Kaz at Taipei Game Show: GT7 in production, more content for GTS and more

I really doubt GT7 will show up any time soon. Like what would set it appart from Sport? The engine is the same, the extra cars and tracks are obviously not ready so we do get them in GTS over time. Its not like because of FIA, there are 30 imaginary tracks just sitting on PD hard drives that are finished but cant be released without approval.

GT7 should have multiplayer but then whats the difference between GTS online. Probably beefier singleplayer but realistically, how much more could they add to be all new besides some story mode progression. If we are talking about 3-4 years down the line, sure. But anything sooner is just a Definitive Edition of GTS. GTS is becoming GT7 over time.

Yeah, I'm not too worried about PD dropping support of GTS any time soon. Even if they really started making GT7 already, it'll take at least 3 years until it's released. As long as they keep fine-tuning GTS and adding new content now and then over the coming years, I'm going to be very happy. So far they're doing an excellent job supporting their game post-release.

GTS already has a great graphics, great multiplayer, and since recently even a half-way decent singleplayer game. The only big features that are missing are dynamic time, weather, and track conditions. I fear that those things won't ever be added to GTS, because they are technically very complex and would require major modifications to the game's engine.

@Turbo Racer 48
That is good news but nothing that is surprising, I expected them to gradually expand the game - something which is common with any heavily online based game. People just need to relax and enjoy the game, instead of worrying about the game being light on content.

Couldn't agree more - very much enjoying game as is already and looking forward with anticipation to how GTS will be expanded - PD will do it in their way at their time and choosing......as posted before they clearly have a very good platform to build from and it appears the 'structured' resources to execute the expansion and have delivered to schedule 50% of what was 'promised' by end March..........

I agree the vast majority of time is in the detail and this is the PD way - they see themselves as craftsmen and this may also be related to Japanese culture.

For example you do know how Kaz signed off the GTS launch event in Modena - he called GTS a "gift" from his company to the players. To Western ears this sounds strange indeed but fits with the craftmanship ethos.

Personally I find it a refreshing counter to the yearly EA type full price minor 'refresh' or in my perception Forza's 2 year update cycle on recent MotorSports releases.

Couple of other comments if I may :

• Comparison to FM7 and to some extent PC2 from a system development platform perspective may be a little unfair as GTS represents a second generation re-launch whereas Forza is on its third update Forza 5 was criticised for lack of content too when it was the new generation platform. PC2 is an update though a more substantial one though with a lot of apparent launch bugs....
If we believe Kaz (ignoring PS3 misteps) then GTS will have 500 cars by end of its lifecycle of (assumed 3-4 years). Proof of course is in the eating of the pudding so delivery of the 50 cars by March is key.

• As attached post shows 50 cars is about in line with there staffing capability on a 6 month per person basis (the 50 number is a rounded number for the number of car modellers shown under credits in Options about the game tab......tracks is more diificult but using the same data source there are 38 location tracks modellers excluding senior staff. I've seen some suggestion that in GT6 it would take 4-6 modellers six months to do a track. Given GTS needs integration with Circuit Experience etc assume 6 months for 6 modellers and assuming not working on anything else that would indicate 6 additional tracks within 6 months. To my mind that sounds high so we will just need to wait and see.

Unfortunately, I can not say a few words with him or ask some questions because I am not a mediaman and he is very busy .. But thanks God, I still get a photo with him!:gtpflag:

nice!

We need somebody to translate this ASAP guys.
But we have it right here on the front page on this forum:

Gran Turismo series founder Kazunori Yamauchi has been in attendance at the Taipei Game Show. Following a stage event, he participated in a round-table interview. Here, he spoke of more details regarding GT Sport.

Polyphony Digital is currently updating GT Sport on a regular basis. Thus far, we’ve seen three updates that brought additional vehicles and circuits to the game — the most recent of which arrived just this week. The good news is that the team plans to continue with them.

When asked about the updates, Yamauchi answered that he planned to add vehicles and courses, as well as continuing with GT League expansion. One journalist noted that many of the new cars to GT Sport also featured in previous GT games, but Yamauchi confirmed that updates would include new cars as well as these fan favorites in the future.

Yamauchi hopes to improve other elements of GT Sport too. VR, for example, has limited functionality in the game at present. Although not likely to expand to include multiplayer modes, he hopes to at least allow players to use VR in time trial mode.

One curious potential addition is an age selector. Yamauchi stated that he’d like to include a player’s age within their profile, allowing them to race within their age group. This may be good for children, but has potential for older gamers too. However, he does note that the FIA events within the game are strictly for those aged 18 and older.

Those hoping for wider vehicle tuning and customization options, such as we’re used to with previous games, may face disappointment though. Yamauchi reiterated that the goal of GT Sport differs from those numbered games. Customization, he said, will “probably return in the next game”.

As we know, GT Sport focuses on esports, and Yamauchi spoke more on that topic. He’d earlier witnessed a race between selected gamers at the venue and remarked on how impressed he was with the quality and sportsmanship on display.

The topic of the FIA Digital License also came up. That’s still an ongoing process, although Yamauchi is relatively positive. The finer points are “moving forward one step at a time”. Although it’s proving difficult to get a global consensus on how the license will function, Polyphony is still communicating with the FIA and regional motorsports bodies.

Thanks to Lord Protector for the tip!

Basically, PD started to work on next GT since the launch of GT Sport, they don't know if they call it GT7 as of now.

That's not what Kaz said:

he said, will “probably return in the next game”.

Of course there will be more GT games, but nothing about PD have already started on the next game, so if i was you, i would remove it from the headline of this thread.

Very strange.

If the new GT is in production, it's bad news. IMO.

I would like GTS to be a game like iRacing.

I would like GTS to receive monthly updates and every four months receive paid DLCs.

I wish GTS lasted more than five years.

I would like GTS to be cross platform and also work on PS5.

If a new GT is in production, the feeling is that GTS can be dropped gradually.

I would prefer PD to focus on GTS for long years.

And produce the new TT separately.

every four months receive paid DLCs.
Why do you want paid DLC when we are receiving monthly free DLC?

It's not in production, the title of this thread is misleading, many game developers starts to think about the next game when the previous game is released, this is nothing new, but Kaz haven't said they have started on it yet.

And thinking about the next game is the first phase of game development.

I think a game like Sport would be well-suited to the iRacing approach, sure — it practically is iRacing on consoles, in a lot of ways — but from a business perspective, I can see how that'd be undesirable.

IIRC, iRacing has a five-figure subscriber amount. That's peanuts, even if you factor in the "whales" that drop hundreds on the service. GT is a first-party game, tasked with not only selling well, but also selling hardware. Keeping Sport as the only title in the franchise in five years means there's less "new" games on shelves, and consumers like "new". The take rate for DLC is low. That means it's just not as lucrative in terms of return as a full-price sequel.

I would gladly pay a subscription for a racing game like any of the 2017 Big Three if it meant a steady stream of new content, but I'm pretty sure I'm in the minority there in terms of GT's typical buyers. It lives and dies based on the casual gamers, not the hardcore sim racers. Most people don't play the same game for years on end, so you're left with a dwindling potential buyer base for every subsequent DLC release.

Honestly, some of that wishlist sounds a little far-fetched. I can't think of a console game that's received steady support for over five years (GTAV comes close), nor one that works cross-platform across two generations of console from the same company.

Why do you want paid DLC when we are receiving monthly free DLC?

For one, I like giving money to companies that produce products I enjoy. But also, you get what you pay for — I'd be more likely to pay for DLC if it were genuinely new-to-series cars.

And thinking about the next game is the first phase of game development.

I'm thinking of having pizza for dinner — does that mean I've entered the pizza development business? :P

That's stretching things a little; Kazunori could think of what GT8 might be like in a decade, but that doesn't mean the game is then in development.

Obviously there will be another Gran Turismo after Sport and I would be very surprised if it came before the PS5 generation.

Something I am VERY surprised about is the fact that a spinoff in the sense of open world style racing hasn’t been thought of for the GT series (a la Forza Horizon). There’s an obvious market for it and GT could do great by entering it.

But Kaz was talking about newer cars will come to GT S and since we have already 2 free DLC, i don't think the next DLC's will cost us anything, but that remains to see.

And besides GT S have cars that are new to the series already, BMW M6 GT3, Mercedes AMG GT GT3, Toyota Hybrid TS050, Porsche Hybrid 919, Porsche 911 RSR, Audi R8 LMS, all three Lexus, Renault Sport R.S 01 and more.

How many of those are DLC?

Never mind, i misread this.

It’s not uncommon for games to have a mix of free and paid DLC.

Thus far most of the cars that have been added are ones that have been in past games so it makes sense that they are free.

Oh, I don't think the next round of DLC will cost anything either. But I also expect it to be primarily GT6 cars again.

After March 2018? Perhaps one or both of those things will change.
