I bought GT2 last week and I have a few questions. Were the super license tests always in GT2? I thought they had a rally license. Also is because I have gotten used to GT4's graphics that I find GT2's lacking? Also I remember it being much harder. Anyway that my two cents

Funny you should make this thread, I recieved a brand spankling new copy of GT2 in the post this morning. Yes, anything you remember as beng better than it is is because your more accustomed to newer games. You get used to the graphics in no time imo, what Ireally love about GT2 and the reason I got it again is the car selection and the more instant pick up and play nature of it over GT4.

The GT series is a conundrum to me, each GT game has somethng the other's don't have, but would benefit if it was there. GT1 had every car barring the concept car's able to have a race mod, EVERY car. GT2 had the BHP limits, GT3 had the same competitions at different difficulties and race lenths like the Beginner FF cup, the amature FF cup and the professional FF cup etc, GT4 has other race restictions but no max BHP limit. If PD made a GT game and combined all of that it'd be so much better.

Yes the super license is in GT2. You have to complete all the GT series races though. Once you do this, the game awards you with a 4th page after the World Cup; this is where your Event Generator is and where the Super license is utilized.

There is no seperate rally test in GT2...instead, some of the license tests include rallying (IC, IB, and IA)

Okay thanks. I thought for sure they had a rally license. Oh well thanxs for clearin that up for me.

I joined the series at GT3..... so I never really experienced the earlier GT's..... but they did seem to have every car under the sun!

GT2 in a sense had way, way more car's than GT4, it had around 600 different car models, but hundereds of them could be race modified, that was a feature dropped after GT2 due to time constraings but it basically was a tune up option where you replaced your car's chassis and bodywork with a race car's, so your rn of the mill Renault Megane would look like the Renault Megan rally car and the TVR Speed 12 would look like the Speed 12 GTS that raced in the FIA GT in 1998 etc.

You made the right choice to get GT2. IMHO it's the most fun game in the series :D

Yup, once you get good at it, it becomes the most fun because there are hundreds of cars. Once you're really good money is no longer an issue. You can buy any car you want in a few minutes of racing pretty much and fully tune lesser cars with the extra money you earned.

...and it doesn't feel like you're working. :D In contrast, going thru portions of GT3 is true work. Yeah you earn some money, but you won't be doing it till you're REALLY into it

GT is the most fun, even if it has less cars but you could Race Mod almost all the cars.

yeah I'm enjoying it.:)

I forgot to tell you...the S license page doesn't show up till you finish all the regular licenses (B thru IA) with at least bronzes.

Yeah, I just picked up GT2 FOR THE FIRST TIME......TODAY!! I had rented it when it was new and LOVED IT, but got a PS2 before I got a chance to buy it.

I love this game so much. It doesn't even matter that the graphics blow massively.....it's just so fun.

I really miss the Race Modification too. Before PS2 was out, I sold both GT1 and GT2, but ended up buying both games again within months. They are very good games.

Amen to this. 👍

haha.....I've been on this site a year now.....I'm not going anywhere.

I'm an abid GT fan. I have GT1 since new.........GT3 since new, GT4 since new.....and now GT2.....the best one IMO.

Why is GT2 so much more fun to play than the rest of them?? I'm starting to think it has to do with hp limits and more competitive AI. That's what really sucks about GT4 is the horrid AI. I can't tell you how many races I've had and gotten 3 wide in GT2 and finished with all the car in under a second. And they aren't as rough and retarded either.

How can you make a game so much better on so many levels and make the AI 100x worse?? :dunce: < PD deserves that.

Don't forget damage.......GT2 has it......none of the rest do.

Don't believe me......go to options and under arcade race options turn damage ON.

Then go race in arcade mode and hit something. You're car won't turn for crap afterwards and may pull left or right. GT3 and GT4 should have had this option.....along with GT2 SIM mode. No body damage, but the suspension damage is just what the series needed to make you not cheat and drive like a real driver......of course GT4 ai would ruin this by ramming you in every turn.

I'll tell you why it's more fun!

1. It's the least serious GT. No qualifying, and most races last under 10 minutes, which (Pupik stated this long ago) makes it easiest to just pick up and walk away from. Only a handful of race series (GT300, 500, World Cup, and some enduros) wind up lasting more than an hour.

In contrast, GT3 has MANY race series that can last an entire afternoon. What if you start to suck??? No prize car at the end, and you may wanna start all over! AND THIS IS THE AMATEUR LEAGUE. I can't comment on GT4 but I'm sure it's the same deal.

In contrast, GT2 is a lot more arcade-ish. It has tons of cars that should NOT be in a racing videogame sim (Daihatsu Midget? Toyota Prius?? Honda Life T Type???) and tons more that are almost completely impractical (Plymouth GTX...Chrysler Phaeton... Aston Martin DB6...)

But that's what makes it fun! It goes in so many directions...like a Salvidor Dali painting. It also has the most flaws and (to me) feels the most human in that respect. :)

I agree...sim mode should have the suspension damage feature, especially during enduros, which are timed too precisely. For instance, you know that leading GT40 in the Apricot Hill Enduro has to pit every 16 laps. What if there was damage? That would mean ALL cars would have to pit more often and it would change strategy.

I hate the way damage ONLY affects your car though...the only place it makes sense is during 2 player races.
