While Jaguar has launched its new Jaguar XK Coupe at last year’s Frankfurt Motor Show, here is more to come.

These are first photos of the sports version XKR of this model range, showing a prototype as convertible in current cold weather testing. The car can be recognized by an altered front end with big air intakes, air intakes in the hood and four big exhaust pipes at the rear end. It is furthermore featuring extended wheel arches and a boot spoiler. Quite visible is also the big power bulge on the hood.

This car is set to become a competitor against the BMW M6 and Mercedes SL 55 AMG and is powered by a supercharged 4,2 ltre V8 engine delivering 400 HP.

The new XKR has an aluminium chassis and is about 90 kilos lighter than the current model. Both, the coupe and convertible are expected to debut at the Paris Motor Show this fall and to be in the showrooms in 2007

Well if that is what a buick looks like then you are very lucky. I've already seen reviews of this car and I can only say that it looks fantastic! I quote top gear when I say that since the 50's the jag after the aston is the better car, and if this is better than the AMV8 vantage then is going to be a phenomenon.

I submit to you, the 2002 Buick LeSabre

My only gripe is the headlights, they've never looked right to me. The rest of the car though, is pretty nice.

Mmmmm, Jaguar...

Can they and their sister company, Aston Martin, do ANYTHING wrong?

Its going to get interesting between the XKR, XLR-V, SL55(63), 650ci, and Porsche 911 Carrera (NOT S) pretty quickly...

I like it other than the Tarus front. Sorry, I can't spell Tarus it's a Ford and I don't like Fords.

Taurus, and you might as well sell that Mazda3 you have because for all intents and purposes it's a Ford. You don't like Ford ... then you don't like the companies it's owns like Mazda, Volvo, Aston Martin, Jaguar, and etc. Oh, and my '05 Focus is basically a Mazda3 hatch and I think it's brilliant. 👍

ooohh, nice Jag! I can´t agree to to it´s Buick looks though. I can´t seem to find much similarity at all.
Does this Jag share the chassis with the AMV8 or DB9, like it´s predecessor shared chassis with AMDB7?

The DB7 shared its chassis with the old XJS - i think the older XK Coupe had a completely different chassis - i don't know whether this one shares with the Astons, but i should think it probably does to some extent. Ford loves it's platform sharing.

You guys know the XK8 is in the making aswell.
The XK8's are on sale soon. Jaguar are letting people pre-book for test drives.

The first picture is great just not so much liking the blue champagne color or the cheezy intakes and side vents.

Blue champagne! - what planet are you from?

Fine pearlescent if you want. It looks really weird looking. Like the look of a champagne coloured car. You know like the Escalade came in that color, refer to that.

I'll be honest. I think Jaguars are some of the most beautiful cars, especially recent ones. I'm not too turned on by the looks up front. I still seem to prefer the Jaguar XKR of old compared to when this lightweight concept came around. I like most Jaguars in British Racing Green, that deep blue color, or that deep purple color. And trust me. Spy tape makes ANY automobile ugly.

Hate to nitpick, but for the record, Ford is merely the majority stakeholder in Mazda (40% IIRC), and the Mazda 3 is based on the 2nd gen Focus that is sold pretty much everywhere but North America. :grumpy: 👎
As for the original topic, the new XK is very cool, but the R version might be a bit of a letdown for me if A) it has all those flares, scoops and winglets shown in the photochop and B) it has "only" 400 hp from the supercharged V8.

That's looking good 👍

Head lights look alittle Hyundai Coupe and the fog lights look very recessed, almost like they're trying to kill aerodynamics.

I see dead people... and red X's. Poverty, you should fix that.

Edit - I see the light!!! Er... the Car!
Looks pretty good, but I'm not too fond of the headlights. A masterpeice, otherwise. If they just rounded off that headlight corner....

I got bored and ran a registration plate check on this car.

One has it listed as an unnamed black saloon, no manufacturer, registered on 10th December 2004. The other has it listed as a black Jaguar, registered on 10th December 2004 with a 3.5 litre petrol engine.

Carry on.

Famine, i think the link to your new avatar is broken - all i get is a red box with a white cross in it :sly:

How do you do that?

Im just a middle man forwarding information which could be more than likely false as Im more of a German car specialist.

ha beat me to it. I was going to say that isn't the new XKR by a long shot. and i'm pretty sure that last pic isn't of the new xkr either.
jaguar are denying that they're creating a new xkr, but rumours from inside say that they are, and they're aiming it to reach and go past the 200 mph mark.
i think ive seen them testing it as well. I live oo about.....2 mins away from jaguar and see the new XKR every day, and recently there's been a few masked up xkr's running about, and not the convertibles either. they look wider bodied but I can't really tell anymore differances than that as they're masked up.
btw i'd also like to add i had a new xk go by me at full chat the other day and it sounded like sexy lightning!

Actually, the designer of the DB9 is the designer of the XK series.

I've been away for a bit so sorry for delay in the response, how you can say that the squat nose of the the 2002 Buick LeSabre is comparable to that of the jag is beyond me! I can see if i squint the hyuandi coupe in it, but for example the aggressive power buldges over the rear wheel, it looks like as Cartman might say, i will kick you in the nuts!

went to a seminar the other day presented by the chief engineer of the new XK, on the XK. very interesting but after seeing it I wouldn't buy one now. It's too fake. A very very nice car but everything is faked. For example they say the car is supposed to 'flatter' the driver and empower him/her but its got a mode that when you push it the cars designed to step out of line (oversteer) by 8degrees and control it at that angle so you look like a driving god. I'd much prefer to be able to do that without the aid of a computer ta. Also the engine sound is phenominal from it but again compleltly fake and they designed the engine note as well.
But back to the main issue I asked the engineer about the XKR. They planned to do one from the start and the XK is actually based on the XKR platform. They basically designed the XKR first. They made the XK have what I thought is a lumbering 0-60 time of 5.9secs so the XKR could look a lot more appealing. It should be released (he said) in 6 months time. It's going to be supercharged (like the previous XKR) and be more based on the styling of the lightweight aluminium coupe concept. But they've pretty much got it ready already, just making some last minute adjustments.
The new XK is stunning imo and I can't wait for the XKR. The XK's the GT and the XKR will be aimed to be a thoroughbred sports car.Good return to form for Jaguar I say.

Sad thing about the XK8 being so artificial, it's really a beautiful car, but as long as the XKR doesn't look like that first pic (which I'm sure it won't) it will probably look even better. They just need to make the same changes to the XK as they did last time to make the XKR.
