Hello Kaz,
This is not a whinefest or a bashing of your highly successful franchise that you have so lovingly created for us, the fans.
Now before I begin, I would just like to thank you and the team at Polyphony, for all of the hard work that you have all put into GT and making it one of the most successful and well known franchises in the gaming/simulator industry. If it was not for Gran Turismo, I, as a pimply faced 14 year old would never have developed the love for anything related to cars as I have since first putting the GT1 disc into my Playstation all those years ago. SO for all of that, I applaud you, and take my hat off to you.
Having played GT FLAT OUT right from GT1 to GT5, I found that each of the installments would keep me going until the next highly anticipated one would be first placed into my hands by the shopkeeper down at the local game store. Each time, racing home (or telling mum and dad to drive faster) to eagerly fire the PS1, 2, and 3 to watch the opening movie for the first time, and settle in until playing with one eye open in the middle of the night. Gran Turismo, upon all of their releases surpassed any of my responsibilities for that given day, and many more days than I would care to admit. This is what Gran Turismo was to me, growing up with it.
Now with GT5 and GT6, the responsibilities were once again overlooked for those respective release days, but GT5 did not keep me going until GT6. Then GT6 barely kept me going for a month or two post release. I am not sure what has/has not happened to the series but it just seemed to lose that edge that it once had. No more was it exciting, or revolutionary for me. It just failed to grab me and keep a hold of me until the next installment in the series.
Having followed this great website for a number of years now, and seeing some of the great suggestions from this community (especially VBRs great thread on the GT6 board about being forced into so much) that would have greatly improved the series, they just seemed to go ignored, eventually leading to quite a bit of frustration form the fans. Me being one of them. Even your Q&A thread that was kindly set up by Jordan was left to die off, while giving the fans some glimmer of hope that they would be listened to and hopefully have some sort of an input into the series that no doubt they have also been following for a great deal of time.
It is also the lack of communication and the empty promises that are continually a prominent part of the lead up to any of the newer Gran Turismo games.
It is because of this, and other frustrations, that it is with a VERY heavy heart, that I will not be purchasing GT Sport. Gran Turismo will ALWAYS have a special place in my gaming heart, but for the first time in my life, my responsibilities will not be pushed aside for that one day by a Gran Turismo game. I guess the point I am trying to make Kaz, is PLEASE listen to your fans in the future. We are here to help, not to hinder.
So its on that note that I drop the mic, and slide out.
Thanks Kaz. Keep on keeping on, and I hope that one day I can push my responsibilities aside foo that one special moment again.
