And it was pretty cool.. I especially liked the way the planes flew over you at the start. I didn't know PD cared about details like that from my experience. Anyway, whats the fastest Le Mans car? Im guessing the Sauber Merc or 787B Mazda? Also another fast Toyota I've seen with 2 huge turbos hangin out the back? Maybe that one?

Oh and a cool thing I figured out, not sure if it was mentioned, but to add to the lack of night and day changes, you can actually play around with the screen settings and make it look almost like night time! lol

...you can actually play around with the screen settings and make it look almost like night time! lol

The key being almost like night time. I can make it look exactly like night time - I turn the TV off. How good is your muscle memory?

Anyway, when racing at high speed I much prefer to be able to see everything clearly, I have enough difficulty following the road because of all the eye candy and lack of any depth when you are going at high speed means that it turns into a jumble of confusion and you have to rely on trust/memory. (For example, I have yet to be able to recognise the low wall in the Infineon main straight bend while playing and just have to turn based on memory - same thing goes for the bend at Paris Opera (reverse I think) on the main straight which his hidden in shadows and a few other turns on the various courses - these are not ones that are proper blind corners but just ones obscured by the rendering)

Never really had that problem. Do a dozen laps on a track, and you should be good to go. If I can't see a turn coming but I know it should be there, I look for other things. For example, nn that long straight divided into two on the more modern Circuit de la Sarthe track, there a few small blue signs you can see and use as a marker on when to start breaking.

Depends on what you define as 'fastest'.

Sauber is alright, from what I've read (never used it, prefer the 787B), but the 787B is plenty quick to keep up down the straights, great through the corners, and awesome on tires and fuel.

*cough*See sig for tune*cough*

Did I just say that^?

The GT series uses the same colors, but in the real race the jets are intended to produce the colors of the French flag. Polyphony added that nice touch. :)

I have a love/hate feeling for the 24 hour races.
I love it for the fact that it’s a true endurance race that pushes not only the cars capability and longevity, but the driver(s) over an extreme amount of time.
I hate it because I don’t have the time to actually partake in the event except for a few hours before having to hand it off to my B-spec pilot for the remainder of the event. I would love to be able to compete in the whole event at some point for a couple of reasons. 1 – The most obvious, to say that I have done it. And the second would be to be able to test out my settings on my Audi R8. I ran it in the final championship in the professional hall and even after running it to over 600 miles (Tuning time and event time/distance w/out refreshing the frame) it is still was very controllable and predictable even at high speeds. I just wonder how true that will hold up in the extreme long run though.

As far as which car is the fastest. Zardoz ran a pseudo-scientific trial that gives a pretty good understanding on how the cars match up.
Like he says, it’s not 100% accurate, and results may change after taking the time to properly tune, but it will give you a pretty good idea about each car ability. Here is a link: https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=61921

Hope that helps.

wow cool thanks for the link.. alot of interesting info in there. i also just got myself an R8, 01' though.

Yep, thats the Audi that I personaly drive.

The last two times I set up a 24 hour run I tuned up a Pescarolo Courage C60 '03 for my b-spec driver. He had a rating of just a hair under 3000 points before his first race. I was given a pretty good line up he still finished first.

One way to race the 24 hrs Endurance Races is to team up with a couple of friends who enjoy the series and make a fun weekend out of the event. Just as they do in real life, you could race in shifts; each of you doing two four-hour shifts for a total of 24 hrs.

I like the 787B as well - very fast, good acceleration and braking, good stability in the sweeping turns and superior tire wear.

Regarding Zardoz pseudo-scientific Le Mans car comparison. It is interesting and very helpful. However, you must note that the tire hardness is not the same for each car in his comparison which is a HUGE factor when comparing cars. As every racer knows; the tire compound can make or brake the race for you. I'm not discounting his efforts. It's just that you need to be aware of the different tire compounds involved in that test when comparing cars.

yea.. might u know what makes the r8's so dominant in real life le mans? other then the reliability factor? not that production audis are so great at that, but yeah..

I used the R8 for my first 24h lemans race, for the second i used the R92cp. won them both on A-Spec only. later did the 24 @ the ring on a 787b.

I’m not quite sure what gives Audi an edge in real life. But obviously what ever they are doing, they are doing something right.

I find the Japanese Group C cars of the early 90s to be some of the fastest monsters in the game (excluding the Formula cars, obviously), making them quite handy for endurance races. The only problem with them is that their downforce is obscene and they are sometimes a nervous drive. This is mostly because the fastest race circuit they were originally intended to run on was Fuji Speedway.

Toyota's Le Mans race car, as driven by K. Tsuchiya, is a good car for the Sarthe 24h. It did, after all, win Le Mans.

Did it? I thought that the Mazda 787B was the only Japanese car to win a LeMans Race.

Or are you talking about the Toyota GT1? That car took 2nd at Le Mans behind the BMW V12LMR in '99

Paragon's right. Mazda's the only manufacturer to have won Le Mans.

And the 787B makes for an awesome money maker at Fuji Speedway for me (Fuji 1000km). Of course, I had to turbo it to GUARANTEE BSB a win, but... He could probably do without it as well. After I'm done spamming for $$, I'll run some tests on it, see if I can get him to win it. Should help his battle skill at the very least.

oops. Second place finish by Toyota, then.

Anyway, to support my notion of Group C cars being total monsters of their day, look no further than one of Nissan's R92 CP drivers, Masahiro Hasemi. On qualifying day, he'd have special one-lap tires to be installed and was given the green light by Nissan to maximize the turbine boost. Group C cars (not just fielded on behalf of Nissan, either) produced over 1200ps back then and lapped Fuji Speedway in 1'14"000. He'd use seven sets of these special one-lap tires in one hour of qualifying and then at the end of each lap the tires would almost blow :) Regular output on race days was around 850ps.

To quote Hasemi-san when discussing his past experiences with Nissan at Fuji Speedway:
"The acceleration would last the entire straightaway, even into the first corner; the acceleration just would not stop. You're blasting through a wall of air going at 390km/h+, and then you'd brake hard into the first corner. The cornering speeds were also unbelievable. I used to tremble with excitement after the qualifying round going full-out with 1200 horsepower... The F1 machines of today are no match for these Group C cars. I'm sure even Schumacher has never driven a car like this."
(Best Motoring, 2003)

Would the 1:14 laps be on what is called the "80's" layout or the "90's" layout?

But yes... Describing the Group C's as monsters is about right. Even the 'underpowered' 787B was a complete monster in its day.

The DVD shows shots that suggests it to be the "90s" layout as depicted in Gran Turismo. There's also footage of both the YHP and Calsonic R92 race cars going through the S-curve lethally fast...absolutely insane.

I'll rip the footage and post it on YouTube later, if anyone wants to watch Hasemi talk about his race car.

No problem setsunakute. I wasn’t sure if you meant Mazda or if Toyota had won Le Mans at one point.

I can’t say that I have ever been a fan of the GT one. No matter how I tuned it in the past, it has always been temperamental and difficult for me to enjoy driving. Now granted it has been a while since I have driven one, and my ability to tune cars has definitely increased over the last couple months. Maybe I should give another try to see if I can tame that beast.

I agree about the group C cars. They are true monsters. I have driven most of them but I have really only taken the time to tune the R92CP. (Black)

You meant "only Japanese manufacturer". I.e. not even "only in-game manufacturer". It's obvious from the above context, but it took me a while to track down what you meant by "only manufacturer".

I currently have the Minolta Toyota, I'm planning on running the Le Mans after I do some testing and run a family cup race to see how it stacks up against its counter parts. I had the harebrained idea of running a formula car, let's just say it was obliterated at the end of Mulsanne,(I was running it in B-spec). The worst car in my opinion is the Bentley Speed 8. I ran it at Sarthe for one of the license tests, and it had a very testy drive, especially down the 1 mile straight before Indianapolis corner. The Minolta is quick, and I actually did win a race with it at High-Speed Ring with the other LM cars.

I heard Toyota spent way too much money on that GT1 of theirs nd still never took the flag. One of the few things they can't brag about. heh

I disagree. The Bentley is an amazing car if you take the time to properly tune it. I was able to break well under two minutes on Sarthe in the Bentley.

Don't base the cars performance on the one that you ran in the test. The cars in the tests are not set up very well.

Oh my, you're fast. Sub TWO's? :P

I know you meant into the 2:XX mark, and well below 3.

Ugh . . .your right Rotary. Under 3 minutes not under two.

Proof positive that you shouldn't post when your so tired you can't think straight.

I think that my time was around 2:50 if I remember right.

I wonder if anyone had set up a group of records for the 24 hour events?
I saw a club for everyone that had completed the event in A-spec. But I wonder who has pulled the most laps in the race.
