For future reference, here is the complete list of ponycars, in order of appearance.
Plymouth Barracuda
Ford Mustang
Chevrolet Camaro
Pontiac Firebird
AMC Javelin
Mercury Cougar
Dodge Challenger
The Gremlin has never been associated with this list in any way, shape, or form.
Well, the AMX-GT was, technically, a chopped-down Javelin... Nevermind that the production Gremlin was based on the Hornet instead!
Anyways, I know well that the Gremlin doesn't in any way qualify as such, but after anti-emission laws and rising gas prices gutted the power of American V8 engines, the pony cars which survived did so not thanks to their (often abysmal) performance, but because of their extremely charismatic presence: loud paintjobs and louder engines kept the Firebird afloat even when its engine was so underpowered it was demoted to being a Firechicken, so to speak. And you have to admit, the V8 Gremlin X may lack a tail, but it surely has the presence to stand right next to the Camaros and Firebirds of its time without looking completely out of place, which is an impressive result for a car which was originally intended to compete for market share with the Volkswagen Beetle.
Or, in other words, I didn't say it deserved a place amongst the greatest pony cars in history because it is one.
