That said, I was raised in Melbourne, Victoria, and there is a bit of a tradition of drowning any form of junk food (well, not sweet ones) in tomato sauce (our version of ketchup, with less sugar). Bit of a habit that never goes away.

Yes, the meat pies (with loads of ketchup) that you get at footy matches at the MCG are not an experience you forget soon!

Yeah, I like a little ketchup, a lot of mustard.

However, hot dogs pale into insignificance when you consider other great snacks, such as:

Philly Cheesesteak - enjoyed this in Philadelphia (unsurprisingly). Literally a heart-attack on a plate, this 'snack' was pretty much a day's food for me. With lots of jalapenos, excellent.

Steak-With-The-Lot, No Beetroot, No Pineapple - enjoyed pretty much all over Australia, had a top one in Apollo Bay, Vic, in March. It's a sandwich steak, with lettuce, tomato, mayo, onions, cucumber, bacon and fried egg, all wrapped in two slices of toast. Mega.

So the Australian version was what, a week's worth of food on one roll? And you called the venerable cheesesteak a heart attack?

And when were you in Philadelphia? You were a mere 30 minutes' easy drive from me.
:(

But don't you know we all hate you?

We only keep you around to fend off James1985-types.

What is your opinion? I think people who put that crap on a hot dog should be killed in the most disgusting manner possible!:odd:
At the risk of being called a smarta$$,
If the dog is hot, take him to the pet salon for a trim, and set him out more water, in the shade.
Honestly, who would put ketchup on a poor unsuspecting Labrador retriever? That's just wrong!!!:P

Actually in answer to the real question. Ketchup us for your fries.
Mustard and relish are for the frankfurter. THAT IS THE LAW!!!

Okay, for those of you who do not like ketchup/catsup (hahah, just remembered Mr. Burns in the Simpsons) on your hot dogs, obviously you haven't tried BANANA KETCHUP/CATSUP.

Don't know what that is? Well, for those who don't: it's a sauce made from bananas, not tomatoes(sp?). It's a Filipino thing, I guess. I put it on hot dogs all the time. Sometimes on pizza. MmMmMm good.

For those of you who want to try something new, try banana ketchup/catsup on your hotdogs, or pretty much on anything. There are three brands: Mafran, Jufran, and UFC. There are two different types, too: regular and hot/spicy. You can find it at your local Southeast Asian market. I live in So. Cal. so those markets are plentiful (99Ranch, Seafood City, etc.). Banana ketchup/catsup makes everything taste good. I suggest the hot/spicy ones.

I love just putting tons of tomato sauce on my hot dogs...:) Mmm...so nice.

eeww

Well, anyways, I don't mind putting a little ketchup on a dog if it's just a weiner and a piece of dry bread, sometimes I just like eating them plain on a toasted bun.
