And finally, the engine arrived. It was nothing sophisticated like a V12, but a raw, roaring behemot straight from NASCAR. It churns out 705bhp and nearly 1000Nm of torque. In order to harness this power, we installed a racing gearbox and a limited slip differential. And just to be certain that the power reaches the tarmac, a set of fat racing slicks was applied on those shiny rims.

Actually, the 5.7 HEMI wants nothing to do with NASCAR.

If memory serves me, Dodge is still running wedge heads. :P

But the point stands.

Review of the KPGC110 Gt-R V-spec

One of the guys at the office had been going on and on about his recently received Nissan Nur edition Skyline and how he had the fastest streetcar within 250 miles of our home track (GVS). The guy's been cocky before, but after a couple weeks of this I hatched a plan to put him back in his place.

About three months ago I had found a 73 Skyline GT-R hanging around in the depths of a scrapyard, shelled out 700 bucks and trailered it to my garage. After initial inspection it was obvious that it had a good deal of rust in it, and the essential mechanics simply were not there in some places. So we ripped the body off and had it blasted and rewelded the problem areas. While the body was off we had a look around and noticed problems in almost all of the car. I figured it would take us at least couple months of free-time to get the car into track ready condition, but the cocky office jerk's voice kept popping into the back of my mind, and I knew that, this time, I needed to outsource this work to some guys that really know what they're doing. He had been going on about a Cup race in 3 weeks and how he was going to blow the competion out of the water there.

I made the call and managed to acquire some of MFT's best to come down and see what they could do. They knew the problem, knew the opponents and pretty much knew what needed to be done the car to make it able to compete with one of the best Skyline's ever made by Nissan. 18 days later I was contacted by them and told that the Nissan KPGC110 GT-R V-spec was ready for launch. Well 3 days was enough to get it into the paint booth and through a couple coats of red pearl over it's previously indescribeable body color. Race day came and I trailer my new beast down to the track.

Well C.O.J. was already at the track when we arrived, and he came over to see what I could have possibly brought that would compete with his 'baby'. I opened the door and rolled out my shiny MFT KPGC110 Gt-R V-spec, to what I could only describe as a look of incredulation, I think he might have choked on his Diet Snapple actually.

"You actually gonna race with that heap, or you hiding your real car somewhere close by"

"Not only am I racing this in the Cup" said I attempting to egg him on "I'm going to cross that line in front of you." That was when he said what I was waiting for, being the Cocky Office Jerk that he was.
"If that P.O.S. can even pass me on the track you can have my car"
"Sounds like a plan" I smiled, and headed out to the track.

The day was perfect for racing, the track had been warmed up by a previous race, and the field was looking pretty competitive. I bogged down intentionally on the qualifying lap and ended up with the sixth postion for the start. Mr. Nur easily secured first and the field was completed by a 96 Grand sport, a lotus carlton, a 97 Supra Rz and a Jag Type S. The flag went down and the rev's came up and we were off.

My tires started spinning so I eased off the throttle momentarily to catch some grip and then burned off after my competitors. I must say off the line I was taken a little bit, and wasn't to sure I'd be leaving with a new Nur that night. Coming up on the first corner I knew I'd put my car in good hands, wow, those brakes really work! Passing both the Carlton and the Supra under braking I hit the apex and nailed the gas, the back end slid out nicely with a sweet little chirp of the tires I was off again and closing fast on the Jag through the bends.

This car absolutely SHINES in the corners. . . the next hairpin was coming up quick and I was right in the Jag's draft as he moved to the outside to hit the right line and started braking, I just flew by him, slammed the brakes late, slid the back end around and hammered on the throttle clearing the corner almost as a triangle with four round reverse lights in front of me I was closing in on the Grand-Sport and second place. We hit the next section of turns and his horsepower just couldn't compete with my little Skyline's cornering ability and I slid between him and the bumber going into the first tunnel and took off after the draft created by the Nur.

Coming out of the second tunnel and over the bridge I saw Mr. Cocky in front of me and caught in behind him as the needle started to climb just a little faster. Heading into the sweeping tunnel I noticed him being a little more cautious with his "baby" than I was and passed him smoking a tire on the inside. 1st Place! Out the tunnel, through the bends, and down the straight I went with the Nur shrinking into my rearview.

May I just say now that the track is not the place to get overly optimistic. . .

Through the first hairpin again I nailed the gas a little soon and caught dirt with the rear driver-side tire, and boy did that back end want to spin, some careful throttleing (sp?) and a couple small over corrections later I was back in control with a mean Nissan right on my. . .well you know. I was a little more cautious after that as I think the back end just got a little looser after the tires warmed up, but I managed to pull away,even though I had two more minor driving mistakes, and take the flag by 3.5 seconds!

After words I asked if he would mind pulling my trailer back to the garage as I wanted to "get the feel" of my new Nur.

Overall - I liked it, a fun classic to race and an enjoyable car for only 265hp
braking - can't argue here, never had any problems braking in time or getting to much understeer, they felt solid the entire time (4 runs at GVS and 3 at the Twin Ring Motegi Track (here I was trying to race the R emblem race, may I say now that S3's don't seem to last too long :P))
Gearing was good, I felt like the first gears could have gone by a 'little' quicker but better throttle control is what is needed there and it is heads and heels better than the stock version.
Suspension had some nice classic roll to it, but overall felt nice, never bottomed out or felt too tilted
my lap times were around 2.15 when I had good hot laps but occasionally a little monster popped out of the boot and showed this cars fault.

It's not really a fault in the tuning of the car so much as a fault in the behavior of the AI in GT4 but this GT-R absolutely LOVES to get pt'd by the Ai cars, I can't believe the number of times a rival car careened into my rear quarted panel and sent me doing 360's into a wall.

The car can get a little loose at times, which will give you the occasional spin out, this could be corrected with a wing I suppose, but then who would want to put a wing on this classic beauty.

Yet another great tune by the guys at MFT a solid A car.
 
what's wrong with some artistic details? I couldn't care less even if that engine had 64 pushrods and stuff like that.. sheesh.. is creativity banned when we're speaking if fictitious cars in a game?:dunce:

I was just giving a bit of insight. I don't expect you to be correct everywhere. (In fact, I expect some things to be a little off just due to culture clash.
 
I just noticed you upped the Alpine's difficulty rating from 'average' to 'pro.' Why? The car is unflappably predictable--no oversteer, no understeer--and brakes wonderfully. It isn't really fast in the straightaways, either. It's very fast in the long run, and I'm not saying it's safe to the point of being boring, (though I don't know that car's potential...) but it's almost foolproof to drive. I think you should move it back. In fact the only reason it shouldn't be a novice rating is the remarkable pace of the calm French lady.

But, that is just a short rant based on a car I drove ages ago, not something I'm trying to pass off as a review. However, I've got one of those as well...

I was in love with my Le Mans Quattro before any of this started. The engine note is the most beautiful I've ever heard; not lazy and off-beat like a huge--but somehow not too potent--American engine, and not as ear-shatteringly high-pitched as a tiny--and hairdryer-assisted--Japanese engine. No sir, this engine is loud, making sure everyone knows just how hard it is working, but deep, hinting at the massive displacement. And when all 5000 cc's work hard, wonderful things happen. But this car's acceleration is more than just acceleration: there's a feeling of being involved in the motion, (And what a motion!) that I'm not just watching it get progressively better and better fuel mileage (lmao). Admittedly, the cornering is technically horrible, but I just love it. I'm not sure why, really, but the surefooted and unique understeer combined with the infinite traction (how do I spin the wheels?) just give the car a charisma that I'm just blown away by. Even better, I've noticed that an enthusiastic braking feint into tight corner produces a perfect drift, with high angle, no wheelspin, high speed, and 700hp. Wonderful! The car had but one flaw: the brakes. I could never seem to brake early enough, the clamps just never seemed to fin(n)ish the job. It kind of ruined the whole thing, but I easily fixed that anyways. I honestly didn't think the car could be improved upon; What's better than perfection?

But, if I've got the car, It would be rude not to test it out. So I gave it a whirl at Infineon, and... nothing seemed too amazing. It's RWD(er) layout actually made it worse in hairpins than before, and the gear ratios gave even more amazing acceleration than before, which is theoretically great, but simply kills it in low-speed turns. Furthermore, I couldn't even begin to do the braking-feint drift in the corner #7 without spinning the wheels and losing my momentum. Sure, it seemed a bit swifter in the quick corners, but not by much. Furthermore, the handling had lost it's defining surefootedness; every time I turned, the tail was out just a few degrees. Sure, it's a bit better than total grip, but so much less remarkable. In other words, there's no real adjective to describe this new behaviour--It's... nothing.

It's a huge car, maybe it just needs an equally huge track. So, it's off to Germany we go!

It worked. The power actually means something here in the land of high-speed technical courses, as opposed to Infineon, which has a grand total of 1 segmented straightaway. The car's glorious sound system actually made the car move quickly here, while it just made me nervous at Infineon. The new cornering attitude, as well, showed it's bright side here; I've gotten over the understeer I somehow loved, and just appreciate the sheer pace of the thing. I know it's got 700hp and S3's, but I was able to go full-speed in every single turn from the very first lap, never feeling a sense of clumsiness or excessive power. The second lap revealed one supremely interesting characteristic of this car, though: It's amazingly confident in its motions, even while airborne (which is more often than you'd think with 700hp and no downforce). In the turn immediately after the jump in the first section, I got briefly distracted and forgot to slow down so I could actually clear the turn without embedding myself in the outside wall. As I mashed the square button and grimaced, the car, while being tossed around, did not even hint at faltering. No, this car is faithful to my decisions, it just cleared the turn without any drama whatsoever, undoubtedly a product of the gargantuan wheelbase. Honestly, I'm astonished it behaves so nimbly with such a legendary wheelbase.

In summary:
  • It's nimble and controllable, in no particular order.
  • It's power, though not your work, is still worth mentioning.
  • I'm delighted you didn't give it R tires, even though no wing is possible.
  • Equally amazing is that I can't notice the lack of R Tires.
  • But it's basically useless in small courses. Though, 700hp probably shouldn't be in small courses anyway...
I see that it specializes and excels amazingly in high-speed courses, but I'm much too in love with my technical courses to fully appreciate that. Also, I didn't see much of a problem with the original car's cornering. I get a feeling that, while it's undoubtedly an amazing tuning, that I may not be noticing that it may not be a very amazing car. 8.5/10

I don't really want to request anything right now, since you said you have an old Evo on the back burner; I hope it's a III!

I'm not really very into the idea of request cars; It kind of feels like it's a rushed product that you don't feel is quite good enough for the general public, but you didn't want to break the deal from post #8 or so. Don't get me wrong, the request cars you and Leo have built me are very fun, and much more agile than untuned, but I always just find myself asking "Why wasn't this published?" and "How much better could this be?"MFT Evo III

But, if you someday released an Evo III to the public, I would be simply delighted. But, no worries if you don't, I'll still be as loyal a customer as my schedule will allow, and wouldn't be disappointed in the least. Given the quality of the setups here, I presume that a request for a public-caliber car is a huge favour to ask, so I'll not. I'd like to just stick to subliminal messages instead;)

Also, the mention of mileage increasing makes perfectly awesome sense. If you're doing full throttle at 70 mph, you're using x amount of gallons of fuel per hour and going 70 mph. If you're full-throttling at 190 mph, you're still only using x amount of fuel per hour, (It's called a gas pedal for a reason) but now you're going 190 mph. If you only had one hour's worth of fuel, you'd go 70 miles at 70 mph (Though I must ask, why are you redlining at full throttle?) but 190 miles at 190 mph. Same amount of fuel, greater distance, means better efficiency. You can see it in action with some acceleration tests in the new Toyota Prius in arcade mode (You didn't actually buy it, did you?) and note the correlation between the speedo and mileage readout. The special HUD makes it feel like the Starship Enterprise!MFT Evo III
 
Vander - And that's a solid A review! I'm not even trying to address every little thing as that would take just too long, but I have my own story about the Race of the R Emblem and the tyre life... I drove the Suzuka race with it. Started last, my premier opposition being a V-SpecII Nür. By the end of the fourth lap (out of six) my tyres were just about gone and I pitted with a lead of around 15 seconds. Got dropped to the fourth place, around 10 seconds from the lead. After some pretty serious driving I won the race with a margin of around five seconds. :D

EA11R - The Alpine's rating was never changed, it's been Pro since the day the ratings were added to the banners. :odd: It's Pro because of the things that happen when you screw up. Every car is easy to drive moderately fast, but give them 110% and the things will change.

Thanks for the Le Mans review! It isn't a twisty course specialist as you found out, that amount of power needs a proper place to show its worth. Once again, it's a compromise, this time some low speed nimbleness had to be sacrificed to make it good at high speeds.

Oh, and about the request cars. Every request car is built from scratch, not one of them is a car that was going to be released but never got that far. Have you been given a car like that?

The point isn't that they're not good enough for the general public, it's that we want to follow certain lines in our car choices and the request cars usually don't fit those lines. If someone asked for a full power Civic, I'd make it for that person, I'd make it as good as I could, but I definitely wouldn't publish it as I don't want to publish a Civic. Moreover, we like to give an impression about an unique car for each customer. I've asked some people for a permission to publish their requests, as the cars have been "useful" for the garage too.

The request cars are just as good as the ones that get published, it would be outright stupid to rush them and get bad reputation through the grapevine for making mediocre cars. There are no specific "public-caliber cars", they are all just that without any extra mentions.
 
I too had some interesting come from behind pit stories with the car, but also had a few AARRRGGS as I got thrown from the track by the evil AI, I think they try to pretend that it doesn't exist. However I finally beat the Race of the R emblem last night with the car, after several tries so I now have another Nismo GT-R LM road car that was won from the little 73 MFT GT-R

As for the car I want, how about a 65 Alfa Romea Giulia Sprint GTA 1600 ?

And lol the Alpine was always like that? I'll have to test it out again. If nothing else, I distinctly remember being astonished by the car, if not in love. Who knows, maybe, if I try really hard and concentrate, I'll be able to lose control in it!

The 2000GT seems to have been ignored so far, and since it's one of my favorite cars of all time both in-game and out, I thought I'd chip in.

I took the car to Infineon first - the reverse banks and stomach-churning sweepers will reveal any weakness in a car. The 2KGT proved EXTREMELY fun through the sweepers, as it was relatively easy at speed to provoke some play in the rear end. On the reverse banks though, the car felt very numb and mildly understeer-prone, probably the result of the tight diff settings. Without a wing, these are likely neccessary, but even with the front toe settings to counteract it, the strong initial torque made turn-in a knife's-edge proposition. Weaker front brakes may have helped here, as well. Despite that, the car produced some strong lap times, and while it may be hard to drive the car VERY fast consistently on curves of such camber, steady steering yields decent results. Due to the strongly-dampened rear end, putting it over the curbing was relatively destabilizing, but nothing that couldn't be recovered from.

Next, I took the car where it truly belongs - Nordschleife - and talk about a 180... the car absolutely shone here in terms of its handling. Stable, predictable, and much less tendency to understeer, except on lift. The sharp elevation changes through Flugplatz and elsewhere provided no challenge whatsoever, and stepping the rear out when called for was much easier here. The 'Ring DID however bring to light the only other weakness of the car - it practically SCREAMS for a fully-customizable transmission. 2nd gear is anemic down low, rendering slow-speed corner exit frustrating. In the top end, I ran out of revs barely over a third of the way down the back straight, well before the uphill transition. Despite the lack of top-end, the car broke the eight-minute mark with time to spare.

Overall Impressions: A very well balanced, fun-to-drive car, if a bit soulless in places. Very good call on the NA build... MUCH torquier powerband than the turbo. Adjustable gears would unlock a lot of speed, and, if longer than stock, would reduce some of the wheelspin and instability that probably neccessitated the tight LSD. A wing might be nice, too - with downforce, no LSD would be needed at all, and as compared to the 2KGT already in my garage, would likely shave over 20 seconds off its 'Ring time. I definitely understand why you chose not to add one though, the car's lines are STRIKING. There's a reason it was a Marque of Distinction at this year's Monterey Historics, and a VERY good reason Eon Productions put Kissy Suzuki in the ragtop version in You Only Live Twice - striking lines befit striking lines! ;-)
 
I really love the Blackbird and Trueno tuning. THey're really good and I love the handling. THey grip the road so well it's so hard for me to spin out. I really want to do the RX-7 FD R 01' but I can't seem to find one. How can I attain one? I am also going to try the Godzilla and a few others. Thanks a lot for posting these!! It's making Gran Turismo 4 fun again :).

So I will leave my Black SS Commodore with you and be back to pick it up later yes? No restrictions on mods other than r3 tyres, I want to eat some people's rides for breakfast.
p.s.- N/A tuning stage 3 please, not supercharger.

Thanks for the kind words, but let's correct two things here.

First, wait for a few hours and you'll see an increase in the amount of GM cars. ;)

Second, you scratch our back, we scratch yours. Test drive one car, that'll give you the right to ask for one in return. I recommend the one coming up next if you're into powerful GM models.

The rules have to be the same for everyone, that's why I'm asking you to test one car as the others have done it too. Making that Commodore is no problem, I already have one pretty good setup for it so you'll get it in just about no time. Just give us the review. 👍
 
here is my quick-review of the KPGC110 GT-R V-spec '73:

it's a fun car and very enjoyable for his "low" power. the braking is very good and the gearing just fits the power/torque of this nice classic-car. the suspension feels newer, but i'm glad you left some "classic-car-typical" body-roll in there.

overall i like the old Skyline very much, and you guys really made it an enjoyable ride!

With a yellow colour that shines like nothing else and enough power to tear the Sun down, this special edition Pontiac GTO wasn't named the Sundowner for nothing. Bringing back the spirit of the '69 GTO "The Judge" this vehicle doesn't look like much but the looks are betraying. Under the hood there is a race prepped V8 boasting 775 brake horsepower and an astonishing torque of exactly one thousand Newtons. The already impressive stock handling was further improved by fitting an adjustable track oriented suspension made of titanium instead of the original steel. And while we were on the business, the drivetrain was upgraded too. The original wasn't too shabby but the new one is better with a racing gearbox featuring straight cut cogs, connected to the powerhouse via a triple plate clutch capable of handling all that torque without any unwanted slipping. Transferring the power to the road is done by remarkably grippy race tyres, available as full slicks or cut according to the wishes of the customer. And boy does this thing go. It feels like it almost defied the laws of physics, 1400 kg feels like nothing and the lack of downforce is more than made up by the great levels of mechanical grip. American muscle at its finest.

You actually mention the car I had in mind on your opening page... I've been playing around with a full power Lancia Stratos on the 'ring and while its cornering is a blast with the gobs of natural oversteer, it HATES the heavily crowned stretches of track... falls off of it at the drop of a hat. It also tends to destabilize badly over hillcrests no matter how soft I spring it and with every conceivable combination of diff, camber and toe. Don't spend too much time on this one... I already have and it got a bit frustrating lol. But I'd love to see you take a crack at it since you specialize in more balanced tunes- wing and full power would be ideal. I'd like to see it on S2's since I like to use these cars for longer races but again, that may not prove feasible. Do what you need ;-)
 
All right, I shall see what I can do. I will probably do this together with Greycap, he has a soft spot for this old Italian mudroad monster.

Really wow thanks :D. I didn't think it was much of a review. I would like a Lancer Evo III but I think I read somewhere you are already working on one :). I know... How about the Z from Wangan Midnight? The main character's car :). I would really love that. Hmm no guidelines I can think of, just do what you do best!! By the way I was able to get the Bathurst R...man these setups are amazing! Thank you so much for your time and effort.
 
3000GT-R is the '98 MR-model. and you could had edited your previous post to ask that. Anyways, I'll get on the work with the "Devil Z", since I'm also looking that series. ;) and just for fun, why don't you take a look at Z-486 SC? it's quite close to the actual blue devil itself, without the lethality factor.👍

haha I didn't think of editing my post I was in a hurry to ask I guess :P. Well I did the 3000 GT with a VR 4. I'll try out the MR model. Thanks a lot for working on the Devil Z :D. I'll try out the Z-486 SC..hopefully I won't end up getting in an accident :lol:
 
i can recommend the Z-486 SC highly, so great cornering, so much grip, and a really nice acceleration............i'm looking forward to try the 300C this week!

In regards to the Sundowner GTO here is brief review
Turn in was great but still had a little understeer but was better than standard. Didn't seem to move as much under brakes as I'd have liked but good car nonetheless. I did hate the exhaust note though (sorry) so it was off with the new and on with the old.

So howz about that Commodore SS? Preferably no wing, driving aids. I'll be racing it without aftermarket exhaust but you can do watever in dat department. Any colour is fine and r3 tyres please (seein as I already got a spare set lyin around somewhere, man my garage is a mess!)

EDIT: here is my review of the 300C

this car really rocks guys!! so much power, so much torque, such a good acceleration. the brakes work wonderful for this big car and the handling is also unbelieveable for such a huge car. wheelspin in first two gears is obvious, but you can really nice drift corners with 3 gear and upwards.
the only two things which hurt me a bit were:
~ the tail gets a bit loose under braking, which leads to some maybe unwanted drifts
~ 6th gear could be a bit longer
but all in all a wonderful car, and i made a 2'03:6xx on Suzuka with it, great car 👍
 
if you read the presentation of the car, you'd spot the part saying that it's the most base/cheapest 350Z, that also is lightest.
 
Mine's GT-R Concept

Braking:
The car was lock-up the fronts on me on full brakes causing the car the straght on. I was able to back off a little from full braking to get this to stop.

Suspension:
The GT-RC is good at turn-in, middle, and exit of the turn. You can used the throttle to rotate the car in all parts of the turn if needed. At steady state throttle or full throttle in medium/high speed turns the car has a small amount understeer. You can work around this some by turning into the turn a little later. This is a good car and set-up for helping you learn smooth throttle control.

On a whole this is a fun car to drive with it's throttle or steering wheels.👍
