Just How Hard Is The 24 Hour Nurburgring Race?

Hey Folks,

Not sure if this was brought up before, as I didn't see it in any previous threads, but thought the following article concerning the 'hardest levels to complete' on any console was quite interesting, as it included the 24 Hour Nurburgring as the 4th HARDEST LEVEL to complete....hhhmmmmm...wonder why? LOL!

Anyway, you can read more about it here:

NOTE: If this has been discussed previously, pardon my ignorance for not thoroughly checking this thread section! :-)

In terms of endurance yes it is probably the hardest race in GT4 due to the distance covered and demands of the track itself before adding competitors. However in another sense though it could be seen as not really a difficult race due to the fact your allowed to take overpowered cars to the event that will crush the competition.

Well, it is 24 hours straight, and considering the 170+ or so turns that the driver has to negotiate for all that time... and the opponent is formidable too. I am not surprised that it is mentioned, but as the 4th-hardest level in all of video games? Have they played Heroes of the Pacific?

As for high-powered cars, yes, but that also compromises their drivability over 24 hours. An LMP or GTP car, for instance, will take more effort from the driver to keep in a straight line than the A.I. cars in FIA GT, DTM, JGTC and the like that are also competing.

Also, take in the fact that whichever car you use will drive at least 3500k's, so be prepared to sell it. I actually used my prize car from Nurburgring 4 hour, the Chapparal 2D. Afterwards, i just raced for another one! It depends on your b-spec skill to handle car wear...

The 24hr Nurburgring race is not even close to being one of GT4's hardest races to win, let alone one of gaming's hardest "levels".

Actually, the race is much easier than that. Take any of those types of cars you described, and you will win. Want somewhat of a challenge? Go for JGTC GT300, or the 1992 AMG Mercedes 190E Evolution II Touring Car. You will still win, but you will have fought a little for it. I seem to remember actually having a competitor on the same lap as myself when I crossed the line in the Cusco Subaru Advan Impreza.
The first time I did the 24hrs, I used the BMW M3 GTR Racecar, and regreted that halfway, when I knew for sure that I was going to win - I had like a 6 or 7 laps lead by then. I have later tried the Nissan Falken GT-R Racecar, but that was also overkill.

Neither is COD4, there is a place to hide until the chopper comes on that level.

The fact you can use B-spec (and then speed up time 3x) immediately makes it much easier than it would be. As long as your b-spec driver is competent you can do the first stint and then switch it over to him, speed up time, and then do something else, checking back every so often to speed up time again after they've pitted.

Maybe 'hardest level' isn't solely based on the ability to beat/win a particular level/track, but maybe also how long it takes to actually do it!

Compared to all the other enduro races in GT4, I agree that the 24 hour Nurburg isn't that hard to 'win', but doing it in A and/or B spec mode sure does take a long time?

Guess seeing as there was no criteria given for what deemed this particular entry as one of the 5 hardest levels to beat, guess all we can do is speculate..

Its not that hard its just very long and the track is quite demanding compared to GT4's other tracks. I've only done the Nurburgring 24hrs once (without doing a driver change via B:Spec :), with B:Spec Bob as co-driver three times) and it was quite exhuasting to do it in one hit, the only reason I got thru was thanks to Red Bull and even then afterwards I just hit the sack. I raced with the GT-One and dominated so it wasn't as exciting as if I had used a GT300 car etc. I find that if the racing is close the laps go faster, the race goes faster and time goes a lot quicker, your not just driving around waiting until the clock ticks down.

It is actually much harder to win in B-Spec with an equivalent car (I ended up losing entering a NSX LM), but I think that it is tough physically. Not many levels would last 24 hours, however there are indeed much harder challenges in GT, such as Mission 33... The real difficulty is in keeping up, not keeping in front. My last post actually said that, I believe.

Meh, played harder games than the ones they listed, though GH3's Dragonforce is deserving. A long time ago, I played a lot of Star Wars Bounty Hunter, never beat half the levels in it, maybe less.

you want hard games?? play Armored Core : Last Raven.., that one will give you a migraine if you're new to it :P:D

As for the 24hr.., where is the option in B-Spec mode where you can go up to 3x speed??

I believe you hold down two shoulder buttons (L1 and R1), then move the arrow buttons (right for higher speed, left for slower speeds).

Maybe among contemporary games it is hard... Brave Fencer Musashi, Heroes of the Pacific, Armored Core, Spyro The Dragon, and Crash Bash are all games that require more skill, and yet all have been released for the PS1 or are early PS2 releases, save Heroes.

oh i see.., thanks, i'll try some of the other enduros on B-Spec..,

Brave Fencer Musashi is one of the best games in the PS1.., it's challenging but it's not that hard.., i'm telling you, Armored Core can AND will give you a headache.., :banghead::lol:

Well heres how ive seen it done without B spec

My friend played for 12 hours........took a 6 hour break to sleep and finished the rest after that.

I have also seen three guys alternate every 3 hours.

dude, drive with an opera performance s2000 that is hard, my frinds and i was driving one. R2 tires and turbocharger. everyone of us was driving 8 hours

Just the last levels, really... when Dark Lumina's only weak point is- now I'm off-topic.

Not that hard if you get a very good car and put it on b-spec. I'm doing it on b-spec again for a different colored f1 car. Man I wish you could get an oil change on it. I have raced it so much that it only has around 745hp!!! Just kidden it doesn't lose hp. Atleast I'm pretty sure it doesn't?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

"Difficult" is what you make it. I 200 A-Spec'd the 24hr Nurburgring in a TVR Tuscan. The challenge even then wasn't beating the AI, it was to continually try and better my lap times against myself and not crash :D.

Man, I was 23 hours into a-specing it for the first time and the dang power went out because of a storm!!! I hate that storm!!!

"Difficult" is what you make it.

I can relate to that. I have also come up with another solution: If you get too far ahead, let your friends who have never played before drive a little. (8 hours into Le Sarthe I 24h, I let a couple friends drive. Took them 5 laps altogether to lose the 1-lap lead I had:ouch:.)

For the sarthe races dont add power upgrades as the competition also gets more power and is harder to do, other than that if you A-spec 5t all the way through make sure you have all the food and soda near you so you dont have to stop.

Now the Nurb is a bit different. You want a Fast but not too fast car, try and pit almost every 1-2 laps depending on how fast you are going.

I don't know, I let B-Spec "Bob" handle most of it...

When I tried to A-Spec it with a BMW 120d, with the S2 turbo +oil change (247hp/330ft of torque) its a 200pt A-Spec or B-spec event vs real race cars, yet I can lap with the faster cars no problem.

With right setup I can even have "Bob" push (setting 5) for about 95% of the lap, save he makes a mistake around the backside of the course which is easy to mis-judge for a human driver if you don't know the circuit well.

However to keep "Bob" from making that error I have to use "Fast" or setting 4 and the A.I doesn't use an aggressive enough pit strategy for my liking (pitting for tires and fuel every 5 laps), my pit strategy for A-Spec would be to use the diesel's fuel mileage to your advantage which I can go 8-9 laps (before the super hard slicks go off) on a tank with tires taken at every stop, knocking off roughly 12-15 seconds off what the computer does if left to its own devices.

To win the race B spec only I used the BMW M3 GTR and its overkill....

The Falken Skyline finishes about 9 minutes behind, finishing time is 24:02'22.737, lapping everybody but the Skyline. A fine display by Bob, albeit in a overpowering car that has actually won the race outright before in real time.

The 120d's are competitive at the 'Ring as well and I wanted to use that as they often finish in the Top 10 in real time and since the computer stops more than it needs too, over 24 hours I should be able to beat the A.I using my modified 120d with ease actually...

Might try it sometime...
