Jacnob's MR2: Quest for a New Water Pump

While doing research for parts I'd like to have but don't actually need I found a few things like this to refresh the engine systems and make the car look just that little bit better.

Another Turbo SW20 owner!

I just kinda skimmed through, but was the hose that broke the HFH? This is the coolant hose between the turbo and the block, PITA to get to hence its name.

I actually have the Stoney Racing ancillary hose kit on mine (in black). I didn't install all of it and there weren't instructions so I only replaced what I could reach or at least knew what it was for. I still need their other kit for the radiator.

My dad said that it wasn't the HFH, thank god.

I keep a HFH and HFHOE on hand. Just in case.

Funny, my dad broke a coolant hose while he was driving mine too. It was some tiny hose off the block, it was over a year ago, I don't remember the exact one. This is what actually prompted me buy the Stony Racing silicone hoses.

So any plans? You know, GTX3071R, 750CC injectors, Megasquirt PNP ;)

Or the HFHOE.

I assume it was one of these larger pipes in the engine bay?

Or was it one at the front?

It looks like hose no 7, the one at the front. Does that go behind the airbox?

Nothing concrete yet, although I do want to go for the CT27 kit (stage 2)(http://atsracing.com/Parts/Index/CT27KIT), and the Big Brake kit (stage 1) from TwosRUs.

Truthfully though, I don't even need the CT27 any time soon; I'm pleased with the car's performance right now.

Although all of that will have to wait after yesterday; my mother was in a car accident, and my dad took my car to get to her. He patched up the hose, and that one held, but another one broke on the way to where she was. The car began to run really hot, and he ended up walking to the hospital where she was :ill: He got the car to a friend's house though. So yeah, it'll be a while before anything other than replacing alot/most of the hoses will be done.

EDIT: Dad just texted me; its the water pump.

I hope your Mum is OK.

Time to do cam belt and oil seals while you are down there attacking the water pump. Get a Toyota pump, don't cheap out and get a third party one as they never last long and start to leak. The Toyota pump comes as a whole housing sealed together. Not just the front plate with the impeller wheel on it.
Link is an example of the water pump. If you put in your chassis number into the search bar it will show you what part numbers your car actually needs.

My mother is fine; she dislocated her shoulder and broke a rib but otherwise okay.

I greatly appreciate all the advice you've given me GD 👍

Good to hear your mother is okay!

The Toyota OEM pump is actually an Aisin pump. Can be had off RockAuto for cheap.

It's also easier to pull the engine to do the timing belt. And if you do that might as well do the HFH, HFHOE, and clutch (use a Toyota OEM throwout bearing, $30) along with the oil seals GDII mentioned, mainly the Oil Co
oler o-rings and gaskets.

And if you wanted to take it a bit further you can get a 5SFE oilpump, something like it flows better than the 3S pump.

Even though the AISIN pump is what Toyota supply it's only the impeller and front cover. Toyota supply the whole housing with the front cover properly sealed to it reducing the risk of leaks significantly.

The oil seals I would do at this point would be the oil pump seals and main crank seal. Oil cooler would be sensible too.
