Laptop shopping: First thoughts after a round of Crysis

You just need to install drivers to have the usb 3.0 functionality. His laptop already came with the drivers installed.

Yes, you read that correct. I've used it for a long time now and I love and praise it for its user-friendly-ness and simplicity while still holding onto a nice lay-out. Firefox is still the most user friendly browser, but for some reason I like Safari better, and IE is not even an option to start talking about.

You should try Google Chrome (Even if it thinks Google is a misspelt word LOL) it's super quick and it's got all the important add-ons now like Adblock.

I'm not going to create a lengthy discussion here. But the ad-block add-on only hides the adds but doesn't stop you downloading them. So it still slows down browsing a little. Still a better solution than Safari though, it just doesn't work as well as the Firefox extension.

So I'm playing Crysis on the ultra settings on this nifty ASUS. FPS is hovering between 15-20 FPS, but once the sun is at its highest point and all that beautiful lighting shines through, I'm not hitting anything above 15 FPS I'm guessing. It's playable, but it's also tweak-able. I was perfectly happy with the high settings, but those sunrays look so good. I'll be playing around with the settings to retain the overall feel of the highest settings, yet hide some things you don't notice. Of course I'm not using anti-aliasing, that would absolutely kill my framerate, also on high settings. On high settings I'm averaging 27 FPS according to Crysis' own benchmark, which is very smooth and just perfect for my own tastes.

But I just know I can customize it to look better than high settings, yet not run as slow as ultra settings. I've also read Crysis: Warhead looks even better, yet runs also smoother. Sounds promising!

But those graphics: God almighty

You should try the Just Cause 2 demo and take a look at the oceans. They are beautiful. You can install tools like Speedfan and Speccy to monitor your hardware and even look at the temperatures in your laptop. You should also take a look at CCleaner and Defraggler to keep your computer clean of any unneeded files and fragmented files. You can also use Recuva to restore a file you permanently deleted. I also like the avast anti-virus since it works good and in not in the way like a good amount of anti-virus.

Already have avast and CCleaner, have used them for years on my Dell and always loved them 👍

Oh... thanks for the info but for me Chrome (4.0) is still noticeably quicker than Firefox (3.6) regardless.
