Take Two Reveals New GTA Titles, Financials
Liberty City Stories is PS2-bound and Xbox 360 gets a brand new game.
by David Adams

January 5, 2006 - A financial update from Take Two Games not only announced preliminary fiscal 2005 results today, but -- as is often the case in such reports -- revealed some tasty new titles and game delays for the year ahead.

Perhaps most significant to gamers is the revelation that Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories will come to PlayStation 2 after enjoying its initial life on the PSP. The PS2 version is expected in the company's second quarter, which covers February through April. Rockstar's hardly neglecting Sony's portable system, of course -- the company confirmed a second GTA games is coming to PSP, along with another new title for the platform.

Along with thug action, Rockstar will create an Xbox 360 game based on a new brand, as well as a sequel to an existing Rockstar property -- for as-yet-unannounced platforms. Players can also expect to see NBA 2K7 on multiple systems sometime in the near future, and all-new Family Feud game as well.

With the good news come a few delays. College Hoops 2K6 for X360 and Top Spin 2 for X360, Nintendo DS, and Game Boy Advance will now arrive in the company's second quarter.

Citing continuing uncertainty as the game industry transitions to a new console generation, Take Two is taking a humble stance in its financial outlook. The company now expects $230 to $250 million in net sales for its first 2006 quarter. Take Two is not offering guidance for all of 2006, but now expects revenue and earnings "significantly below" previous guidance and analyst estimates.

Take Two announced preliminary and unaudited financial results of $1.2 billion in net sales for fiscal 2005, ended October 31, 2005. The company is reporting a preliminary $308 million in net sales for Q4 2005.

"Clearly, the holiday season did not live up to anyone's expectations," commented president and CEO Paul Eibeler. "While it is difficult to assess the impact of the hardware transition on our industry in 2006, we remain confident in the resilience and future prospects of Take-Two and the global video game business. We have assembled some of the industry's best development capabilities supported by strong financial resources, and we expect to capture market share in an expanding Xbox 360 installed base and from the anticipated introduction of the PlayStation 3 later this year."

Anyone has more details about it?

I have the original, and it's good, probably the best for PSP right now but it could be a lot better if the controls were better. With the PSP and it's only (and very uncomfortable IMO) analog stick, it's kind of hard to control. Sniping is a nightmare too.

The PS2 version will probably be better.

I read about this yesterday. I wonder what they are going to do in terms of improvements… For such a small area (compared to SA) I’d expect better graphics and better AI. Of course, they mustn’t be any loading times when going from one island to the other like there was in GTAIII (I haven’t played LCS so I’m not sure if the PSP version has them).

Excellent--- I was considering getting a PSP just for that game--- Liberty City is great setting for a GTA.... I imagine it will be out for xbox and PC in the fall....

Now.... please, please, please.... use the VC game engine..... I want to stunt on a bike in LC, with VC physics..... No SA physics please....

 But the SA physics are so much better for driving!

There are, and they're quite long IMO, but at least it's only when chainging island, which doesn't happen very often.

This concerns me though... sounds like they aren't confident of being able to release GTA4 on time next fall-- and how this might affect their sales...

How big is the map on LCS?

Surely it will have to be expanded for the PS2 version. There's only so much detail they can add and not expand the overall area.

It's the same map as GTA 3, with some differences, like some buildings who are being built and some other things but it's very similar.

Then it definetley needs some expansion, though by no means to the scale of GTA:SA

Compared to SA, yes. But, I don’t mind – as long as there are no loading times between islands and the AI and graphics are stepped up a few notches!

I never played GTA 3 much. Is the map so small?

Its big enough--- LC fells bigger then it actually is IMO-- SA is bigger yes but it has alot of empty space and unused... bigger isn't necessarily better and IMO SA is the weak link in the GTA3 series (VC being GTA 3.1 and SA being GTA 3.2)-- I;m looking forward to returning to Liberty city...

I was so pissed when this was only released on PSP..I am glad its going to be coming out on the PS2...I'll buy it on first day out fo sho

I hope it doesn't have full price ($50).

Edit : I'll read somw reviews and then I'll think if it's worth to buy it.

Awesome news, that was the only game on PSP that caught my interest but wasnt enough for me to go buy one. Now I dont have to.

Yep, LC always felt much bigger than it actually was. By far the best map out of any game – especially Portland! That island was alot of fun. :D

Almost makes me want to install GTA3 again…

It wouldnt be too hard for take two to make LCS would it for the ps2? Its not like their starting from scratch, they've got a story to work with and im sure they know the game would sell...

Brilliant, I'll definitely get this game. LCS was one of the reasons I wanted a PSP so much, but I didn't want to fork out $400. But now that this game is coming to PS2, I won't have to!!
Will the fun multiplayer modes on the PSP version make it onto the PS2?

This is great news, I was considering buying a PSP for this. Glad I didn't waste the money then.

This sounds like pretty cool news. I like the idea of a new PS2 GTA game, taking Liberty City and using the SA graphics engine combined with helicopters, bikes and a whole array of missions and a new protagonist. It'd be nice if they took the basic Liberty City from GTA3 and gave it a nice new graphical makeover and maybe stretched it out a new bit to make for a bit bigger map.

I'd definitely buy this game if it comes out for PS2.
