i had to get my friend to show me the ropes but now i know what way things run i had to find my ground as i siad this is all bran new to me so sorry it wont happen again.

@homeforsummer: I recently made up a Type 72 for a tuner challenge that (I think) is a pretty significant departure from the 'normal' way to tune an Elise. You can find it here if you're interested. 284 hp, 801 kg (includes ballast to satisfy entry requirements), tuned for Motegi East.

I don't know what track you're testing the the Elise and Civic Type-R on, but I'm having trouble here. I chose Trial Mountain, which in retrospect is a course that definitely favors the Elise. I probably should have chosen something like Motegi.

I don't drive with the aids on at all, and I use MT.

I set a benchmark with a stock Elise (no oil change) at Trial Mountain with a laptime of 1:36.685.

I bought a CTR EP '04 and set a stock benchmark at 1:45.922.

I added a racing flywheel, stage 3 clutch, 1.5 LSD, racing suspension, S3 front tires and S2 rears, and full weight reduction. That yielded a lap tim of 1:41.598.

Further suspension fine-tuning yielded 1:41.129.

Port & polish, engine balancing, ECU, and NA Stage 1 for 258hp yielded 1:39.633. That's still ~3 seconds off the Elise's time!

Looking at those laptimes says that adding all that power didn't really do a whole hell of a lot. Obviously, getting power to the ground is not the CTR's strong point.

I might pick a different track and give it a go, but that'll be a different day.

I don't think it'll take too much, but we'll see.
I'm having trouble here.
Wow, I'm surprised at how much the drivetrain lets the Civic down. What was the final WPR difference between the 1:39 Civic and the stock Elise? When I judged the FF class for a tuner challenge it really impressed on me that, in most cases, it's all about
getting power to the ground
for this drivetrain. Still, that's a massive difference.

EDIT: I just realised I should calculate the WPR for myself and not ask stupid questions. Sorry 'bout that.

Back to the original topic. With the subject of Elise's, I suggest that you look at the many Elise's and Speedster Turbo's that were entered into Tuner Challenge 5 for the lightweight category....they are all impressive in their own ways. ;)

One thing that I discovered during TCV5 about 111R. I'm finding that I actually prefer earlier Elises with the Rover engine when hot-lapping. True, the Toyota engine from the 111R has more revs with a higher redline, which is good for some racing situations since you can leave the car in gear longer when approaching corners. But the Rover engine (found in the base Elise, 111S, Sport 190 and Motorsport) features more useful revs when just driving around on an empty track...not as many of them are "dead". If that makes any sense.

The K-series Rover engine definitely seems to have a wider powerband and more useable torque. Has it's own unique sound too. One of my best mates used to own a k-series powered Elise with a sports filter/exhaust and it sounded great under load. Bit more "raw" than the high-revving Toyota engine.

dude I tought speeding was more of a chalange only joking dude i might give the 72 a run but wont be today im trying to set up my cobra tt racing wheel as soon as i do ill get on to it sweet.

If you were to translate this then it would say...

"Dude, I thought speeding was more of a challange. Only joking... Dude, I might give the Type 72 a run but it won't be today. Right now I'm trying to set up my Cobra TT racing wheel, and as soon as I do I'll go on to do that."

Actually, slowman, you should use a space before the ellipsis and don't need to capitalise after it.
Only joking ... dude, I might give the Type 72 [etc]
In fact it would be better if you used a semi-colon instead of the ellipsis. but that's just getting picky.

And I'm not picky, I'm just asking for the basics here.

My point is that we've been given the greatest communication tool in the history of mankind. Can *something* resembling effort be put into communicating effectively? :)

Stop using this thread (or any other for that matter) for chat. Profile message other members, or better, PM them. You have been already told not to do it. Do not let this happen again.

It's a friendly advice you have been given by a moderator and me. Make sure you take note of it. 👍

Apologies to slowman, I was not having a go at you, it was a poor attempt at humour on my part. In fact, it was more of a compliment, but it's a bit of an 'in-joke' among editors and proofreaders, and I understand it's not appropriate here.

OK, that's enough off-topic drivel. I believe that the Type 72 is the god of Elises, but this is largely based on its 200pt performance. It's up there with the GSX-R4 (is that the name? The one made out of two motorbikes) but I don't know whether this is due to a programming glitch or if the real one is just as good. Do my learned bretheren have any opinions on this?

Some of my fondest gt4 memories are in either elises or speedsters 👍 Then again I liked most small mr's in gt4 :dopey: The 72 is a really nice ride even though it's slower then the others.

The 111r is great fun in arcade, like this :)

Hey Slowman what's up dude? Could you not read my last post ?Are we going to have some fun?

You spelled "fun" with an "e" at the end. I wasn't sure what the word "fune" means.
very cool well I do injoy a bit of fune. but not on this page

Also, I'm not sure if "injoy" is a word. I'm assuming you mean "enjoy"???

Like slowman said, we've got the most extensive communication tool ever on this planet, the least we can do is try to pretend we're somewhat intelligent at using it. :grumpy:

If you say so, I should try to drive the car more than one lap. I remember I got it and sold it afterwards, dunno why.

Suzuki GSX-R/4 would be it. Actually, it has the engine of the Suzuki Hayabusa GSX1300R, once the fastest production motorcycle in the world. ;)

And the bike is in Tourist Trophy, too. 👍 :D
