LFS works flawless in Wine!! Awesome! BUT... it sucks driving with a mouse, and I can't figure out how to get LFS to recognize my old Sidewinder wheel. The joystick calibrator recognizes all axes properly, but in LFS - nothing. :(

I have yet to boot into Linux with all my new hardware.

Oh boy...

AMD 64 3400 Venice 2.2 ghz
Asus Micro ATX mobo
Freetech Geforce 6200 mobo, unlocked to 8 pipes, core clock at 400, memory at 550.

My old comp got 900 on 3DMark03...

4,593 marks.

Still probably doesn't match someone's 15,000 score or something. Only 512MB of DDR266 RAM here. I will have 1GB DDR400, probably Corsair, soon.

EDIT: Guess a reinstall of 6.10 is in order for me.

Nice! 👍

I'm thinking of upgrading something but I dunno what. I'm thinking ram, but I'm not sure. Here's my specs:

Intel Pentium 4 1.8 gHz
512mb ram (I think)
GeForce 6200GT.
No idea what motherboard I got.

I'd go for a ~3Ghz P4, or maybe a Pentium D if your motherboard has support for LGA 775?

Ahhh!!! KDE ****ing Rock!!!

I can't wait for KDE4. I know it won't be as amazing as everyone is saying, but it's something new. I've been a fan of GNOME for a long time, but I might make the switch when it is released.

How can I find out if my motherboard supports it?

Oh, and by the way. The issue I'm trying to solve is that everything gets very slow when adding alot (2k+) of musicfiles into amarok, or entering a site with lots of Youtube vids , for example.

find out what mobo you have and google it. you should find specs like CPU Socket Type, DIMM slots, expansion slots. All those goodies.

If it's a P4 1.8ghz, it's probably Socket 478. May as well get a new mobo and CPU.

Is your video card PCI x16? I would assume not... but if it's PCI, then maybe you could grab the bundle I got off Newegg. $137 for a AMD 3400+, Asus A8R-MX mobo, and Freetech (Actually a Winfast in a Leadtek box) Geforce 6200 PCI x16. I have it unlocked to 8 pipes and it's at 600mhz core and 671 memory on stock cooling. At max, my Core is at 100F and my CPU temp is at 85F.

My friend's Celeron D 2.8ghz idles at 115F. I think he needs new thermal. AS5!

Hi i'm reasonably new to linux and have a dual boot setup with xp and ubuntu (edgy eft i think, whatever the latest version is) using grub 1.5. i was just wondering if you guys knew how to setup wireless on it using ndiswrapper with a linksys WUSB54 ver 2

I've been trying for ages but i cant seem to get the drivers loaded and its driving me mad. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks A7X

Edit: zoxxy try using a small program called cpu-z it will give you all the specs of your machine including your socket type and processor type eg. P4 northwood or prescott.

Hey A7X,

Have you tried Ubuntu Forums? I'm sure the issue has been brought up before over there.

Unfortunately (or fortunately?), I haven't had to deal with wireless while using Ubuntu. Actually, I haven't dealt with wireless period, so my knowledge on the subject is lacking. If I ever run into a solution at Ubuntu Forums, I'll be sure to let you know. 👍

yeh i did have a look but their way above my level. i can get the driver loaded but when i run the check driver command it says bad or invalid driver (can't remember which). i just dont quite no what to do. i have tries using two different drivers aswel but to no avail. i'l have another look and let you know how i get on. Thanks

Well, turns out the computer I bought came with a crappy unknown linux version. I formatted it and intalled Win XP, which I'm using right now.

But I decided to try Kurumin 6.1, so I'm downloading it. I also installed my 200GB drive and dvd burner on the computer, all I need now is more RAM! :)

I did alot of searching for getting my wireless to work flawlessly, but I got a D-Link router with a Zyxel modem, so I guess that it isn't the same type as yours. I use some program that emulates Windows somehow to get "Win-modems" working. Do a search on the Ubuntu Forums, 'cause this is a common subject.
