Loading times - Disc version & Digital version

Jimie--
I haven't seen this topic mentioned here or anywhere else in any detail, and can't find any info that's useful.

I've seen a few reviews of GT6 that state the loading times are poor, such as Edge online:

the loading times, which often keep you waiting the best part of a minute for your next race.

And others that say the opposite such as Eurogamer:

The prolonged loading times seen in the last game have been massively cut down

I have the digital version of the game and the loading times are very fast compared to GT5, I timed it at ~13 seconds from main menu to race start menu.

I have two friends who own the physical disc version who both complain the loading times are very slow (or "horrendous"), this is after a week of a decent amount of gameplay hours.

I would suggest the 'Install as you play' kind of feature simply isn't working.

Has anyone come across any info regarding this?

I'm in IB races currently and race loading times are much faster than in the beginning whenever I have been on the current track before. The game also might install some car data when they haven't been used before, but that's just speculation.

Once the screen comes up for the race, it's only a couple of seconds mostly until you hear noise coming from the track, which indicates that loading/installing has finished.

I read from disc, but have an SSD in my PS3. I have just a few seconds of loading after i press the start race button. Never felt sluggish at all. The menus are blazing fast as well.

Pretty quick for me, no hardware upgrades (except blu ray lens) on a slim PS3. It's probably one of my quickest loading game I have.

Perhaps their hd is maxed out and gt6 has been unable to install enough data to speed things up? That or theyve disabled the install. I personally wish there was an option to just do it all at once.

There is an "Option", Buy the digital version :D

If it installs as it goes, you'd have to imagine that first time loading a piece of content, be it car, track, Moon, or what have you will be slower, as it'll need to both install and load to memory that piece of code. Second time around should be quicker as you'll not only be loading from HDD or SSD, but you'll skip a write operation for the initial install process.

Or I could be completely wrong. Does happen from time to time.

--edit-- And I really must get around to banging an SSD in there. Been putting off for too long.

Which would be more of an option if it wasnt such a massive download. Dsl is fine for latency and gaming but not so hot for a download of that size. And if god forbid it gets corrupted and you need to reinstall a disc is far preferable to downloading again.
