Lap times

I’ve been sim racing for a few years and I’m still 2-ish Sec off of the fastest drivers out there depending on the track. Obviously the higher you get up there the more challenging it is to shave off the next bits of time.

It’s not too bad though it places me in B/S and I have competitive races on that level so fairly happy with it.

I may have peaked a little but I have to try to enjoy my mediocrity!

The other thing I've done is noted the sector times from fast qualifying videos to compare mine... I find it easier to work on individual sectors, knowing how much time can be gained, rather than just the whole lap. I've been surprised also that I was not as slow in some sectors as I thought, but way slower in others.
Age is also a major factor -- I accept that being 46 years old, I will never be as fast as twenty-somethings! ;)

Wait until you hit over 60!

The first Gran Turismo had two booklets, one about the game, the other was a driving manual... one line I've never forgotten is "it is more important to go fast in the fast parts than it is to go fast in the slow parts." They really should include a PDF copy for everyone.

For those with Apple devices, the GT6 version of Beyond the Apex can still be found on the App Store and it is free! ;)

Most GTS players will have to accept that they may never win a race online. That applies to me and I am fine with it. My best finish so far is a 5th place (maybe twice, can't remember), & I'm very happy with that. I'm an average to sometimes marginally above average driver (on occasion pretty terrible with too many mistakes!) and my self imposed challenge is just to try to finish in the middle or in the top half of the field. If I can better my 5th place finish one day I'll be very happy. To me I don't have to win, I'm just striving to be better than I am atm and of course having a lot of fun.
It was humbling to be lapped by an alien the other day, and eye opening as to how wickedly talented some drivers are. Just like irl I suppose.

@razzzpkr

If you're willing to upload video of your best lap to YouTube, I can tell you exactly where you're going wrong. I need to see commitment from you first though.

Its easy: Break smooth - hit the apex - go on throttle early withoot oversteering and without wheelspin... if u master that, then u can get fast very fast...

I am Sim Racing around 12 years now and iam still not the best or fastest, but i try, i try everytime very hard to be competitiv.
If u try and try and try, find ur own style of driving, finding out how U get fast - so some day u will hit top times, maybe not the fastest but not only fast matters..also consistently driving laptimes.

Pls dont think that u start simracing and u will hit the alien times up there..not even me after 12 years hitting them. Talent and tons of training is all that matters mate.

I hope i could explain, how i see it, good enough in english :/

I know the feeling hehe. I’ve gotten a couple of 2nd places but there’s always that one guy who is faster by a mile!

That being said there’s a lot of good battling to be had near midpack at least when it’s pretty clean!

the problem is that right now, if you qualify from mid to lower grid position, is hard to be consistent because of the destruction derby that is normally seen down there. sometimes even qualifying at top grid positions if you slip a little bit, the angry horde comes at you, and in a second you are 12th... lol

that's why is critical to have better lap times...

"if you slip a little bit, the angry horde comes at you" HAHAHAHAHA so true

If you have become consistent in your lap times with a given car & track combo, turn off assists. For example, ASM is worth at least 0.2 seconds per lap on the shortest of ovals.

That booklet actually hurt my driving style to this day. It told me that if you apply your brakes 100%, then you've used up 100% of your tires traction, so there was nothing left to turn with. I took that advice and ran with it, the result was I never learned how to trail brake, and Im only just now trying to incorporate it in my driving. I noticed one of the quickest guys in the Americas, ORMA_Snow, uses trail braking heavily.

Trailbraking is indeed very important to keep a little weight on the front wheels for extra traction at turn in.

Hi guys I’m still a amateur but I’m trying to improve it daily

I’ve a question about the driving option

Asm
Countersteering
Abs

Do they affect the speed of the car drastically?

My traction control is most of the time on 0 and the3 driving options are on as well.

I’m playing with a controller

Abs I wanna let on weak but which option decrease my lap time ? Thanks for helping me out her

1 43.8 at interlagos and I think i can get under 1 43 but that is it. It is a good time? Except Alien top 10 time
I’m currently just under 1.43 at interlagos, 1.42.8 something and I feel like that’s pretty good. I’m usually between 1st and 3rd starting positstion. You gain a lot in that first and third turn and you can gain lots of small time on all turns obviously. Especially the small hairpin. Also the final turn before the straight once you exit, it’s actually a little faster to stay a little wide and then cut towards the final apex where the track gets more even. Like the dude above mentioned, try to keep your turns as straight and as smooth as you can. The faster you can get back to center and on the gas the better. Also during a full throttle turn try not to create too much g force by swirving or changing lanes. Make every move as smooth as possible.

Edited for spelling
