GTPlanet, it's been a while since I have posted a GT5 thread. Well now, here is a situation I want to discuss that may really change video game racing and probably shut up the GT haters.

I don't know if this has ever been attempted, but imagine a system in which you build up your driver physically and mentally. No, really. Imagine that the character you use in racing isn't exactly an indestructible racer. This is an idea inspired by the underrated (in terms of all the ones who voted HALO2 for so many awards in this year's G-Phoria) Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. In GTA:SA, C.J. can pump iron at the gym and eat whatever he wants to stay healthy or get fat. The effects of having a ripped body are substanial in terms of hand-to-hand combat. The stronger C.J. was, the quicker he can win fist-fights with abounding power. To carry certain elements into GT5 and offer a sense of a customizable character, imagine building your own driver. Not only that, but imagine being able to improve his/her physical and mental well being. Drivers with better physical characteristics are able to better control cars and not take so much pain from crashes. Drivers with better mental characteristics are better able to think fast and make smart decisions on track. If there was an option to make the guy or girl you control actually come alive, it would really feel like you have a driver you can actually control. This upgradable racer idea really helps you appreciate that not everyone can race a race car, even if completely out of shape.

Would an idea like this work? What would you do to make it a great idea? Please reply. I'll stand back and read.

I think that would be a good idea, but when I play gt4 (or gt5) I don't want to go train him at the gym, make him eat, I just want to race, so I don't think this would work. And I want the total control of the car, so if I crashed because my driver was not fast enough to react because he wasn't mentally prepared , that would suck. They shouldn't put too much RPG elements in a racing game IMO...

I think this could work. A person who stronger always will be able to handle a car better than someone who is weak. The mental part could come into play in endurances races with your driver becoming less consistent over the course of the race.

I thin it could work for training the b-spec drivier but not myself. I want to be able to have full control over the car myself, if I crash I want it to be my fault, not because the car didn't corner right because I hadn't been to the gym enough. But for expanding the idea of B-Spec into a more believeableone, you could have him as the teams second driver and part of his training is physical and mental training as well as learining how to actoually race.

This sounds kind of like the coffee idea. "Hmm... Gatoraid? Coffee? Gatoraid... coffee..."

I agree with L4S, this is more applicable to B-Spec Bob. But really, all drivers are in reasonable shape, so I'm not real keen on this idea. Almost all improvement in your skill and endurance as a racer comes from racing. So there's your workout routine! 👍

what a bunch of speel, if you wanna keep your brain in check max out a zonda with over 1000bhp with traction control off a choose a circuit with lots of bends u dig? :sly:
