Mad Catz Wheel?

Apparently Mad Catz is coming out with an "Officially licensed Wireless Force Feedback Wheel for Xbox 360". This new wheel will sell for $249.00!

Does anyone here have any experience with Mad Catz products? How's their quality? I checked the specs on this wheel and they look impressive but $249.00 seems like a lot of money when you can buy a Fanatec for just a bit more.

Currently I'm using the old Microsoft Wireless Wheel (the one with pedals and force feedback). IIRC those sold for under $100.00 new. I just wish my Logitech DFGT wheel could be used with my XBox!

This is in the wrong section I believe.

Anyway, Mad Catz is known for shoddy products. Personally, I have tried some over the years, and I always "hear" they are better every year. It always ends in the same way though. Broken product, and "sorry cant help you" support.

If that wheel was $120 even I could see it competing with Fanatec. But for that price point...buying it over a Fanatec would boggle the mind.

I've never seen a $120 Fanatec wheel for the 360, with the pedals included in that $120 price. I haven't even seen a $250 Fanatec wheel that includes the pedals in a $250 price. All the wheels I've seen available are either the MadCatz or wheels that cost $250+ for the wheel itself and then another $100+ for the pedals for a bare minimum of $350 and up from there. Which 360-compatible Fanatec wheel can I get brand new with pedals for a total of $250 or less?

For here, the bolded bit is simply not true. So if MadCatz is coming down here with this wheel, I'll be getting it. I remember back in the 90s when I had my MadCatz wheel with the original Driver and it was actually quite a hoot to use.

Fanatec wheels here cost upwards of $600 and they don't even have a proper Fanatec retailer, just a third-party Aussie distributor.

First off if you want to get technical, there are (or where) Fanatec wheels for $250 that inculded pedals. The GT3 I believe was one. Now it is only PS3/PS compatiable, but it still. Also the Speedster wheel by Fanatec.

Also, I said the Mad Catz wheel could compete more with Fanatec, imo, if it was $120. Like the DFGT competed with the G Series being a more accessable price for entry level. I could not imagine spending over $120 for a Mad Catz product.

You are wrong with your minimum price on a Fanatec Xbox wheel as well. Bare minimum is a wheel $250, and pedals $30. So $280 is bare minimum. I would suggest $250 for a wheel that is probably the best for not only Xbox, but PC and PS3 as well for that price, and $150 for some of the best pedals on the market, though.

I would take Fanatec over Mad Catz any day, personally.

Read above.

Also wheels and games have come a long way since the original Driver game. Just saying you get what you pay for. Watch/read some reviews, and you will see even people on this forum can attest to how good the Fanatec products are for Forza.

I have the Madcatz wireless wheel O_O. It is a great wheel so far. I bought it based on the reviews I have found. Any review you can find will not point this wheel as a shoddy typical Madcatz product. People that have the wheel actually like them. I had a universal MC2 and the original for the PS1 in the past. Both worked well, although not the best looking but it worked.

The wireless wheel feels good. Looks great and it is sturdy. I have it clamped on my desk and it stays there solidly. The shifter and paddles are just fine. I like how you can switch to either side. The pedals are also good, maybe a little bit further apart than I'd like it to be. I enjoy the whole setup.

The only thing I don't like was of course no feedback. Nothing at all. But the smoothness, looks, quality, and feel makes up for my purposes. You can pick them up for $130 if it is shipped and sold through Amazon. A little much but worth it for my needs. Somewhere between $100-120 pricing would be more appropriate. I would love to have something better but it would be more than double the costs and of course I have other priorities.

I do have a feeling that this FF version could be pretty decent based on my experience from the wheel I have. Obviously the FF wheel is much more complex which means more can go wrong. Since no human has tried, touched, or owned this wheel yet let's see how it does. We can only assume so much. I do believe that $250 is a bit steep. It should have been in no more than $200 in my opinion.

The $30 pedals are no more. At the moment, $150 is the cheapest Fanatec pedal option. So, you're at $400 with no shifter other than the paddles.

Plus shipping.

I have some difficulty believing that the MadCatz version of MS's wheel is going to be a $250 value when compared against the same price point for the PS3 or the PC. But as the ONLY other viable option on Xbox vs. a $400 - $500 Fanatec setup, it'll probably be acceptable enough.

I have no doubt as to how good Fanatec products are. I just don't want to justify spending a minimum of $600 for a peripheral that I'd only use on one game. I'm already having trouble trying to sell my Driving Force GT, I don't want to part with my G25 and it wouldn't be worth parting with it anyway.

Well, then buy a Fanatec wheel and use your G25 pedals. Problem solved.

Or better yet, sell your DFGT and G25 and get CSR Elite pedals, and CSR wheel. Then you can use it on any game on any system.

Don't pay Fanatec prices for low madcatz quality!

Agreed.

There are some great points made in this thread so far. Thanks for all the feedback everyone! I think I'm going to take Vaxxtx & LickitySplit's advice and pick up the Fanatec. I emailed Fanatec the other day and they told me that the pedals from my Logitech DFGT WILL work with the CSR Wheel. :)

**Edit: The wheel that Fanatec & I were discussing was the Porsche GT2 wheel NOT the CSR wheel. See post #16 in this thread.

Im a bit surprised they said the DFGT pedals would work. I had my DFGT for a short while after getting my Fanatec. I also have the pedal adapter and the plug doesnt fit the adapter. The DFGT has fewer pins. Maybe they have another adaptor i'm not aware of...

Could be. I know the G25/27 and the Microsoft pedals, work on the GT2 but didnt know the DFGT pedals work on the CSR.

On another note, the standard CSR pedals are now available. ($79.95) Also if you get the new value pack then the pedals only cost $50.

Below is the text of the emails that transpired between Fanatec & me. It should be noted that I asked this about the GT2 Porsche wheel, not the CSR wheel as previously stated above. My mistake.

Betreff: PWGT2USA & Logitech Pedals
Nachricht:
Will the wheel only model PWGT2USA work with the pedals from my Logitech DrivingForce GT? Also, does the wheel come with a table clamp? I would primarily be using this on my XBox 360.

Hello,

yes, this will work.
The Table Clamp should be ordered separetely.

I'm afraid to say I think they mis-read your email and probably just stopped at the name Logitech and assumed it was the pedals from the other wheels.

Here is a link for the adapter http://www.fanatec.de/webshop/new_u...d=102&osCsid=0dd0d1f3b10f7527e419fe18810d626d

That adapter will not work with the DFGT. The G25/27 pedals have a 9 pin plug and the DFGT is a 7 pin.

I didn't see any other adapter for sale on their site.

That could be. Thanks for posting this because I am getting ready to order a wheel and would have been highly disappointed if I got it and it didn't work with my DFGT pedals. Someone mentioned that they will work with the Microsoft pedals though? I have the older Microsoft Wireless Wheel with force feedback and if those pedals will work with it then that's fine too.

Yeah they do. The phone cord looking thing. I got the adapter with my GT2 wheel. I assumed it had to be ordered seperate, but it came with the wheel.

Correct. I noticed the same thing with my adapter as well. Those pedals are pretty crumby but at least you will have some pedals to tie you over until you get some good pedals.

Here is a picture I found of the adapter.
Fanatec-pedal-adapter.jpg

You can see it has the plug for the MS pedals on the left side. You can also see that the Logitech adapter is indeed a 9 pin. ( you will notice the plug on your DFGT pedals has only 7 pins)

Agreed, they are kind of cheap pedals but as you said at least they will do in a pinch until I save up enough to order some decent Fanatec pedals. Thanks!

Glad we could help. 👍

Just found something to be aware of. It seems that there might have been 2 different adapters.

Here is the other one. This one doesn't have the MS pedal hookup.

Okay, thanks for this. I'll contact Fanatec again and see if they support the Microsoft pedals before I order. If not, then I'll probably just wait a few weeks and order both the wheel and pedals direct from Fanatec. Thanks again!

Going back to the Madcatz Wheel.

I ordered one and the release date keeps getting pushed up.My order should be shipped tomorrow, that is if the date doesn't get pushed up again. :banghead:

I'm really wanting to give you guys a review on this thing since so many people are saying this wheel will be rubbish. The wheel hasn't even came out yet so no one knows what it will be like.

Sure, no one knows "for sure" what it will be like. On the other hand if McDonalds offers steak dinner, you don't need to order it to find out it won't be as good as steak dinner at The Keg.

I've used my PWTS with MS pedals, G25 pedals and Clubsport pedals and all worked fine. The Clubsports are in a league of their own.

I'm willing to help you guys find out wether or not it's a good wheel.👍
I just wish the thing would ship already.

I got another E-mail and it said the product has been delayed, they have no idea when it will ship.Right now i'm playing the waiting game.

Ordered the Fanatec Porsche 911 GT2 Wheel with shifter and table clamp today! Was told that they'd be here within 2 - 5 business days. Fantastic!!!! This is an early Christmas present, late birthday present and late fathers day present from my wife!

Just to update this thread, I did contact the Fanatec Webshop before ordering and they told me that they no longer make the MS Wireless Wheel pedal Adapter, but that they have one in stock so that's what they are sending me with the wheel. Eventually I'll order the Fanatec pedals as well. Thanks to everyone in the thread for their helpful input. :)

The $30 pedals are no more. At the moment, $150 is the cheapest Fanatec pedal option. So, you're at $400 with no shifter other than the paddles.

Fanatec has a CSR Bundle for $299. CSR wheel with CSR pedals!! No comparrison between Madcatz and Fanatec products and excellent CS.
