The other thing I've done is noted the sector times from fast qualifying videos to compare mine... I find it easier to work on individual sectors, knowing how much time can be gained, rather than just the whole lap. I've been surprised also that I was not as slow in some sectors as I thought, but way slower in others.
Age is also a major factor -- I accept that being 46 years old, I will never be as fast as twenty-somethings!![]()
The first Gran Turismo had two booklets, one about the game, the other was a driving manual... one line I've never forgotten is "it is more important to go fast in the fast parts than it is to go fast in the slow parts." They really should include a PDF copy for everyone.
Most GTS players will have to accept that they may never win a race online. That applies to me and I am fine with it. My best finish so far is a 5th place (maybe twice, can't remember), & I'm very happy with that. I'm an average to sometimes marginally above average driver (on occasion pretty terrible with too many mistakes!) and my self imposed challenge is just to try to finish in the middle or in the top half of the field. If I can better my 5th place finish one day I'll be very happy. To me I don't have to win, I'm just striving to be better than I am atm and of course having a lot of fun.
It was humbling to be lapped by an alien the other day, and eye opening as to how wickedly talented some drivers are. Just like irl I suppose.
the problem is that right now, if you qualify from mid to lower grid position, is hard to be consistent because of the destruction derby that is normally seen down there. sometimes even qualifying at top grid positions if you slip a little bit, the angry horde comes at you, and in a second you are 12th... lol
that's why is critical to have better lap times...

If you have become consistent in your lap times with a given car & track combo, turn off assists. For example, ASM is worth at least 0.2 seconds per lap on the shortest of ovals.
Trailbraking is indeed very important to keep a little weight on the front wheels for extra traction at turn in.That booklet actually hurt my driving style to this day. It told me that if you apply your brakes 100%, then you've used up 100% of your tires traction, so there was nothing left to turn with. I took that advice and ran with it, the result was I never learned how to trail brake, and Im only just now trying to incorporate it in my driving. I noticed one of the quickest guys in the Americas, ORMA_Snow, uses trail braking heavily.
I’m currently just under 1.43 at interlagos, 1.42.8 something and I feel like that’s pretty good. I’m usually between 1st and 3rd starting positstion. You gain a lot in that first and third turn and you can gain lots of small time on all turns obviously. Especially the small hairpin. Also the final turn before the straight once you exit, it’s actually a little faster to stay a little wide and then cut towards the final apex where the track gets more even. Like the dude above mentioned, try to keep your turns as straight and as smooth as you can. The faster you can get back to center and on the gas the better. Also during a full throttle turn try not to create too much g force by swirving or changing lanes. Make every move as smooth as possible.1 43.8 at interlagos and I think i can get under 1 43 but that is it. It is a good time? Except Alien top 10 time
why is the time trial section empty for all car's from N100- GR.1. No times on the leaderboards, Why is that ??
