This is actually happening. It’s not made up or exaggerated. You cannot buy a youth (defined as being intended for children 12-years old and younger) motorcycle or ATV. You can’t even buy one from a private party or your own parents.

Esentially they can't sell them anymore because they have lead in them. Yeah, kids just love chewing on the bikes. Might as well take them away!

"Well kids, now that you can't go ride ATV's with dad, time to go play video games!" :ouch:

As far as I understand it, they get a year to sort it, so the bikes are still legal for the next 12 months.

It also seems that they may get an exemption if the parts containing lead are inaccessible.

It appears that ATV and motorcycle manufacturers have been granted a reprieve from the damaging CPSC lead restrictions set to go into effect on February 10th. MotorcycleUSA’s understanding of the enforcement policy, after discussions with the CPSC representatives, includes an exemption clause if manufacturers can prove that parts containing lead are inaccessible.

A wee bit of research shows that your worst case scenario may not happen...

I watched a Judge judy case were a Person ran over someone's dog with a ATV but then it turned into "You can't let your kid ride that ATV"

Let's hope they allow the exemption sometime soon. A lot of this is getting out of hand though.
