I am very serious about getting Shift 2 tomorrow. Is this worth buying? and will I like it if im into serious racing sims like GT5? Cause I watched videos on youtube and it looks like the back end is always tail happy always sliding around (from cockpit view). However the car list and track list is amazing. Should the bad driving physics scare me off?

^ all this in the same sentence doesn't make sense to me :D

Anyway, pick a friend who has the game, try it. There are mixed opinions and for some (like me) the game just works after a bit of playing with the wheel settings and car tuning.

Car tuning really is an important aspect in this game because it can totally transform your racing experience

BTW, regarding physics, the Ford Focus is SOOO familiar to me (after some tuning). If only I could turn on the radio and open the window this game would be PERFECT :D

The physics aren't bad. It comes down to the wheel/pad set up you use in the advanced options. I'll admit that the physics are quirky.

The game is fun. It's frustrating a lot of the times, but that's what makes it fun in my opinion. It's almost like it has a soul (read: almost) Now, if only they'll patch it for the freezing and the upper-level payouts, it'd be great.

You may want to rent before you buy im hating and loving the game at the same time

I prefer it too GT5. All these people you see complaining about the physics must not know how to tune a cars suspension, no offense to them.. at first the cars DO seem floaty and twitchy, but these people must not know all cars default damper settings are all set to 0. I changed mine to the same settings as the GT3/GT1 cars and imo the cars feel better then GT5. Plus its nice to have A.I that actually tries to race instead of the GT5 A.I just being there for a nice sunday drive...

Do people generally agree on this, who have actually done helpful tuning? Does it really make a difference in the driving?

It made a big difference for me, today some guy said it helped him alot too. Go buy a GT3 or.GT1 race car, write down all of its tuning settings, then apply those settings to the car you wanna drive. I used the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup R, and Audi R8 LMS settings.

Just make sure if your using a RWD car, you copy a RWD race cars settings, and if your using a AWD car, you use an AWD race cars settings.

Tuning sure made a huge difference for drifting.

I agree, I'm playing it on the PS3 with a G27 wheel and it's a blast. I don't care what anybody says...the best to put it for me is this : it's a raw racing experience.

You really feel like you are manhandling a beast around a track with AI cars that are racing hard with you.

Night racing is pretty sick too.

I traded in Shift 2 for another game on Monday. It was worth it. Shift 2 was bad.

Lol thats your loss buddy. Whats with all you 'hardcore sim' fans? GT5 takes 9 patches and STILL needs fixing, but Shift 2 has to be perfect on release or it is a bad game worth returning? Look at it like this, GT5s been out 6 months, has 9 patches, still needs more, Shift 2s been out a week, zero patches, and everyone is returning it? Make sense to you? Give the game a chance, GT5 was buggy as hell on release and still isnt perfect and its 9 patches in. Besides, did you even bother tuning your suspension and dampers? Read my above posts...

Hardcore sim drivers are l33t, man. They don't play games, because realistic driving is serious business.
