You could always hit pause, take a break, then back at it. I could never do the 24hr races in gt5. From what I've read, some of the races in ac career go as long as 45 laps!
I am nearly at the end of career mode and the longest race I have encountered is 35 laps at Mugello. It looks like they (Kunos) want about 70min races.
I am using the "I am sick of sitting here and my bum hurts" strategy of hitting "Pause" and walking away for a while. It works well, except, make sure the PS4 doesn't enter sleep mode and pause the game at the beginning of a long straight so you have time to re-acclimatise yourself when you sit down again.
TIP: When doing these races I have used Fuel Use <OFF> and Tyre Wear <OFF> so there is no need to worry about either and there is still no way to work out fuel consumption unless you physically check it yourself :-( The AI will pit twice in these races always handing you an easy win, even though at the start it looks like they may get away from you. Hit the front and just stay there ;-)
Tip#2 I have also discovered if you get board and start driving like an idiot (yes I got very board and was a long way out front) the game Disqualified me and put me back into the pits with the message "Disqualified for erratic driving"!!! I was at Spa and seeing how far I could cut corners and how radical I could drift before the game got upset. Except it was me that got upset and I had to restart the race :-(
Tip#3, watch out for the AI when you lap them. They have no idea about Blue Flags and not ramming the lead car off the track when it is lapping them >:-(
Also, WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY? Do we have to sit in the pits and wait for all the AI to cross the finish line. This can take up to nearly a full lap of the circuit you are at :-(
Just so I understand this, are you saying that these long career races are completely uncompetitive? If so, what on earth is the point of doing them?!
You can try and turn the difficulty level up.
My main point is the the AI is so random and inconsistent in it's abilities. It can be almost unbeatable on easy yet I have won some special events on Alien, in an untuned car, at the first attempt.
In these endurance races I have come from Silvertstone on easy where I have lapped the field to Mugello where I have won by only 20 seconds (thanks to the AI pitting) and have had to try fairly hard (mind you it was only once). Again, depending on car. But generally, on easy, it is ridiculously easy to get a win in these endurance races. So much so, I now put the car's gearbox on Auto, put ABS ON and Stability control at 100% and just drive around one handed and one footed ;-) I do not even bother to do practice or qualifying either because Kunos gives you the tune and you are just repeating the same races over and over and over and over ad nauseum :-( I think I have got about another 5 to do and I have done the lot.
Before anyone asks why I do it on easy it is quite simple. There are 7 races, 10 points per win and you must get 60 points to win the series. So if you get less than 1st in any race you must then do the 7th race and spend another hour of your life. Or, worst case scenario you get a couple of minor placings and you have to repeat the entire series. At this point of time I am driving to beat a game, not driving so much so for pleasure.
I must say one thing though, geez, I know these tracks well and where the bumps are and the curbs I can/can't run ;-)
I haven't done any proper endurance races yet but I often do 6 lap races on hard and can be fighting for the lead during those 6 laps, so therefore if I did a 20 or 30 lap race would I still get to the front of the pack in 6/7 laps and be on my own for the remainder? That'd get pretty boring to me.OK. But again, I would ask why do them at all? Is it just a "beat the game" thing? Surely there are better things to do in life?!
I haven't even looked at career mode yet. I've tried a variety of cars on a variety of tracks in Hot Lap mode. I've now been focussing on the Lotus 49, which to me represents a sort of high point in F1 racing - high performance, but very visceral. I started running Quick Races at Spa in Easy. At first I found it hard to complete a race without crashing the car at some point. After a while I could move up from the back of the grid & into first place within 2 or 3 laps, after which I was 3 - 4 seconds faster than any of the AI cars. So I switched to Race Weekend on Hard where I was able to qualify in 3rd place & was running laps pretty close to the fastest AI cars. However, I have not managed to win a (8 lap) race yet, as invariably I screw up & stuff the car at some point. I can see that with a little more practice I will be able to lap faster than the AI & may be able to move up to "Alien" ( a ridiculously un-sim designation IMO).
So far, the AI level - at Spa, in a Lotus 49 - seems pretty rational & well-graduated. However, I realize that this may not be the case with all tracks/cars.
OK. But again, I would ask why do them at all? Is it just a "beat the game" thing?
For the record, I hardly ever watch TV I would prefer to be engaged by the screen ;-)Surely there are better things to do in life?!
You're engaged by putting stability control to 100% and enabling every other aid you can think of so you can run laps one handed while on Easy mode? But hey, at least you can tell everybody how you got that platinum trophy the first week you had the game!! Sweet...![]()
I agree that the Career Mode is boring. That's why I don't bother with it. I guess I just found it strange someone would spend time on something so obviously boring to them, just so they can say "I got the Platinum trophy!", or whatever it's called. If it were like GT6's Career Mode where you need to do Career Mode to unlock certain things, or whatever, then I could understand. Anyway, it is your free time and I have no right telling another person how they should spend their time. I shouldn't have said what I did...You are welcome to try it on Alien if you like and the claim the bragging rights.
I will point out to you that the career mode in this game is as boring as boring can get. Most of it you run the same cars at the same tracks in the same order, over and over again. I sometimes think I would be better off watching Big Brother or Survivor ;-)
I should point out that the special events are different. They all need to be completed on Alien and I think this is where the real challenges will be. Except, with the inconsistent AI I fear some events may be impossible.
