Hey Guys,

I'm looking to get a new graphics card.

I'm currently running:

  • i5 3570k
  • 2GB EVGA 660ti
  • Gigabyte GA-Z77-D3H
  • 8GB Corsair DDR3 RAM
  • 3TB Seagate HDD
  • 120GB OCZ SSD
  • Antec 620W PSU
  • Coolermaster Hyper 212 EVO Fan
  • NZXT Phantom 410

The monitor I am currently running is an ASUS VS247H. I also have 2 BenQ GL2450HM's. I would like to run a PLP set up, so is that possible with my current set up?

Budget is around £500 for the card. Would I be better off getting a 2nd 660ti?

Yep, hold off on the 780, although I heard somewhere the r9 and r7 series have been put back to late this month. one thing to think about is if you want to go sli 780s or a similar powered card, you'll have to invest in a new cpu to make the most of them, most probably the i7 3770k for that socket. I don't think even clocking the balls off the 3570k would allow it to keep up with that much gpu grunt.

As G.T said, hold on for a little while. A GTX 660Ti is still a great card and should last you just a little nudge longer.

I'd first of all wait until the R9 290 and R9 290X are being released, look up some benchmarks, compare prices and make a decision then. Or, if you have the patience, wait until nVidia releases their new cards which is probably going to be around February.

Hell you could even get a cheap second 660Ti and go with that until nVidia's new cards arrive. 660Ti SLI is almost, if not, Titan-like performance, so we're still talking a ton of performance for two reasonably cheap cards here! At this moment in time there is a whole lot of stuff to look out for in the world of graphics card's world!

I don't plan on getting this card until Christmas/New Year as funds are tight now. So if there are new cards coming out soon that will be good.

I've had this 660ti since March and it's been a great card for me as it's played all the games I wanted it to. But I'm looking to go PLP soon and have a gpu ready for next gen games.

The longer you wait, the cheaper current cards will get. I will say, revisit this topic when you are ready for the purchase as these things change what seems like daily. ;)

Yeah very true. If you're waiting until possibly the beginning of next year we would be saying wait for Nvidia's new cards etc, etc. So sometimes it's probably just best to bite the bullet and go for it.

True, but they can get harder to find sometimes.
When I went to get my 2nd 690 I held off for ages because I knew/had a feeling it would come down in price. Sure enough it did but then became as rare as unicorn s:censored:t.
Luckily I found one (not quite as cheap) and got it. Now you'd be flat out trying to get one with-out having to order.

Advice to OP... just go with something that would suit your needs. Have a look at some reviews of the cards, compare prices and then pull the pin. At the end of the day it's your decision 👍

 Yes, agreed on both accounts. I went on a hunt to find my brother a second GTX570HD recently, even that was hard to find.

With the 780 Ti coming out next month it's a good thing you're not making a decision until Christmas time - this is sure to result in price drops on the 760, 770 and maybe even the 780.

What a terrible, terrible time to be a gamer trying to save money these months

You're telling me. I'm trying to balance the money likely to be spent on the Xbox One and a new video card.

Good thing I don't have to worry about upgrading anything else (or the PS4/Wii U) until next year.

7990's have been showing up for under £500 recently too.
This is true also. Gone are the issues the card had with micro-stuttering that it suffered from with earlier drivers.

As long as you don't care about power bills and have a sufficient airflow in your case then I do recommend this card.

Yea, I can't wait until my sister buys me the xBox one for my 16th birthday, although long overdue, but obviously she couldn't before. LOL the surprise was really obvious :P

Also, as a moderator you've probably noticed that... it's been AGES, so I hope... please contact me via PM if you know anything.
