Justin Wilson joins Jaguar Racing
For remainder of 2003 Season [21/07/03 - 15:17]

New challenge for Wilson

To the great regret of Jaguar Racing, Antonio Pizzonia has not been able to realise his potential with the team over the past eleven races.

Jaguar Racing therefore has decided that it is neither in his best interests, nor in the team’s, for Antonio to continue to driving as full time race driver at this time. In an effort to continue supporting Antonio’s development, however, Jaguar Racing has offered him the opportunity to remain with the team as reserve and test driver.

Agreement has been reached with Minardi F1 to allow Justin Wilson to complete the 2003 season with Jaguar Racing. This is an agreement for the remainder of the 2003 season only, with options for future years that provide Jaguar Racing with additional choices for 2004.

David Pitchforth, Managing Director, Jaguar Racing said : “We are delighted to have Justin join us for the remainder of the 2003 season in what is a richly deserved opportunity. In the Jaguar R4, we clearly have a competitive car and one that has helped Mark Webber secure twelve points thereby taking the team to 6th place in the Constructor’s Championship. With five races left on the calendar, it is critical that we are maximising our potential with two race cars.”

Hmm.. well then it makes sense, i heard som blabbering in the background (sports-tv) that som e danish guy was on his way to minardi..

You mean Pizzonia?
It was quite obvious from some time ago that Pizzonia was on his way out, but I thought that his seat would be safe for the rest of the season. Plus won't Jaguar need to make a specialy sized cockpit for Wilson as he's soo tall. Hopefully Wilson will actually give Webber a run for his money then I think Jaguar will be a team to contend with, easily possibly beating all of the midfeild teams and be on the arse of the larger teams in the near future:mischievous: ...maybe.
Though I thought it was a bit harsh to Pizzonia considering he actually drove a great race, up unto he retired. In one case he managed to pass both Webber and Villenueve on the same lap  , before he had to pit in for a new steering wheel. I tink he was an alright driver and just finding his way in the team and if they're after instant results I don't think that Wilson is the cure. I'm sure Wilson will fly after finding his feat in the team though.

Oh ok...but I thought that Pizzonia gave him a good run for his money at the British GP when he was running. Although all teh other races he was miles off the pace.

i believe wilson is 6'3". maybe 6'4". If I am correct about another thing, webber is the second tallest f1 driver, at 6'2". Not sure if fitment for wilson will be a problem.

But in Pizzonia's defense, he has had quite a few annoying incidents this year, ie launch control mishaps (which were admittedly his fault) and a blown engine or two, as in last race.

But what are you going to do if you blow an engine? I mean, are the team going to hold YOU responsible?"Is not my fault. You is fixing car, you is developing, you is engineering, you is repairing. You no blame me. Is YOUR fault."

Whatta you gonna do?

Correct. Having been within about two feet of both drivers at the weekend, I can vouch for the fact that they're simliar in height.

And Justin Wilson's not so tall when he's talking to Matt Neal...

Good for Wilson he beat Webber in F3000 a few years back so this should be an interesting partnership.
Bad for Pizza man though after cleaning up in British F3 I thought he had the right stuff but since he made F3000 he's been err cr£p could he be the millenial Jan Magnassun?

Go slightly off topic how was thee GP Giles?
Where'd you view from?
Got any pictures?

I see Pizzonia told Jaguar to jam their test/reserve driver role. Apparently his sacking came as a complete surprise!

yeah its gonna be nice to see Wilson team up with Webber considering Wilson beat Webber in F3000. Its also a nice oppurtunity for Wilson to make money to repay those ppl who bought shares of HIM so that he could race hehe.

Re topic: does not come as a complete suprise really, shame considering that Sir Frank had huge raps on him
He just hasnt been able to cut it, especially with a teammate like Mark
Lets hope Wilson will do (and I'm sure he will) a better job than Antonio

It was great, thanks. I was in the BRDC grandstand, which is by Brooklands in the Complex (where Barrichello threw it off in Friday qualifying).

Digital camera has been "retired", so no pics yet. Films are currently in processing. I'll post pictures when they're scanned.

👍
Good to hear there was one satified customer.
Did you see much?
My dad won't take me to a GP on the fact that he thinks you pay tones of money just to see a quick flash of a car.
Shame you haven't got any pictures yet, it'd be nice to see some pictures of a GP through a spectators point of view.

Yeah, we saw quite a bit, but not much in the way of overtaking.

It's been said before, but you don't go to an F1 race to see the cars, you go to hear them. Once you've heard an F1 car at full chat, there's nothing that's loud any more.

The other thing is to buy your tickets early, because then you get the pick of the stands. There are some pictures from previous years in the events section of my web site.

Looked at the photos on the web site - very nice.
Although you could do with a few more ;)
You use digital or film?
Quite good reports of the races. Looks like you've got the best view of the track, where you can see the most.
I've heard an F1 engine at fuill chat go up Goodwood Festival of Speed, but I guess that doesn't really count.
Guess though I'd better be getting my ticket then for next year - that is if the British GP still exists at this rate it looks like nothing is going to save it.

Thanks!

I mainly use film. I've got a Canon EOS50e with a couple of half-decent lenses. I've also got a digital camera, but it's just a rubbish one that I got pretty-well free. I'm about to buy an Olympus Camedia C750-UZ though, having met someone in the BRDC who had one, and having interrogated him about it. He was only too keen to talk about it, and I had a bit of a play, which was REALLY useful.

I want to go to Goodwood at some point, it looks really good.

Don't believe all you hear about Silverstone. There's a lot of sabre-rattling and political positioning going on at the moment.

Yeah.
My dad's a proffesional photographer, and through his buisiness if he gets equipment I think to the value of the tax they have to pay, then they don't have to pay for the tax just the equipment. So basically he managed to get some £2000 camera which he mainly uses for motor racing pictures. We've got tonnes of tehm around the house.
I've got a real nice pic of a Lancia C1 prototype rounding druids as Brands Hatch from 1985 he took. Real nice picture.
Goodwood's amasing. Not as good as what it used to be but still fantastic. The best has to be the one hour TT race. They really thrash the things as well. I'm quite lucky it's only an hour and a half away, or if we go down in the Cobra we usually do if it's not raining then about an hour.
My dad has quite a few pic's of it actually (goodwood) I'll try and post them.
To be quite honest I don't know what to believe in F1 any more, there seems to be so many rumors and lies floating around.
