Latest info on GT5

YZF thats also old news/picutre...There is movie where you can see onboard view for a short time, but I dont find that movie...

Right...I would guess its like an assembly line. It would be resonable to set goals like having 3 to 4 cars done per week.

It also seems like we are lacking with any new information. Its been since early December that we have even had a new screen shot.:grumpy:

thats true. from other games we get new screenies like every 2-3 weeks...looking at CRYSIS right now.

hope PD comes with some new news :)

If I recall, the movie was a Lancer on a snow track. While the idea of an interior view is old, I believe this is a new picture. This is the first time I've seen that picture, at any rate.

The movie was cam-shot from TGS '05, it should be up on GameTrailers. It's a general-purpose GTHD trailer, using only two "GT5-level" car models, otherwise using GT4 tracks and such. There's only one brief shot of the interior, about midway through the video.

Sorry for stepping in. Going back to the interior picture of the Ferrari. It also shows PD is taking into consideration that the steering wheel is either on the left or right of most cars out there. Something that hasn't been addressed in previous GT games. I believe for all of us to enjoy Gran Turismo 5 there's need to be more PS3. My thoughts are Gran Turismo 5 will be a "world wide" release next year in May 2008. By that time everyone should be able to locate a PS3, HDTV, and an internet connection worthy of enjoying what Kaz started out with Gran Turismo 1. Again sorry for stepping in and keeping this as short as possible. I could have added more, but.....

Do yourself a favour and read everything. We don't know yet.

I'm just going to insert what every other editor and journalist have stated.

About 98 % true.

I just hope that this will be a very small addition to the game and not something that will hinder the overall game play.

All that microtransaction stuff was taken back to the drawing board when GT:HD was cancelled. Sure additional downloads probably will cost real money, but they do for XB360 games too, as for how it will all work out, that is unknown, neither Sony nor PD have confirmed anything relating that to GT5 yet. They have said that GT5 will need to be a packaged product which means content on the disk, unlick GT:HD was planned. How the Sony store will work into the final game is unknown.

Previous games never had an interior view, so it didn't matter. All racing views were in the center of the car, as they should be for any non-interior view. And, if you watch the replays, you'll find that the driver IS on the correct side of whatever car he's driving. Sometimes on the left, sometimes on the right.

Just one question, though... if only "most" of the cars out there have wheels on the left or right, where do the rest of them have it? There are only a tiny handful of cars out there with center-mounted wheels, is that what you're referring to?

They have actually considered the placement of the steeringwheel earlier too! Do acouple of open tops in photomode in GT4 and see for yourself!

No I was actually referring to the handling of the car with respect to the where the driver is. In other words the view you have as you're driving. Doesn't make sense does it? Ex: I like driving the Castrol Supra and Dodge Viper Oreca. As I'm approaching different corners it seems that the distance between my view and the inside corner is the same weather I'm turning right or left. The test with the cones and the BMW come to mind. Also yes I know I left out cars which have center mounted steering ie Formula One and the the Lemans cars. I was hoping to keep the post short. Sorry again. My thoughts are if this is true with the driver view then PD will need additional time to work every car. Also the feel that you get if you were sitting on either side of the car. My thought, Gran Turismo 5 will be a world wide release and the date is May 2008. Sorry for the late response.

Ah,yes! You are talking about a cockpit view, wich is non existent in GT4! The bumpercam is mounted in the center of the front bumber.
I totally agree with you!

Minor correction. Not to pick at nits, but LeMans LMP cars do not have center mounted steering.

From 2006 Petit LeMans. (click for full size)

As you can see, they are side-mounted. And as can be seen on the red and white #15 car some use the passenger side headrest as air intake to help increase intake pressure and relieve drag. You can almost see this also being done on the red and yellow #7 Porsche Spyder in the background. I have many other examples in my gallery.

Anyway, as Team666 said there is no cockpit view in GT5, so you basically have a center mounted bumper cam. It would be nice if they made all the views slightly off of center to replicate the driver's seat, even in the chase cam, but if they do a cockpit view it will be nice.

Of course if you have a cockpit view I wonder if they would have it so Americans could buy the American version of a foreign car and have the driver's seat on the left or vice versa. Of course, it really shouldn't matter as a good driver can drive both ways.

That's where the Dyson crashed isnt it?

Sorry guys. I typed a little too fast not realizing my error. Hey at least it got a nice photo posted. I think I'll keep it. LATER

The virtual racing life... this is something that came to me last year and I posted about a few times. Thank God Kazunori-dono is a visionary, and finally has a system in which ambitious dreams can be brought to life.

When I became familiar with Gran Turismo back with GT2, and saw where Kaz was wanting to go, I began to think like him of what the ultimate racing game would be. It took a few years, but I realized that with a sufficiently powerful system, you should be able to recreate the automotive world in some form or fashion. Just model enough cars, enough tracks, think of all the ways racing plays out in the world, and work out the rules to your satisfaction.

Forza gives us a taste of what's possible. It's a lot smaller microcosm of racing than Gran Turismo, but it has many of the elements needed to realize the vision.
  • The GT-like range of cars from wimpy daily drivers to purpose built GT Class race cars
  • A comprehensive modification system, including aerodynamic bodykits
  • A paint shop complete with decals, giving you the power to create eye-popping racing liveries
  • That GT-like racing structure which takes you from hobbyist levels up to full bore professional racing
But like the previous Gran Turismos, it stuck with the established GT Mode gameplay, where progress through the game was oriented entirely towards unlocking further cars, tracks and racing levels. It's an arcadey reflection of the racing world which Toca does a bit better. Then again, it's not a bad structure for casual racers, and it looks like they're going to be following the formula with few tweaks for Forza 2 outside of an experience point system which rewards using the same car more than jumping from car to car, an idea that makes me nervous. If they make a car perform better or easier the more you stick with it, that's just nutty, but we'll see what they're getting at when it gets closer to release.

Anyway, with GT5, Kaz finally has a system with very few limits. Certainly very few graphic ones as the GT HD demo proves. He has the chance to give us a game which will please arcade funseekers and serious sim enthusiasts. More than that, he can give us a game which will allow us to realize our dreams of a virtual racing life. Not many of us can afford or have the talent to pursue a racing career, but Gran Turismo 5 can give us that luxury. Kaz and the lads have the talent, and the PS3 has the power. GT5 can't show up too soon for me.

/\/\/\ nope true its the one game that i have "true" excitement for ill have too get a ps3 when it comes out probably early 2009 in my books :indiff: thats why i got an Xbox so i can enjoy Forza( and project gotham and GTR) as it is in principle very similar to GT but in another way its seems very different :scared:
