That's what I was meaning by additional bracing to stiffen up the front end after removing some of the inner wing. If the rules don't allow it that's a shame.

Great progress with the rebuild :) look forward to more racing pics.

Yes if a roll bar up front cant be added then this is similar to what I was talking about. Just some sort of upper bracing to keep the car from folding in like a tin can again.

As a native of Finland and mini owner you might be able to help me :) I'm trying to find some 10, 12 or 13 inch snow/ice rally tyres.

Have you used them before on your mini or do you know where you'd buy then?

Sadly I can't post any link as I don't really know where you can buy them, but I can ask it from a guy that has bought ice/snow rally tyres to his Mini.

That would be great if you could ask :) Thank you.

@coop500 I have asked about ice rally tyres for Minis and only answers that I got are small companies that are located in Finland. I already checked and found out that another of them doesn't have any website.

Cheers for checking anyways. I'll need to look in more detail next year.

I've found loads of prestudded 15 inch tyres but nothing smaller.

Fantastic! Looks like so much fun.

What was up with the miss shift about half way through? Sounded like it didn't want to go into 4th.

The video looked so much like Gran Turismo I kept looking in the upper left corner of the map showing the position of the goblin. :)

My left foot made a mistake, that's all.

I'm glad I don't have to shift much for Rallycross. One car length after the start line I shift into second and stay there till the end.

But then again shifting is such a large part of racing I kinda miss it.

The mini racing you do looks like the most fun you can have on tarmac. I'm jealous.

One of these days I'll fulfill my dream and acquire a Type 1 Beetle. That's all your Mini ever reminds me of. Love the car and the video!

Usually when making an update, I would post some pictures or even an onboard video, but this time I won't. Despite actually being at the track ready for a race just two days ago, I haven't got any pictures of the Mini. I can't say I'm pleased by the reason though.

The preparing for the weekend started on Wednesday, when we ran the engine, after we fixed a slight water leak, which appeared to be just a minor issue, at that time, especially as the engine ran well and didn't leak anything after it. It looked fine, until we started to load the car to the trailer on Thursday, and the engine first refused to start and then started only on two cylinders. Despite this we loaded the car to the trailer and headed to Botniaring, as replacing the head gasket doesn't take that long with the A-Series engine, and there was a chance it was simply an electrical problem, because there wasn't that much time to make sure, as the track is still 400 km away, and it was better to get there before the place we were supposed to sleep in near the track closed its reception.

On Friday, the head was first taken off and then put back, with the gasket being replaced. This didn't work, so we took the head off again and replaced it with another one. Now the head was good, but when I drove around the track, the engine started to smoke, first only slightly, but after I got past the pit entrance, the smoke begun to fill the cabin and made me stop on a tarmac runoff area.

After the car was towed back to the pits, turned out that the piston number 4 had busted. And trying to fix that is simply too big of a job to do at the track, so we packed our tools and the car and headed back home.

Yep. That all sounds far too familiar :(

Hope you get it sorted soon enough 👍

A short update regarding the engine rebuild.

It has been taken out of the car and to another garage closer to the house and the pistons and other parts have been taken out of the block.

The block has also been in citric acid containing water to remove the aluminium left to the combustion chamber by the busted piston.

New pistons have arrived and are ready to be put in.

And here's a picture of the reason for it.
