My boyfriend bought last April (2014) his dream car, a Lotus Elise S1. Well, to be honest, he was seeking for a Series 2, but the Series 1 he found, he just fell in love with her... the colour (Chrome Orange), the roundings, 100% original Dutch and fully maintained by the Dutch dealer/importer, it was a no brainer..

Please stop :drool::drool: guys... back to GT6 !

Since this January, I organize TimeTrials for a small Dutch community and I want to organize our 3th or 4th TimeTrial with this Elise. 'Stock', no tuning, but prepared by myself with the best realistic specifications for the Elise? I don't know the exact name of the Elise, but it has 118hp, build in 1999 and well, that's almost it. My boyfriend isn't at home this moment, so I can't ask him.

Now I need your help..

Can I copy/paste the specifications of a real Elise (gearing) for the right gearbox settings? Also for camber/toe and other suspension settings, I need another setting than the original untuned Elise, because driving without slip-recovery it's totally not the Elise I've experienced this far in real life... the car is heavily oversteered and very tricky by braking on the engine. The Elise in the real world is very sticky to the tarmac and difficult to get oversteer, there must be a cliff, but again, the cliff I've experienced in GT6 isn't the Elise 'we' have. Sodoes anybody have a great realistic tune for the Lotus ?

:gtpflag:

I'll see what I can do :) I already collected some data on Elise cars long ago :) Is your S1 1999 model the base model ? There are several S1 model, 111S, 135, 160 and 190. If you have base Elise S1, I probably can do a replica, it will be on comfort medium or hard :P

I won't be popular by saying this, lol, but driving with all aids off and comparing THAT to the real world car will NEVER match up.
R/W cars have all that power steering, braking, on-time differentials, power this-power that, and basically R/W cars come 'tuned for the road'.
GT6 cars come 'tuned for nothing', so a ton of work is needed to match anything that rolled off the lot in R/W.
Best of luck to you.

Just got a completed data after checking my data collection folders :) From technical specs, alignment, weight, springs, gearing, etc. Will do the car when I play next time :P Do you have early or late 1999 Elise ? You do know that the car needs at least 95 RON fuel :D Have you corner weight the car ? I have data for dry corner weight - no fuel, but if you have one, I can cross reference and get more accurate replica. Feel free to PM me, so I can get you early build and test it.

Just to let you know that the real car spring rate might not be achievable in GT6. I need to check the spring rate range in GT6, if can't be reached, I can build one with aftermarket coilover kit, say from NITRON :D

Wow, lot of technical English you wrote there.

I believe it's an late 99's Elise, model type not sure, but as far as i know, it just the basic Elise, not eny of those 'specialised' ones like the 111s.
The most important for me is the gearing and handling (suspension). I know it's far from realistic with all those driver aids on/off, so we've made a TimeTrial A and B championship, with and without slip recovery. For this timetrial I'll aim for an extra restriction, for forbidden the tractioncontrol. Abs is still necesarry in gt6, otherwise I've forbidden that too.

It isn't my goal to get the Elise as far realistic as possible, just a more balanced Elise with a better handling. Suggestions for a good small track for the Elise ? I'm thinking off Brandshatch or Deep Forest now.

A good track for getting to know the car is Tsukuba, short, relatively flat and easy to learn on. I see you have the base 1800 Rover K engine Elise S1 :P I will built a replica tune aiming accurate specs and balanced handling :)

Have you driven the car to the limit at the track or empty roads ? If you driven the car IRL like most commuter do, it will be different than when you drive in GT6. In game, you will usually push the car nearing it's limits almost all the time. This is easily seen from the speeds you are traveling :P

Also, base Elise S1 do not have traction control, ABS, airbags and non servo assisted brakes.

I know, that's why I consider to set this event with more restrictions, other than only the SRS disabling in the B championship. In both trials TC will be forbidden. Disabling ABS won't work, because braking without abs is almost impossible in GT. We have a low-level community, where the fun of online racing is far more important than realism/sim racing. Everybody could join in.

You are correct, it's the 1.8 rover K engine. How do you get those tunes? Maybe I'll learn something from your 'work-around' to get those tunes and information ! :)

I drove the Elise quite often from way back in GT5 - with no ABS - racing online. I drove it in GT6, even on comfort medium and 5/5 brake balance, lock up with no ABS rarely happen, unless you are braking at full force in low speed ( under 60kmh ) :P It's a preference really :D

I researched the net for the car information, I'm building the car right now, only have about 30 minutes to drive and test :P Might finish the car tomorrow and post it up.

There are several weight distribution reported based on the condition of the car ( dry weight, full tank and full tank with driver ), ranging from 45/55 to 39/61 to 35/65 ( 35/65 most probably from S2 with heavier Toyota 2ZZ engine). The dry weight of Elise S1 - 1996 -1999 is 725kg with 45/55 ( no fuel ). I will include several weight options, full tank at 757kg ( 39/61 ) and dry weight 39/61.

Power at 120PS or 118HP. Gearing is correct in GT6. LSD, the real car has 2 option, open diff ( no LSD ) and optional Torsen LSD. I don't know if your car has Torsen LSD installed from factory. GT6 Elise 1996 ( what I will use ) has stock LSD at 7/30/15 - I think the stock GT6 LSD simulating Torsen LSD. I will provide 2 LSD, stock and custom with 5/5/5 setting ( closest to open diff/no LSD )

For suspension, the stock spring rate of Elise S1 IRL are too low, in GT6 the lowest value are still too high. So I used the spring ratio instead and use optimized base value where the rear spring rate is as closest possible to the real car rear spring. I will be tuning the damper to support the weight distribution ( both 45/55 and 39/61 ) as well as tuning the ARB.

I also have the geometry setup / alignment of the factory Elise S1 ( camber and toe ), the values are easily adaptable in GT6.

My target for reference to real life car Elise S1 is the Tsukuba record lap at 1:09.70 driven by Keiichi Tsuchiya in Best Motoring. With comfort medium it should be able to lap in 1:09s flat. The tire will be the base tire, you are free to fit higher grip tire.

I think you will like the 725kg + 45/55 weight distribution, it has very good balance and very forgiving on the limit :D  The 39/61 version also very fun to drive, much more like the real car would behave on the limit of grip, 4 wheel drift on medium to high speed, throttle steer is very much the menu :)

Thank you so much !

My experience with the gearing isn't that possitive. The gears are way too long compared with the Elise on our parking lot. The first 3 gears are shorter, the last 2 a bit longer. Topspeed 210km/h. I have to measure that by myself and playing with the gearratio's

This is the real car gear ratio data, the same like in stock GT6 gearbox
@7000rpm 1st 40mph, 2nd 68mph, 3rd 96mph :
1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th Final
C6BP 3.167 1.842 1.308 1.033 0.765 3.938 - Elise S1 standard and MGF

If the above ratios / stock in GT6 is too long, could you possibly have the Elise S1 Sports 135 ? This is the data @7000rpm, 1st 40mph, 2nd 66mph, and 3rd 88mph :
1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th Final
B4BP 2.923 1.750 1.308 1.033 0.848 4.200 - Elise S1 111S, S1 Sports 135, also used on S2 135R & S2 standard ( Close Ratio 5 Speed Box )

If the 2nd and 3rd gears are longer in GT6 than your car, than you car might have the close ratio box as used on Sports 135. The 1st gear top speed are about the same on both gearbox, at 40mph or 64kmh, but 2nd and 3rd gear are a bit shorter.

Notes :

The replica is a build made for @YukinoSuzuka, to replicate a car recently bought in real life 1999 Lotus Elise S1 :) This build is aimed to replicate the real car as close as possible while still aiming for more balance handling.

The base Elise Series 1 uses 1.8 Rover K16 Engine with 118HP or 120PS output. For weight, based on research data, the dry weight is 725kg, with distribution at 45/55. There are variety of weight distribution reported from 45/55 to 39/61 to 35/65, depending on the state of the car ( full tank, with driver or later series 2 with Toyota 1.8 2ZZ heavier engine )

For this replica, weight are in 2 version, dry weight ( no fuel ) at 725kg, and full tank of fuel / curb weight at 755kg. The weight distribution are also provided in several flavor, 45/55, 40.1/59.9 and 39/61. I separated these into 4 built specs, all in 118HP base stock power. Dry weight 725kg comes with 2 distribution 45/55 and 39/61, while the full tank of fuel at 755kg has 40.1/59.9 based on Lotues Service Manual. Only the 725kg 39/61 uses the carbon hood ( body color ) part installed, the other specs do not use carbon hood.

Suspension is the next part to build. The real car spring rate is not possible to use in GT6, due to the lowest value in GT6 is too high. I chose to adapt the S2 Elise retrofit enhancement suspension kit for S1 ( Eibach Springs and Bilstein Damper ) The spring rate of this kit only applicable for the front spring in GT6, as the rear spring rate not possible as it has different lower spring ratio. I adapted similar spring ratio of the stock Elise S1 springs. This yield in 4.3kg/mm front spring and 6.25kg/mm rear spring. Maintaining the ratio of the stock Elise S1 while being as low as possible in GT6.

Damper tuning are in 2 version to support 2 different weight distribution. The difference are in rear damper compression and extension. The heavier rear of 39/61 needed more fine tuned setup to help the rear stay planted and better support of the added lateral load. I used 2 sets of suspension setup above, both uses the same Elise factory alignment.

There is a special setup needed for higher grip tire ( sports tire ) on 39/61 distribution. I added optional anti roll bar ( ARB ) setup for 45/55 distribution that can be used for sports tire. The base 3/1 ARB are optimized for comfort tires ( medium and soft ). The sports tire need different stiffness in ARB at the front ( softer at either 1 or 2 ) if wanted less sharper handling. The range of options are 1/1, 2/1, 1/2 or 2/2. Feel free to try them on SH to SS tire to find what suits you best.

For 39/61 suspension setup, a compulsory ARB changes required for sports tire. The comfort medium and soft can use the same 3/1 ARB which tailored to work with the revised rear damper. For SH, SM and SS tires, ARB setup are listed above, SH and SS uses 1/2 ARB, while SM 2/1 ARB with options to use more varied ARB : 1/2 and 2/2.

The stock gear ratio in GT6 is correct for Elise S1 Base model, but I also provides additional transmission setup to replicate the close ratio 5 speed used on Elise S1 111S and Sports 135 model. The differences are minimal, with slightly shorter 2nd and 3rd gear.

For LSD, the base Elise has optional feature of Torsen LSD. The GT6 stock LSD seems to be setup to simulate this with 7/30/15 settings. I used the stock LSD, as I felt it perform quite well. While I also included an alternative LSD setup to reflect real Elise S1 which do not have optional Torsen LSD fitted. The LSD has 5/5/5 settings to simulate as close as possible rear open differential.

The rear aero part is optional, I installed it just for good looks and set at max value - 20.

The tire used as a base is comfort medium, this is also the tire similar to the real life fitted tire as stock. For reference, I used Keiichi Tsuchiya lap record with Elise S1 '96 at Tsukuba, posting 1:09.70 lap. The replica with dry weight 725kg and 45/55 + 39/61 distribution can lap in low 1:09s on comfort medium and stock gearbox.

I tuned and tested the car at Tsukuba and Big Willow Springs. The Elise S1 on 725kg ( 45/55 and 39/61 ), comfort medium and no assist, can lap in 1:09s, similar to the real life lap.

I have provided 2 replay files, both are done at Tsukuba with 725kg dry weight + stock LSD + stock gear ratio, one with 45/55 and another with 39/61 distribution. Both are in low 1:09s.

Highly recommended to drive with 45/55 725kg spec, very nicely balanced from comfort to sports tires.

Enjoy

UPDATE :

Added with correction of the old, full tank weight corrected and another dry weight specs based on Lotus Service Manual.
The Dry weight 40.1/59.9 distribution retains ballast position of the full tank to simulate no fuel distribution changes being reflected.

Added several sets of suspension and alignment for lowered ride height on stock tire ( Pirelli P Zero and Michelin Pilot SX-GT ) + optional ADVAN A038-R tire ( Comfort Soft / Sports Hard in GT6 ) special alignment offered by Lotus. Special rear damper setup for 725kg dry weight 45/55 distribution also added.

The Advan A038-R was recommended fitment for ( Lowered ) MotorSport Suspension Kit with front Dual Rate springs and KONI Damper. Spring rate in GT6 has been adapted from actual rate by maintaining spring ratio as the actual value are not possible for the rear spring.

The stock factory ride height has been corrected at 140mm, with lowered ride height update sets at 100mm/110mm. Lowered alignment are available for both Retrofit + MotorSport springs and ADVAN A038-R specific alignment for both spring rate setup also provided.

There are variety of setups now, feel free to try them and find out which one suits you best for each tire you fit :)

Added several sets of suspension and alignment for lowered ride height on stock tire ( Pirelli P Zero and Michelin Pilot SX-GT ) + optional ADVAN A038-R tire special alignment offered by Lotus.

Tune has been updated with corrections and additional setup 👍
