meant the end of the franchise if left untreated.
On the other hand, GT5 is one of the few games I played more or less constantly for this long. So in my opinion it's got much value for the price I paid so far.

Why do I even bother sharing my thoughts if I'm going to have to deal with mindless vulgarism?
I didn't spent my time playing Gran Turismo since 1998 until today for me to deal with this now.
I never complaint. I bought everything related to GT5 so far. And yet, I don't have a job to pay for it, my wife almost kills me every time a new DLC comes out.
I'm paying all this money for it, and I feel that I'm not getting much out of my favourite game.
But you know what...I'm done talking to a brick wall. I'm just going to keep on doing what I have been doing since November 2010.

In essence I'm just completely surprised someone does even come up with such a thread.
I mean, what do you expect from a game? There are games that give you far far less for the money. 60 bucks for a 10 hour playthrough and thats it. Here you have entainment for such a long time, break it down on price per hour and the game is an absolute bargain! GT5 propably is the game that gives you the single most bang for the buck anywhere arround in console land.
And for the 180 you paid for the signature, well that is money you spend on the extras. the game is still the game and worth 60 bucks. So you cant really take those 120 extra into account for the actual game.

And £40 when it cost £80million to actually make. Probably more with dlc and updates. When you look at it from this perspective its a bargain considering games like cooking mama are priced higher than gt in my local shop.

Nope racing game are actually the one that have the best time/money ratio I think. It's a matter of taste tho because a COD if you like to frag people is on the same level but I dont like that kind of game, I love racing. Any sports game can give you plenty of hours also, I've played a lot of NHL 2010 but that's with a friends usually (did 3 full season already) and I also play NBA 2k12 which is amazing and very long also with the online mode. Compares those kind of game with for example Dragon Age 2 and you feel you got robbed when you buy that game, at least I was.

Is GT5 too expensive? No. Am I getting my money's worth? No, not anymore at least.
The thing that I was looking forward to most in GT5 was the career mode, but that didn't come out very well. This really reduced the game's life for me. I still played the game extensively for the first couple months, but that wore off. I then did everything I could to keep the game fun. I collected almost every car, joined a league, tried playing online, made some tracks and took some photos. But in the end, I feel all of these were just vain attempts to keep interest in a game I was subconsciously done with. Honestly, if I could have saw into the future back in November 2010 and knew I would eventually lose this much interest in GT5, I would have thought twice about buying it. I also don't see myself revisiting this game years down the road.
I play Forza 4 now and since it does things I wanted out of GT5 better, (carrer, car selection, online, customization, DLC, etc.) I'm confident it will outlive GT5 for me tenfold.

I see the point that you are trying to make. In all honesty that fact that you are in a GT forum after 2years shows your still interested. That being said if we use your numbers lets say 300/2yrs. = .41 a day that's not bad in my book and I didn't pay 300.00 for my copy. :-)

A game is only expensive if you dont play it to the fullest. I buy games I like and borrow from others if im new to a series.
