January's Forza 7 Bounty Hunter Target is Turn 10's John Schommer

I tried the event... I don't get it. Is it supposed to be a track day or something?

That it is. Set your fastest lap time.

It seems like drafting has been turned off, judging by my quick two lap trial to get the lead image. That makes getting a clean lap a lot easier, since you won't accidentally get a dirtied lap by having a faster car show up behind you.

Stupid question:

So, once the Bounty Hunter challenges are over, there is no other way of getting the prize cars? Not even the Auction House?

No, but I think it's only temporary, sooner or later they will be available.
Maybe through Forzathon or Leagues.

The best deal is to (try) win them now.

This is my favourite format for the bounty hunter events. Throw some skill in with a heaping helping of luck and hope for the best.

I probably put in hundreds of laps on this event alone in Forza 4 (not my video):

I miss this track and all the other fantasy ones we've not seen since FM4.

I so much agree with this.

I put in a 2:28.223 today. I might be able to shave another second off, but I'm pretty much at the limit of my skills. Seeing as Johniwanna's current best time is 2:25.142, I don't see me getting the Civic FE. I'm okay with that. I'd rather have the 1977 Ford Escort Mk II and the Happy New Year's suit participation prizes anyway.

The announcement of these events is so poor, I bet 90% of the players who bought the game don't even know these are happening. I fail to see why they can't just add a separate section on the menu for this with a highlight when something new is up (like the car dealer) or at the very least use the in-game message system to broadcast these things.

Is there an overview of all bounty hunter or other giveaway cars so far? Just wondering what I've all been missing.

I need a little more practice. I got a 2:31, maybe when I turn off TCS then I should get an improvement. I just pull over to let the other cars pass so I have the whole track to myself.

I put in a 2:27.4xx dirty lap as my best time so far. A Subaru and I had a disagreement on who deserved ownership of one turn. :D

I'm going to have to put in a clean lap and try to improve. I'm sure I am under-driving the car, maybe braking too early but I don't think I have 2+ seconds to find in my lap. One of the aliens on my friend list is already down to 2:23.xxx.

In the end I'll probably only take home the participation prizes and that's fine. I have over 100 cars I've never even driven yet thanks to all the level up bonuses and specialty dealership cars I've bought.

Here are the bounty hunter events and the cars given so far.

Josef Newgarden
Participate: 2016 Chevrolet Camaro Super Sport
Beat: 1977 Holden Torana A9X Forza Edition

Dan Greenawalt
Participate: 2010 Audi TT RS
Sub-100 Second Lap: Ferrari 612 Scaglietti
Beat: W Motors Lykan

Phil Spencer
Participate: 2017 Porsche #92 Porsche GT Team 911 RSR

There was some driver gear included with these events but I didn't make note of it.

I'm not certain if there have been any other giveaways besides a few Forza Edition cars as an apology gift to VIP owners.

If only the AI knew how to pass with out rubbing all over my car... Sigh. I tried again, but didn't have the time to really get settled. I feel a 2:24.XXX is completely possible in the Fiesta ST. I'll give it anothe go tonight.

2.24 is pretty simple if you get a clean run. Work the lift off oversteer before corner entry so you can reduce how much you brake - it works pretty well in the little Fiesta. It also helps to give it a few laps so you don't get held up in the corners by the other cars.

After I beat my rival I got down to a 2:30 then I decided to just park my car on a tight corner to see what the A.I does all they do is just hit you and make a big pile up.

For now I am in the 2:25's. I believe I'm sitting at 2:25.829. I didn't try to use lift off oversteer, but I can see two turns where that would be useful.

This Fiesta is actually quite fun to drive. I don't like this track day kind of event though, the AI is just so incredibly 🤬 stupid in this game.

My best lap so far is 2:20.6XX, might try to get below 2:20.500 at some point... just need to be smoother with my driving.

Here's my lap (skip the first ~25 seconds)

So how does this work? Where can i find the event?

Single Player - Rivals - Featured Events - Bounty Hunter Challenge

Sweet Sutuki, Keep it up! It's encouraging to hear of lap times like that.

For anyone wondering how someone managed to pull off a 2:20.XXX in this event, and before the same person begins to assume that the player who set the lap isn't human. Read the following sentence carefully. No lap time exists in a vacuum. A player doesn't run a 2:25.944, and then out of the blue; runs a 2:19.979. And then returns to running 2:25's on a good day with a tail wind. Each faster lap is built upon the previous laps successes.

For example, when you figure out how to keep the car planted at turn 1. You apply what you learned in every following lap. Now you are figuring out where to position the car for turns 2-3... Rinse and repeat.

What you learn stays with you any time you run the track. So once you got that 2:19... You should be able to do it again. Or even have similar successes in faster and more capable vehicles. The one thing is to practice. You will be able to learn where you can save time, and be quicker. But most importantly, you'll be consistently setting low times.

I improved my lap to a 2:25.261. There are still a lot of ugly sections I can improve on, it's just stringing together everything consistently from lap to lap that I struggle with.

Just did my first 9 laps and best time was 2:24.759

Good thing is that I was improving my time how laps were passing.

Looks like John is another excellent driver and tough Bounty.

Talking about "aliens", I see that my FL is pretty full of them, nice!

John's a good Forza driver, doesn't have top level pace but can hold his own in a lobby.

He also streams every Tuesday on the Turn 10 Twitch channel, occasionally drifting too :)

I would say that John is right around my skill level. I'm not really the best driver but I can match almost every lap he posts move for move, and in this case, beating him.

Yes. You don't have to beat his time, you just have to put in one clean lap to get the Escort.
Every time I think I have a clean lap it always says it isn't. I don't go off track or hit any cars!

Keep an eye on the caution indicator in the top corner by your time, it flashes when an offense is made. At least then you'll know if it was a car contact issue or track limits issue. Some curbs or run off areas are pretty generous with letting you stay clean, others not so much. Also, if you make an error anywhere in the last sector of a lap your next lap will start dirty.

Hello to everyone from the Turn 1 runoff area after I messed up my braking. :D

Also, if you make an error anywhere in the last sector of a lap your next lap will start dirty.

There's one exception to this: Rewind. If you rewind anywhere in your last sector but are otherwise clean, the next lap won't be dirtied from the get-go.

In a challenge like this, that can be handy. I keep Rewind on in case of any silly AI moves, so if they ruin my first corner, I'll just rewind to behind the start/finish and try again. :D

But it's right when the race starts that it's invalid. I don't think it's supposed to do that.
