And will be picking up a used PS2 this weekend. Can't wait to experience GT4 all over again using a DFGT. Anyone have any recommendations as to the best way for me to hook it up to my 42" HDTV?

Been so long since I last played it, it's going to be like playing a whole new game. This should pass the time till GT5 comes out pretty quickly. 👍

You will NEED a set of component cables so that you can enjoy the game in glorious 1080i, My HDTV introduced some lag between what I saw and what was really happening, it's worse on some than others.

It's not an issue anymore as I have a 60gb PS3 and play it through that.

I bet you can't wait for the weekend. Have you picked out what your first car will be?

I connect my ps2 with gt4 to my 1080p 50 inch plasma with componet cables but it will only go to 570i resolution,

not this fabled 1080i. its still fun, can the ps2 output at 1080i?

I always play with it set to 1080i on the NTSC version. I thought the PAL version had an HD option too, my memory is fuzzy though as I didn't have a HDTV when I lived in England.

PAL doesn't do 1080i.

It makes no sense why not though, is the PAL ps2 any different to the NTSC?

Or are PD just lazy bastards? Kidding! Don't kill me.

there was a lot of games on the ps2 that only played at 50hz, so they can play on our t.v.'s back in the day.

perhaps that was an issue

Plans for the weekend:

Used PS2 Slim: check

Component cable: check

Let's get it on! :D

Edit: after my copy of the game shows up... :P

I have been playing GT4 with a DFGT at a friend's and it was so so so fun. Much better than GT5P.

Of course, the graphics are crap compared to GT5P but the content made it better.

I am tempted to get a cheap used PS2 and gt4 just to play it. :dopey: But that would mean me losing countless nights and potentially screwing up my studies haha

Been playing it for all of maybe 30 minutes and I FELL IN LOVE ALL OVER AGAIN. :D

Graphics on 1080i are definitely clearer on my TV, but everything tends to be "edgy". Thinking maybe it's the size of my TV that could be doing that.

Back to getting all golds on licenses!

Probably an MX-5. :D

I chose a RX-7 FC3S. I based a whole story around it, and I think it helped get the RX-7 to the spot of my second favourite car of all time. I like to count the GT-R R35 as a Skyline.

Bought my used PS2 and GT4 on the cheap off ebay!:dopey:

Can't wait.... haha (I blame it all on the delayed and delayed again then delayed GT5)

Now my PS3 will go into cold storage lol.

Just hope GT4 wont be too jaggy on my HDTV:yuck:

Best way is to go over to online races. Still need drivers for the enduro round @ El Capitan in the V8 series.

I bought GT2 about a week ago for £4.

But I really want to play GT4, except I can't find my copy and I'd need to dig my PS2 out.

It is pretty jaggy, but you get used to it. Just make sure you go under the options menu and force it into 1080i. Anything less is really blurry and hard to play.

Haha, then I am screwed. I will be using the PAL version. No 1080i there..

Oh well... will see when the stuff comes in a day or two :)

Oh yeah, forgot you can't change it on the PAL version. I could just be used to the 1080i verson, so when it switches back it's pretty crazy on the eyes. :dopey:

I have seen the PAL version on a 42' 720p LCD tv.
and its not very nice... but after a while I am ok with it.

Mine is a 40' 1080p tv. :guilty: So, logic dictates that it will turn out worse.

Oh well...... game should be arriving tomorrow. Will check it out hehe

I have a question.. I cant recall from the last time i've played, but i cannot find a certain car. I'm looking for the Alfa Romeo 156, and it's not at the Alfa dealer, neither can i find one in the used car section.. Can someone help me, i know the car is ingame ( 2 versions i think ) but i cant find either one :nervous:

Just curious, how they managed to get this game, running on a PS2, to output at 1080i. Amazing.

Got the game.

Looks allright, acceptable on my 40' full HDTV.
Sitting around 1.5-2 metres away from it.

However, jaggies can be seen clearly but what the heck, it still beats any other racing game out there:dopey:

Yeah, I accidentally forgot to set it back to 1080i last night for a few races, so I ran in standard mode. Then I switched back to 1080i and was like:

Here's a small video I shot tonight with my new iPod nano. The sound is a bit quiet because I didn't have the TV turned up. Will remember to do that next time.

Good work R1600Turbo! I actually re-purchased a PS2 and GT4 a long while back, along with Tourist Trophy. However, the fact that I'd played through it all before took away some of the pleasure. Tourist Trophy was refreshingly different though, and I really hope we get a Tourist Trophy on PS3.

Needless to say I don't have that PS2 and games anymore - that got passed onto a younger cousin of mine. Now I wait patiently...

Thanks. I'm surprised at how well real life suspension settings have an effect on the cars in the game. I used the same spring rates as the suspension my work sells on that Miata, and used (more or less) the same alignment settings that we recommend, and the car handles great. 👍
