Hey everyone,

I was wondering if it might be possible to fit the ''RED'' MOMO wheel with the multi coloured buttons to a G27 base? It has six buttons so why not? It looks the bizz so I thought I would start a thread and see where it goes?

Look forward to your input and replies, cheers, AussieStig

Please see the pic

Thanks mate, it looks pretty good, I cant see if the screws have been re positioned on the wheel. He has used the old style flippers. I am wondering if I can just use the wheel and buttons and the existing G27 flippers?

Thanks again for the link, cheers.

I have Momo Blacks on my G27's - you need to make a tooling die and do some work. Buttons interface directly with the stock connection. I love it!

I'd not see any reason why you cant do it with the Red.

Hey Derek,

Thanks for your answer mate. Would you have the time to explain how I should go about it and what materials are needed? All this in a bit more detail? I am in a position of maybe being able to purchase two of these wheels. Maybe you are interested in one to try out?

Anyway I appreciate you taking the time to reply, cheers, AussieStig

PS I found this pic of inside the MOMO RED wheel, can you see if the connections are the same as the G27?

I appreciate you taking the time to answer me here, cheers mate, AussieStig

Thanks for your link CloneHead, I watched this video earlier today and yes I have read the comments. I am curious to hear what Derek has to say about it as he says it should work. I mean it would be nice to have all buttons functioning.

Cheers mate.

I think he's only got four of the buttons working.
Anyway - if you need more interior shots of the Red Momo, post here, or PM me - and I'll see if I can come up with some.

OK mate, cheers for that, I understand from the comments that he had 2 buttons and the flippers working, I will wait to see if Derek has some input on this as well.

The momo red and momo black rims look to be quite different. It was a good amount of engineering and effort to get the Momo Black's rim to attach to the g27's base. It's rock solid and can be done with some thought. I can't say I'd know if the red would be similar or not at this point. It does appear that the bolt pattern is on 55mm, and that's identical to the G27's :) Doing it for the black was much different!

Hey Derek,

Thanks again for your answer mate. l am curious to know if you can see on the pic if the connectors are the same as the G27s?

Cheers mate

Thank you opelgt1969,

I dont know enough about electronics to see what has to be done, but on seeing your pic, I am guessing that it might be possible to wire up the G27 wires to the MOMO connectors. Hopefully somebody that reads this thread may have already gone down this road and might like to share their experiences.

Cheers mate

There are 4 pins on the connector, one will be a common ground and the others will go to each of the three buttons, follow the tracks on the circuit board to see what goes where, likewise with the g27 buttons. Then just match the ground to the ground and the other 3 can go to any of the buttons (you can assign them as you wish in whatever game/software you use)

Just had another look at the momo red connector picture you put up. There are 6 pins on each. The grey wires look like being the common ground (two wires into one pin is a givaway) the other 5 on each connector will be 3 for the buttons, one for the shift paddle and one for the led. So its just a case of seeing which pins go where and rewiring to the g27 connector.

What I would do first is to cut each wire and add connectors to each one on both wheels, then hook each wheel up to a PC and map which button doesn't work with each wire unconnected. Doing this might save you time when doing the mod. Fill free to use pictures in my profile (I have some blank ones) they are for the G25 wheel but you can just add the extra buttons.

Cheers ravey1981 and opelgt1969, I appreciate your help with this question. Based on your advice I will go ahead and purchase the wheel, I would like to preserve / save the wiring of my original G27. Do you know of anywhere I may be able to obtain the wiring sets that opelgt1969 posted here?

Cheers for now fella's

You might check with your local electronic store, I don't think they will have a connector just like the one in the G27 wheel but you could buy 2 sets of male/female small connectors to splice into your wiring, just make sure that they will fit inside of wheel after putting wheel back together. If you go this route you might want to get enough connectors to be able to swap them around.

OK opelgt1969, ta for your suggestion and advice, I am grateful to you for taking the time to help a bloke out. Once I have the wheel I will search out a store and see if I can source the connectors. With your help and advice I am sure it wont be an impossible ask to get it working.

Cheers mate

Ta CloneHead, the link looks promising, I checked out the connectors and the thread. My aim is to get this mod done and still have the possibility to revert back to the standard wheel should I wish to sell the G27 sometime down the road. So an extra set of connectors should do the trick.

Cheers mate

OK just an update, just bought the MOMO RED wheel for 20 euros. Should arrive in a day or two. I am looking forward to getting this wheel, although I am happy with my new G27 wheel, the rig I am building doesnt really gel with the generic look it has. Where as the MOMO wheel looks like it could have come from a race car! I hope with the help of you blokes I get this wheel onto my G27 base and be up and running soon.

Cheers

PS W.I.P., my rig, inspired by the HyperStim and hand made without plans which now has a Tillett W2 racing seat, and the old Thrustmaster wheel and pedals swapped out for a new G27. I obtained an extra G27 shifter and have hand turned a MOMO style shift knob from hardwood and will be cutting the shifter base up to fit it into the cockpit just below the wheel on the right hand side.

sorry mate, I am in Europe, I have them posted on a site here and I just inserted the URL from these pics in my post. Could you advise me on how to attach pics directly to my post? I only have the option of PDF, RAR and ZIP. If I try to upload a pic form my PC it says its an invalid file, and I am using JPEG or PNG files.

Look forward to your reply, cheers

Well the MOMO RED wheel should be arriving today, I know it's a little off topic, but pertains to my rig so I hope it's relevant? I have to wiggle the shifter in between my right leg and the side of the cockpit, I know the mechanism isn't as wide as the housing, (which I will be cutting to remove the button board and mechanism). Does anybody know if there ever was a gated metal H patterned plate made for the G25/27 shifter? Have been scouring the forums and google to no avail. In the event of there being no plates available, I will make one myself out 4 mm thick aluminium.

IF anybody knows where to find one I would be glad to hear from them.

Cheers

Well the wheel arrived today, pulled it to bits straight away, I was hoping the hub on the G27 would accept the wheel without too much hassle. Unfortunately it wont slide straight on, also the bolt pattern is not as straight forward either! The bolts that are on the face of the wheel are also the bolts that hold it to the hub of the MOMO base, these then do not correspond with the G27 in any way.

I did however see that I could swap out the paddles as the position of the holes are nearly identical.

I now know it will be quite an effort to get it onto my still new G27, the diameter of the wheel rim is about 2 cm smaller, but it is quite thick and it sits well in my hands. Luckily the MOMO wheel only cost 20 euros so I am not too concerned. I will concentrate on finishing my rig and all the other things I still need to do on it and this will be a nice project for once it is all up and running.

If anyone that reads this knows of someone whom has already done this to a G27 please let me know as I am not giving up on this mod!!!!

Cheers
