I find that incredible, and horrifying, especially the below quote:
"...to prevent the spread of the phenomenon among teenagers..."
They make it sound like a disease. Amazing to think we live in the 21st century really.

LOL, about time a thread like this exists. There's plenty of ridiculous issues to create a thread on, there should well be a "Ridiculous Malaysian Issues" thread, lol.

And jonjwlee, stupid country indeed.

Looks like the government is just pandering to keep popularity with the Muslim conservatives, when in reality those issues will not affect them nor their personal lives in any way. It's kinda like our Christian conservatives over here, only the President didn't declare these values/ideals as enemies.

When did Malaysia become so fear-mongering all of a sudden? Doesn't Malaysia have bigger issues to worry about instead of what people do in their own privacy?

Lesbians are said to be attracted to women, like to eat, sleep and hang out in the company of other women and have no affection for men
So women who like to have lunch with other women while shopping and complaining about their no good husbands are lesbians.

Be right back. I've got some news to break to my wife.

Seriously, though, labeling the "typical" LGBT based on these generalizations it like saying anyone with a cough has pneumonia. Sure, there's some overlap in the "symptoms" but it's clearly not definitive in the least. Grow up, Malaysia.

Do you know it makes it really hard to support the mainstream among religions when the leadership come out with bollocks of this nature.

Oh well at least the Muslim Right now have a nice lot of nonsense in common with the Christian Right.

Well, the elections are around the corner, so the government is trying to sway conservative/rural voters who really are concerned with such trivial matters, since liberals are going to vote for the opposition anyway. And this tactic is why the current party have been in power since our independence.

Exactly! Even brushing aside the morality of it, this whole thing doesn't make any sense, since there's a sizable proportion of the population that possess these "symptoms" and aren't in any way homosexual.

I don't think the Christian right openly support racial discrimination...

This is why I strongly believe that every single state on earth must be irrefutably secular.

Pathetic.

"Abnormal infatuation with corndogs..."

"Abnormal aversion to corndogs..."

I've come across enough that do support it openly or not, that however is beside the point, I didn't say they had everything in common, I said they had a lot in common.

One of the main ones being they both believe in the exact same God and have the exact same core religious text, not that you would believe either of those points from watching them go at each other.

Bloody hell, is that what a lesbian is then? Who knew, right?

Also, their gay list is missing some stuff. I see no mention of scatter cushions, nor Audi TTs. If the Malaysian government is going to come out with ridiculous stereotypes, they may as well go the whole hog.

Correct me if I'm wrong (I easily could be here, but I hope I'm not), but last I checked there is no explicit commandment against female homosexuality, only male homosexuality. Regardless, if Malaysia wants to be a religion-free government, this is (sarcasm) the most efficient and best way to implement it and be serious about itself! (end sarcasm).

Actually, Malaysia has a penal code criminalising any form of sodomy, regardless of sexual orientation. This has been around since the country was still in the hands of British rule.

While I was thinking Malaysia is a country far away from the Netherlands, over here some rather disturbing actions around homosexuality can also be found.

Untill very recently there was a Christian orthodox organisation called Different that offered medical cures against homosexuality. These medical cures have been paid for by everybody in the Netherlands (in the Netherlands everybody pays for health insurance).

Luckily our goverenment got notice and now they are trying to stop this funding of brainwashing.

I don't know if the finacial / EU issues can be considered bigger problems than the healing of gay symptoms.

If that's what you mean.

I think wondering if you're country is gonna have serious financial issues is more pressing than wondering what makes a person gay.:)

Sure financial issues are important. But freedom of s3ksuality is more important.

It is important, no doubt about that.

But something like that should be a matter handled by the public and not by government bureaucrats and their policies.

Now making sure that your entire populace on the other hand have jobs so they can put food on the table is something that requires some form of government intervention.

But that's for another topic.:)

At least your country doesn't worry about homosexuality "symptoms" while the country's economy is backsliding because of corruption...
