Hey all, there's been something that I've known for a while happens with the Jaguar S-Type R but haven't really brought attention to. It's not particularly important or gamebreaking, nor is it an apparent glitch by any means, I just find it interesting and wonder if anyone has an explanation, or if anyone knows if it applies to other cars?

My observation pertains to the S-Type's transmission. It only applies to the stock trans., but I have noticed ever since its adoption in GT4 that the S-Type shifts very... smoothly, for lack of a better word.
As compared to most of the other cars I've seen in all of Gran Turismo, (which shift very quickly by letting go of the gas, applying the clutch, changing gear, releasing the clutch, and applying the throttle again, as is common) the S-Type seems to shift instantaneously, without applying the clutch at all and leading the revs to change very gradually, as apposed to abruptly.

Has anyone got an idea of why this is, or what other cars it applies to? I know the CZ-3 Tarmac and Nissan GTR LM Concept Car did in GT4, although I have yet to find if they still have weird transmissions in GT5...

Theres also a Mercedes that does that, its the way it shift in real life as well, i was surprised to see they implemented it in the game. :)

Its just the way these car shift.

I seem to have noticed that the Lexus IS-F also has the automatic transmission with the shifting you have described.

Used this for the first time tonight in a shuffle race, thought it felt weird.

Wasn't sure why but I guess this must have been it, it sounded strange aswell, is that normal or was it the sound glitch?

A car with a slushbox should sound like that. That vacuum-ish rumble as the engine changes gears is the sound of the torque converter.

As to why PD modeled maybe 15 cars correctly out of what is probably a couple hundred in the game with an automatic... who knows.
