Livery editor - nope, but what if...

I think it's just you. He even proposed the idea back in a 2006 presentation.
Proposed a lot, delivered nothing.
Telling people what they want to hear, year after year, and not delivering shows, TO ME, that those things are nowhere near the top of his priority list, even though they are some of the most requested features.

Not being a high priority and being against an editor are two very different things. He could still want to add it and just not see it as being really important. That's certainly a long way off from being against putting one in.

From one developer to another, I do believe Kaz always intended what he has said as he foresees the future...

But like many developers who assume new hardware will blow the lid off limitations actually start "multiplying polygons" in the efforts to improve fidelity and quickly find the wall again... Then have to relearn optimization and more efficient ways to do things again.

So I do believe Kaz has solid vision and I actually respect that he has the guts to talk about it, but his vision is simulated reality, not an immersive experience as he sees them as one and the same.

Other developers that are more creative know how to work magic within limitations, not Kaz, he will grind GT until consoles are 10x more powerful than pc's of today.

But I wonder if he has heard that this is quite possibly the last console generation? Hmm... It's what all the big game publishers are pondering at the moment anyway.

GT 7 could quite possibly be the GT Swan song and if Kaz knows this then he has one more go at it and it will be what forever defines the legacy that was Gran Turismo... Or is it?!

I'm in 100% agreement with you on that. Its a matter of choice. I guess I'm showing my age. I still think its about driving.

Gran Turismo 1 & 2 had more livery options than any other game I played on the PS1. Then it was canned from GT3 and onwards. So I think having a livery editor would be developing on a feature that originally drew me to the Gran Turismo series in the first place. Also besides the creative aspect to having a livery editor, it is more immersive to have a racing game with racing series with race cars.

I actually feel that the reason there are so many cars with gold chrome and pink wheels online is because there is so little players can do to actually make their cars stand out from their rivals. There are only so many colour combinations that look aesthetically pleasing - that, and the chrome effect helps to mask the appearance of PS2 quality cars.

I would prefer a full fledged livery editor with a store front feature to download liveries, but I'm also liking your idea as well. Neat. These all could be "technically possible. (laughs)"

In GT 1, all cars could be upgraded to a race variant. This was what made GT so epic and progressive. I'll be honest that in saying GT lost a lot of luster from me for not bring that back... What they did in GT 5 was not impressive regarding the RM cars...

Agreed, I think we all would but these suggestions are more compromises to have something a bit more than we have now with the hope something, anything is done to make cool racers... At least let us add number plates...

Yeah, like I said, I like his idea as well, and if PD does need to make said compromises, then they could give this idea a go. Maybe I can have a gulf livery GTR for instance easily with this idea

I used to play NFS Undercover on the Wii a lot a few years ago, and it had a pretty good livery editor. So if it were possible on the Wii (wich was probably the least powerful console out there), it should be a piece of cake on the PS3 right?

Even if the livery editor was just basic shapes you can move freelie around on the car, rotate, change size and color, I'd be happy.. With some creativity and ingenuity you can make awesome liveries with combining basic shapes.

(If it were anything like that, I just hope they won't put a 'X amount of shapes limit' on it....)

Anything less than this would be a huge failure and slap in the face in my opinion...

I really don't understand why people say that it won't happen as if they are 100% sure.

Anyway, here's my vision.

You can choose from manufacturer stickers, Gran Turismo stickers and stickers from other brands, just like how the touring cars from Gran Turismo look like. And here's a prediction just like yours:

There will be a livery editor in GT6.

Makes just about as much sense as your ''confirmation''.
