Street version of Jaguar D-Type racer. Incredibly gorgeous car. Looks even better than an XKE.

There should have been 25 of these classic cars, but 9 were destroyed by a fire at Jaguar's plant. In 1955 Jaguar withdrew from racing and converted 25 remaining D Type chassis into road going cars which they called the XKSS (XK Super Sport). Sadly a fire broke out before the cars were shipped to the US so only 16 survived.

There was an episode of Chasing Classic Cars which featured a reunion of these cars at Laguna Seca.

Together with the racing D Type, the XKSS would make a great addition to the Gran Turismo series.

Yes - I agree - the front was based on the earlier short nosed D Type. The long nosed D Type was much more attractive from the front.
