As usual... here on GTP...

It's the usual Kaz interview with the usual Kaz answers:

“We do carefully consider feedback from the community of Gran Turismo… but there is a roadmap about what are the things we need to do for the future”

Which is yet another way of saying the usual thing: We are not hearing you. Me and my studio are doing whatever we want.

Is GT7 a bad game? I do 30 minutes around Le Mans daily to top up my credits and get a rigged lotto ticket.

Then I switch on my PS2 and load GT4. I've silvered the B National licence, and bronzed all the others. I've beaten the first 10 missions and done some beginner hall races. The AI has handed out defeat a couple of times and I'm having to fight for the win. It's what I wanted GT7 to be. Not this continuation of GT6.

And why hasn't Kaz published the road map? Why even mention it and not publish it.

A modern sequel to GT4 would have been perfect for me, it's what I imagined GT7 was going to be before it came out. Current gen physics, graphics, larger grids, the newer tuning options and body kits (widebodies etc), livery editor, ongoing DLC support and online on top of a GT4 like career mode would have been fantastic. I fail to imagine how a game like that cold have failed to deliver. Instead we got GT7.

A lot of negative remarks have been made about GT7 and Mr Yamauchi - rightfully so.

But I have to admit, the car selling feature is just nicely done, to me. The cars do feel valuable and the dynamic prices are a cool feature. It doesnt improve the core issues of the game. But this one added feature has been done nicely.

A sentence I read two or three times was:

"GT7 is just a year out, we have much time.. " or sth like that.

Theres two sides to this:

A - In the 2022 game industry a year is a lot of time. A whole lot. You cant just act like the game just came out and nothing could ever be expected at this point in time. A year!!

B - The 2022 game industry sucks for the most part. I've been online gaming since 99 and whilst on the technological side of things a lot has been improved, I am very confused by games like Valorant or Fortnite. Back in the day these games wouldve been considered childish crap, not requiring any skill at all. So if Mr Yamauchi is still in his old school way to look at things, that might be good.

When asked why it took so long, Yamauchi’s answer was rather frank: “We just didn’t have the time to do it properly”. Referencing older Gran Turismo titles, he added “We didn’t want to implement it where all cars that you buy are automatically one-third of their value when you go to sell it”, noting that “we were also creating a model where the prices of the cars vary, and there were a lot of things that we wanted to do in regards to the buying and selling of cars”.
To me that reads as "We wanted to find a way to keep people from selling their 100s of NSX Group B cars for infinite money all at once"

So at this point as far as new content goes track wise I think at some point we should see Apricot Hill and Grand Valley as they have been used in the find your line trailers as segments of both these tracks have been flashed. Midfield was redone and added to GT6 so it's feasible that it may also come back. The discussion has been bandied about that there are two new layouts for the Nürburgring already sitting in current game data.

When do we see any of this, good question - as we can't see or know what the timeline based on PD's poker styled roadmap is. Supposedly some data is already there for some of the aforementioned tracks is it possible that one of these gets opened up as a surprise out of the blue 22/12 update? Probably not but again who knows where the PD roadmap is going to go.

“I wanted to put serious thought into defining what sport is,” says Yamauchi. “When we think of sport today, the things you think about are the sponsors, the ticketing and broadcasting rights, and the sales of goods and merchandise, but what I’m thinking of is something different from that”.

This is so mindblowingly stupid I don't even know where to start. The things everyone has been asking about for years are going to be ignored, while we don't know what he actually thinks sport is (and it sounds to me he might not really know either). Also one of the reasons the chances of FIA coming back are extremely low (have a source who said this summer the FIA was EXTREMELY unhappy with the state of GT7).

It's a real shame because there's so much untapped potential that will probably never be exploited because of stubborness and tone deaf attitude. Just a slight priority shift and management change could propel Gran Turismo into being the biggest simracing esport ever by a huge margin. But they'd rather hold back functional features from the players to avoid their official events being beaten by 3rd party stuff...

He's so much in the future that he can't imagine himself speaking about the future without already being in the future. He was probably born in the future, waiting the time to pass to be born and finally start speaking about the future. I think...
DeLorean Rampage LS7 swap explained. 88mph is obviously not enough.🫡

Kaz talks about GT7 like it’s a project that’s going to span a decade. I doubt it will and all those things on the horizon are probably just considerations without clear goals in mind. We’ve heard so much talk like this over the years and yet GT7 doesn’t come across as anything close to a culmination of everything they’ve learned. It’s just a pretty and refined driving sim trapped inside a conflicted package. I have no hope.

I'd never have guessed. Eye opening stuff, really laid it all out there on what to expect and when.
Well if they're still working on it they probably don't have a release date set.
Honestly, I love Kaz and he has my utmost respect for everything he has done for this franchise. But I think he's no longer suitable to direct this company, the current way he handles it is not great and there's very little communication about the future.

Maybe it's time to retire?
gt7 got excellent reviews and seems to be selling really well so that's a bit unlikely.
"Unable to talk about VR2" sounds like bad news…
That's probably because the announcements around VR2 are going to be scheduled.

No, he has a roadmap, he just can't/won't share any of it, not even a couple of months ahead, with the public.

Not really, it's just more of Kaz saying nothing at all. The man feels absolutely no need to attempt to convince potential users of the strength of his game or the long term value that he intends to provide.

Even the best live service games in the world are expected to communicate with their users, especially in regards to future planning. Kaz is specifically saying that a year is not enough time to talk about the future, which is not terribly good for anyone regardless of what their current opinion of the game is.

The takeaway is if you're expecting the game to grow and develop then don't expect it any time soon. And this is Polyphony Soon™.

Just delete all wish threads. The man is already using up too much brain cell resources as it is. Imagine him reading many of these good ideas and wishes, trying to implement anyone of them before the next game. Lord, have us mercy. My time on this planet is limited.

What frustrates me the most is every iteration of DLC has zero theme or continuity...

Example: They recently added a rallycross track, why didn't they throw in the Escudo and Celica WRC with it which would naturally give people a more meaningful insentive to drive said cars on?

But no, it's all completely random opposite cars to broaden the demographic as much as possible, which isn't bad... but it could be done better imo...

They are evidently bringing back oldskool JGTC cars like the Castrol Supra and Pennzoil R34, if they had more JGTC cars coming why not bundle them together included with a legendary JGTC track like Sugo??

It's just a wishful example...

Obviously this alone will not fix the game at all, but it does seem like it's mostly all we have left ahead... So why not do it a little better at least?

It's just hilarious, EVERY live service game I know always has a roadmap. The devs have always been communicative and transparent with it too.
Meanwhile Kaz and PD kept it close to them only. The only time they do it was back in March but even then it was because of the massive backlash lol

If this is all the juiciest info MULTIPLE journalists could get from Kaz at this conference COMBINED... then that's simply hilarious.
I think it's less "this is what they could get" and more "this is what Kaz, Polyphony and Sony wish to say". Which is essentially nothing - I'm sure that Sony would like Kaz to spin it in slightly more diplomatic terms but the reality seems to be that there's nothing in the near future worth bragging about.

Remember, journalists aren't interrogators threatening subjects with torture if they don't cough up answers. It's a professional relationship - the journalists ask, the subjects can choose how to respond and that's mostly it.

Let's be honest, the chances that they have a roadmap in the same sense that other live service games have a roadmap is low. They almost certainly have a plan, because you can't make games for a living without having some sort of plan. But it's clearly not something that can be shared with anyone outside of Polyphony, and it raises the question of whether normal people would consider what they have to be a reasonable form of forward planning.

For example, does Polyphony know what they're going to be putting in the March 2023 update? I sort of doubt it. I suspect they're working on a bunch of stuff, and come late February they'll have a quick hustle to get something together out of whatever happens to be complete and unreleased at the time.

I mean, I work with people who have their next six months planned out in MS Project with daily schedules, and I also work with people who have a scrap of paper with five things on it one of which is "coffee every day from 10 to 11:30". Some of these people I trust with ongoing projects and support, and some I thank the baby cheeses when they turn up to work with pants on.

Interesting how he says they can’t talk about VR. Kinda feels like Sony told him to stay silent about it for now. It could be something significant that they want to reveal in a future showcase. Hopefully full VR support.

On the other hand it could also mean there are no plans for VR racing in GT7. I always thought that PS4/PS5 cross compatibility would interfere with its implementation, and I don’t think it’ll happen until GT8 (which may come out sooner than we think).
