Livery editor - nope, but what if...

I don't think we will see a livery editor as we all would expect based on a certain competitors take on it... But I do think PD is considering more ways to make cars unique... So I would propose something different, more inline with what PD might do as they don't copy features from other games... Or even okay them for all I know... So how about one or both of the suggestions;

Livery shop - a place where you can choose from several different liveries to apply to your base cars. They could be fantasy or real world but enough to field a unique grid of cars and add more variety to the extremely plain base models.

Sticker shop - a place where we can select a series of already licensed sponsor decals and size them to apply to a car. Choose from base colors and styles and if need be just have them mirror on both sides.

Both of these options would be a lot of work for PD (but much less than a full blown paint shop) but they have proven they are willing to work harder more than smarter quite a few times.

It would also be very hard to make cars look silly, and I would assume that is a reason Kaz isn't prioritizing it.

Note, these are just suggestions for simpler features that could add a lot to unique aesthetic customization and seem more practical in what PD might do vs copying a competitors rather robust take on the feature.

We have all seen the base model Megan with Castrol stickers on the front defuser in a trailer, stickers that aren't on the actual in car model so perhaps something is in the works... Not to mention the 15th cars having a generic livery already...

Thoughts?

Edit: the point of this thread is to attempt to rally around something PD might actually be able to achieve in a shorter period of time and not assume that Forza editors is the minimum expectation of such a feature. The pristine cars in GT 6 are a bit clinical and boring... Makes me look at people who show up with a certain car as all the same person...

Anything is better than what we have. Yeah I like these ideas, but it's now 2014 and not having a full blown livery editor and just giving us something like that would be embarrassing. The problem is we don't actually know why we haven't been getting a livery editor. There's no communication on the subject. So we are just grasping tree limbs on the way down trying to justify getting any feature close to a livery editor. And the longer it takes the more embarrassing it becomes for PD since we have been asking for years. Then they only give us a sad excuse for exterior options, ugly and limited kits and act like that will fulfill our creation side. Anyways I like your idea and I'm sure we would all be happy with any type of upgrade, but at this point anything less is kind of a slap in the face. It's not like they haven't had years of suggestions and plenty of time to work on it. But at the end of the day we get a... (insert stupid feature here)

i remember in the first NFS most wanted they had a really good sticker system. it was kind of like, you could put four stickers on each door, two on on each window, and some on the bonnet. they were mostly legitimate companies awell. the good part was is wasnt like, ok heres a sticker now put it somewhere, it had designated spots for each sticker, so they didnt end up looking stupid, they looked professional! and you could also change the stickers from being black or white! if GT had this system, it would be awesome!

A text editor is likely one of the last things they would do considering the need for moderators.

This would be as much work (or even more) for PD than a full blown livery editor. With a full livery editor it's just basic geometric shapes layered together by the user. Your idea would mean PD would have to do all the livery and sticker designing themselves.

Not necessarily.

This discussion is several years old now, and way back in the day, I suggested that a quick and easy tool would be a series of templates for each car, with pattern areas that could be filled in with different colors. Manufacturer decals would be provided, large ones for main sponsor, and smaller ones for secondary sponsors. Window banners would host race promoters, as would places on number plates of different types. There would be places on the car and windows for race car numbers and your driver name(s). I suggested this though as an aid to those who lacked the skills to use the full blown Livery Editor, and this is the very least we should get. At some point, we should get a Forza-like livery creation tool, and Race Mod for all or almost all of the cars.

Well, they said they would make the customization expanded, right?
As it is now it's pretty similar to GT5 so I think we can expect something here. Maybe not a fully customizable livery but putting stripes on the car should be pretty simple to implement I think.

Is it just me or does it seem that Kaz (and/or PD) is totally against the idea of an editor?

They seem to be against the idea of users having much creative control in the game.
It's Kaz's game. He wants his vision to be seen through the game and doesn't want us to muck it up with our silliness.

It's not really expanded from GT5. They gave us more wheel options(and screwed it up big time at that) and took away ability to race mod new(any) cars.
But...this will all be fixed with updates. I'm sure Kaz will deliver on all his promises.

I think it's just you. He even proposed the idea back in a 2006 presentation.

That really would be a slap in the face.

Livery editor no
I'm kind of in agreement with you. From what I've seen, its 25% good and 75% hideous.

OK lets all drive around looking like this.

I really think the Forza editor should be the minimum expectation, unless they allow you to import your own corporate sponsor decals. Yes, it would allow a bit more differentiation, but not much actual creativity, and one couldn't, for example, advertise one's own organization.

Something I could see easily being implemented is adding stripes - I mean, can't you already give certain MX-5s/Miatas stripes with specific body modifications? What if they implemented a way to add those stripes plus others on any car, and then you could paint the main body, and the stripes separately. Maybe even have options like in NFS Undergound and MotorStorm Apocalypse where there were different parts of the livery that could be painted separately. Even just the ability to paint the standard stripes on say a Camaro or Viper, or the separate panel colors on the Veyron.

Sure. Why not? No worse than Gold Chrome with Passionate Pink wheels.
I'm in 100% agreement with you on that. Its a matter of choice. Now imagine that same hot pink with those pretty stickers.

Basic black with the logo in my avatar (colored in of course, gotta get round to that), offset, on the hood. And another one on the back end. That'll do nicely.
