With the Lamborghini and Bugatti news, is anyone else thinking about buying a PSP just to get a new GT fix as quickly as possible?!

It seems GT5 looms closer and closer everyday, but with nothing confirmed as of yet, I'd be lying if I said a used PSP didn't seem like a pretty good idea...

If i wouldve a PSP and could use it, i would buy both games anyway.
Anf if i wouldve the money for a PSP and could use it, i would buy it anyway.^^

Er no.

Aren't PSP's for people who have to use public transport and so use a PSP/iPOD/phone so they don't have to talk to the chav/tramp who's unfortunately choose to sit down next to them?

I bought a PSP for Gran Turismo shortly after they were released, hardly used it since and I am now just glad it will get some use.

Well unless you are a real GT FAN I'll say go for it get your PSP fix if you cant wait for the real deal . I am goin to wait for the real deal to get my fix on the real hard stuff GT5! since I consider myself to be a GT JUNKIE...

That's the reason I bought my PSP five years ago... Right now, I can't say it was worth it.

I would wait until GT Mobile is definitely out - as in you can feel it. I learnt my lesson the hard way believing Sony's release dates and pre-ordering.

Umm but buying a PSPgo on launch, along with GT Portable on launch, along with obviously getting GT5, and with GT5P and the Press Kit, doesn't that make me a bigger GT FAN than you? :sly:

Going to use my cousins one. For one week after the release, after that i have to go to the army for 9 freagin months! Don't want to >.>

Or for people to use on a long vacation (I bought mine before drive to Florida and a Hawaii trip - 10+ hours on a plane), to use as a portable photo slide show viewer on a friend's TV, to play (or remote play the PS3) when the wife steals the HDTV so she can watch the new season of Jon & Kate Plus 8, Rachael Ray, some show about a little people family, or whatever home makeover/redecorating show she finds while complaining that we don't spend time together, or to be able to Remote Play movies from the PS3 in bed without risking keeping the wife up.

But other than that, there really is no reason to own one.

Well, maybe if you love gaming in all forms and don't want to miss out on parts of a series' story like God of War or Metal Gear Solid.

But no other reasons.

Oh wait, toilet time gaming.

But that's it.

So, a "real GT Fan" wouldn't want to play all forms of GT, no matter what sized system it is on? It seems to me that a lot of people want it because they are GT junkies and don't want to miss out on any GT.

It was also on Play.com for the same date as the PSP release (I pre-ordered both together), the PSP came pretty quickly...
It has been well established by now that retail game sites do not have official release dates. This would not be a Sony release date. GT Mobile had no release date until now.

I've thought about buying a psp a few times when Ive had a long transatlantic flight, and if they had released the psp GT before last year I'd have brought one.

But now, with it so close to the real GT release I certainly wont be bothering. (Not to mention that I graduate uni in september and havent a job yet (so money will be tight!)

Chances are the next time I fly out to Canada I will end up buying it once the game has been heavily discounted.

Yep that's the sadest thing about it, besides, I just read GT PSP is coming to Europe on October 1st, my first day in Army, now that sucks!

Yes, that date is true, sadly. You won't even be able to play GT PSP.

Smuggle your PSP with the game into the army. Simple really, before you go quickly go out and buy it.:dopey:

Then once you get back, GT5 will be awaiting you!!

I bought my PSP in 2005 with the understanding that GT Mobile was releasing that year. We all know how that turned out. Realizing that the game I spent $250 to buy a PSP for would probably never come out, I waited for Sony to re-release GT1 and GT2 as PS One Classics. That also didn't happen.

So I was really happy when I found out that GT Mobile would finally see the light of day. Really happy, that is, until I heard that it would be simplified to the point where the whole concept of tuning, upgrading, and buying/selling cars as well as a deep career mode would be removed. You know, everything that makes GT great.

Regardless, I will buy GT PSP. Even if it's half the game I was expecting it to be. In anticipation for the game I bought an 8GB memory stick and a bigger battery. I was considering selling my old PSP and buying a PSP go instead but couldn't bring myself to spend another $250 for something with less features in a shinier package.

I bought a PSP when it was released so I could buy this game.

P.S. this should be in the GT Mobile section.

Had it been established 5 years ago - when the game was first available to pre-order? I don't believe so... It's only because of GT:Mobile and GT5 that retail dates have got so ridiculously optimistic. I can't remember it being this bad for GT4.

And there is an article in the post you half-read with Kaz as a source saying it would be out in April '05 (PSP was launched in September '05 in the UK here).

I don't want to buy a psp for GTpsp...I play GT for realistic driving experience with G25.

GTPSP could have any stuff, any number of cars, track, réalistic physics... playing with a controller remove all the magic of granturismo:guilty:

That is exactly what I will do. :dopey: By the way, in the very worst case, after 3 months I will be able to drive home every weekend, so-GT5 you're mine!:)

Edit: And thx for the sympathies. :)

No problem. :)

Good thing you'll be able to get your hands on GT5 at the weekends. :sly:

I knew then as I do now that Gamestop throws up random release dates that have not been announced. Whether it was well established at the time, I don't know. But whether it was or not, history has now established that they have long been doing this, which is why quoting a Play.com release date for GT on the PSP means nothing. It was not an official release date.

And there is an article in the post you half-read with Kaz as a source saying it would be out in April '05 (PSP was launched in September '05 in the UK here).
Which shows even more that Play.com was making it up, as their date (same as PSP release date) and the release window given by Yamauchi are months apart.

And yes, Yamauchi had a planned release window. The project wouldn't have been started without one. And while they did miss it (by a lot), he did not lie. There was no set release date, ever.

And while I understand that this project plan led to a lot of disappointed pre-orderers, it is a case in point why no one should ever pre-order a title that hasn't gone gold yet (meaning the disc is being printed), because there is always a chance that the game will be canceled before then. Retail stores however will take your pre-order the moment the game is confirmed to be in production because they want your business. If it is canceled they lose nothing, but if their arbitrary dates are incorrect they know they can just push the blame off on the producers and the majority of the public will buy that story.

It should also be noted that this disappointment caused by Yamauchi giving away some info in an interview is likely why GT5 news has been so quiet and why GT PSP had basically been a secret until E3.

See, PD is screwed either way. If they talk early and then fail to meet their goals people accuses them of all sort of devious things. If they keep quiet until they have some definite info that they know won't be wrong then they seem to enjoy torturing their fans.

It was not an official release date.
Ah, I wasn't aware this was the first official release date - my bad. The Play.com date would've been the same as the UK release of the PSP - obviously they won't start planning to sell a game before the console comes out. March was probably the Japanese release date.

I agree with your post.

I still think it begs the question - why should we trust Sony's release dates? I trusted Play.com who are a large, usually reliable business and they printed misleading information.

Why are Sony any different in this respect? Who's to say that a company which mislead the public by advertising a game 4 years ago (at E3) to boost sales of their new console won't do it again? They've now released an exact date so we should all start plundering money into their new handheld (again)?...
