Finally found THE best flat panel HDTV for gaming and movies. Updated 1/23/12.

5. Sony BRAVIA KDL-40EX720 40" 3D LED-LCD TV 120hz 240 motionflow 3d $1,000. - Went to ABC Warehouse with my 360 to check out this TV on Friday and checked out several others. This is by far THE best looking tv out of LCD, LED, or Plasmas. 1/23/12

4. Samsung UN32d6000SF LED 1080P 120hz 240 Clear Motion Rate $779.00- Refresh rate is very good. Hardly any blurring motion when moving or turning in a game. But thats all this TV has going for it. 1/19/12

3. SONY BRAVIA KDL-32EX523 1080p 60hz $669.00 LED is way better than LCD by a longshot. Its only 60 hz but so far I am loving this tv. I ordered the Samsung and plan to compare it to the Sony. If it doesnt beat the Sony, then the Sony is my new LED HDTV. 1/16/12

2. LG 32LK450 LCD 1080p 60hz both component and hdmi (turned down sharpness and made some adjustments. TV is much better but color is still a bit bland. still has jaggies and still motion blur ) 1/3/12

1. Toshiba 32DT2U LCD 720p 60hz component, 1080p hdmi ----- Christmas gift (jagged lines, motion blur, poor draw distance, and pic not as clear) 12/27/11

My old tv was a Sony Trinitron Wega 27" HDTV and the picture quality was a lot better than most of the new tvs but it wasnt wide screen.

My observations and tests
1. Movies look flawless and just incredible especially in blu-ray
2. Games dont look as good
3. Tried 1080i/1080p component cables on 360
4. Tried 1080p HDMI on PS3
5. Items up close look good but items in the distance have the jagged line problems (draw distance anti-aliasing).
6. HDMI and COmponent look almost identical
7. LED looks a lot better than LCD
8. 240hz/120hz handles motion blur a lot better than 60hz. Very noticable difference.

To be honest, i dont have a top of the line HDTV but i dont have jaggies or blurry anything. Its an Insignia, i got it for about 440 with tax(was originally like 500+ i think?) Its 37", 1080p, and 60hz just like the tv you posted. Its not no samsung, but its running perfectly for me.

Actually i'm pretty sure Insignia is made by Samsung.

@Camaro I had a 42" plasma LG that died after 5 years. Just fyi. 👍

Is it? I really dont know. I ended up getting it because for the same price i got 5 more inches with all the same stats as the lg's and samsungs and whatnots i was looking at.

Is the difference between 720p and 1080p noticeable at that size? I thought at 42 it actually made a difference.

In any case I have a Samsung 32" 720p I bought a few years ago. Awesome picture. Pick up a Samsung if you can find one.

Yeah after some research I am leaning toward LCD. Looks like it will either be the Samsung or the LG that I listed in the first post.

I bought a Samsung 19" monitor about 4-5 years ago that heather has been playing her 360 on and that thing is awesome. Would be pretty cool having 2 samsungs side by side. But we will see what Best Buy has in stock. Otherwise I might have to buy it from newegg or somewhere else online.

You should have went before christmas! They were having lots of sales on tv's. Thats where i bought mine with a good chunk taken off the price. Maybe they might still have some sales.

I've got an 50" LG plasma 1080p which is just perfect for gaming! I'm not sure if it'll last any longer than 5 years, but knowing myself I'll have something bigger and better by then any ways :D

I have been looking for a definitive answer but the most a can find is that the Insignia is most likely made with Samsung parts.

"The larger TV's are made using a lot of Samsung parts. Even the stickers with the models numbers on them match Samsung."

@Camaro. I would recommend Vizio. That's what I replaced my LG with and it's an awesome TV. 47" LCD 100,000:1 and 120Hz 1080P and only paid $750 about 8 months ago. They should have a 32" with about the same numbers for well within the price your looking for.

I was originally thinking of Vizio but it was rated 5th place out of the 32" tvs.
I guess in picture quality it would be in 3rd place.

Don't get too sucked in by brand names, because in a lot of cases you're paying a significant chunk extra for nothing more than a logo. I have an I-INC monitor that I got for a pittance that has outlasted a Samsung I had, and there's really no splitting them on picture quality.

Right now I've got a Vizio 32inch LCD 1080p tv, specifically the VOJ320F, that I use for gaming and as a primary pc monitor, and it's great. I forget exactly how much it was back in June but I didn't pay more than $400 Canadian. I would highly recommend it.

Just my 2 cents, but I wouldn't recommend ordering something like a tv online, when I ordered my Vizio the first one I got had to be sent back, somewhere along the chain someone must have dragged it behind a truck. You're better to be able to actually see the product you're buying before you leave the store, and have a physical location to go to if there's any problems. Bestbuy/Futureshop are a bit more expensive than some places, but their return policy is so good (at least here), you can bring the tv home and try it out, and if you don't like it take it back and swap it for a different one.

^ Do they really do that over in America? :P

We've got three LGs at the moment, two 47" LCD Full HD tellies and my 23" LED LCD computer monitor, and all of them work faultlessly with pretty good picture quality. Though from what I've seen Sony Bravias on reflection tend to have the best picture quality. Down here though they also tend to command a very significant premium over LGs, Panasonics and Samsungs.

You have a great idea. I should just bring my 360 there for the test.

Last night I bought the LG 32LK450. 1080p 60hz and I am not happy with it either. I wanted the Samsung but it wasnt in stock. So the pursuit to find a better 32" widescreen LCD continues. The colors were just not right on the LG and I am STILL having issues with jagged lines just like the Toshiba had. The picture quality has been very clear on these last 2 LCD tvs but the jagged anti-aliasing problem is driving me borderline insane. I want THE best picture quality FOR GAMING AND not have the dang jagged lines!! I am beginning to think that I am going to have those stupide jagged lines with any LCD tv I purchase.

I wonder if the 120hz would make a difference compared to the 60hz? Some say yes some say no. If I have to pay more thats fine. I am almost at the point where I am just going to keep my 27" HD CRT Sony Trinitron Wega because the picture is already so dang good on that 6 year old tv. But I really want a wide screen. The stupid part about buying the tv from Best Buy is that most of them are only displayed in 720p so I cant truly see the quality until I bring it home. The movie quality is outstanding on these flat screens but the gaming quality drops right off.

Anyway here are some pics of what I have been dealing with in terms of jaggies. You can see it big time in the Crysis pic. ALso look at the edge of the "netflix" and you will see jaggies.

I am not as concerned with the color as I am the jagged lines. Well yes the color needs to be improved too but the anti-aliasing issue is the main problem. If you look at the Crysis pic you can see how bad it is. The wing on the Celica also shows the jaggies quite well. Even the Netflix angled pic on the dashboard has the jaggies.

I updated the first post with the test results between the 360 and PS3, both in 1080p. The 360 is using component cables, the PS3 is using HDMI cables. From what I have been hearing these jagged lines are normal.

Somethign else I realized is that my older HDTV has a shiny non glare reduction screen. The LCD HDTVs that I have tested both have the anti glare screen. Maybe I should try one with the shiny screen and see how that works.

Is the difference between 720p and 1080p noticeable at that size? I thought at 42 it actually made a difference.

In any case I have a Samsung 32" 720p I bought a few years ago. Awesome picture. Pick up a Samsung if you can find one.

I was actually told that by a few people, and when I went TV hunting, I actually found a very friendly and knowledgeable guy at Best Buy who agreed. At 32", 720p and 1080p are hardly noticeable, especially if you're comparing at roughly the same price point. I was looking at two 32" 720p LCD's (Samsung and Sharp), and also a 32" Philips 1080p LED, and in all honesty, the latter looked the worst in store. It was $50 more Sharp, and $30 more than the Samsung, but those numbers are just bragging points, it seems.

If you're going over 40", 1080p (and a higher Hz) would be a good idea. LED, too. But I got the Sharp for $300 on Boxing Day, it has far more features than the Samsung (and importantly, ports), and the picture is more than acceptable. Thank you Boxing Day Week sales.

Me and my girlfriend have just bought a 40" Samsung LED 1080p TV for our new house and the picture on it is stunning. Really deep blacks, bright whites and decent colour reproduction. It's also really smooth, much smoother than my old 32" Philips LCD. It's also stupidly thin which is good for showing off :P

I've been using this bad boy since late '06.

B000F9WFH2.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg

My only two complaints are it suffers from about 5, maybe 10% overscan, and it supports 1080i. I'd rather it'd just be 720p.

As suggested I decided to mess with the sharpness.

This LG sharpness default was set to 70. So last night while playing Crysis 1(Crysis 1 is full of jaggies big time) I decided to take the advice and lower the sharpness. I lowered it from 70 to 60 and started to notice a difference. It also looked a lot better in Forza 4 and in BF3. It started to reduce the jaggies, BUT also lowers the overall picture sharpness for gaming. If I adjust it any lower than 55-60 then it just makes everything blurry. So the good news is that lowering the sharpness did help lower the jaggies a little, the bad part is that it also lowers the quality of everything.

But the cool thing about this tv is that I can have different settings for each imput on the TV. So I could have the sharpness lower on the 360, higher on the PS3 since it doesnt have as many jaggies, and lower on TV channels. Not sure if all HDTVs allow this for each imput. Still struggling with the color on this TV. SHouldnt be this much of a pain to dial in but it is. And it seems that the outer edges of the tv are darker than the rest of the tv.

No matter what TV you get, you're always going to get visible jagged edges on games. It's just how they're made. Consoles don't have the power to do brilliant anti-aliasing all the time. There's a reason it requires a fair bit more power on a PC to do full AA!

The best thing to do is make sure it's calibrated properly (Do a search for the best settings online) and play games using that setting. That should give you the best possible experience.

Also when you use a TV make sure that any digital processing is switched off! things like DNR etc.. these can cause an over sharpening which can present like jaggies!! or a blurring if you go the other way!.

I myself use a Philips Ambilight 32 inch. If you are sitting far from the tv you can't really notice the jaggies but when you get closer you can definatly see the jaggies all over the screen. I am also trying to fix that problem.
