Malls and your experiences

Well the two shopping centres we have here are rather uninteresting. Supposedly Centro is a hub for all the tweenies to hang out when they're wagging school with their modified uniforms in order to "show as much skin" as possible.

I only go to a shopping centre when I know exactly what I need, and I am incredibly efficient at it as I want to spend as little time there as possible.

The exception to this is when I go to Adelaide or Melbourne with friends.

Guys that buy Porsches, have the Rogaine comb over and botox infused inflatable wives probably.

On another note, the Fashion Mall was a great looking place especially during holiday season.

Definitely. My favorite thing was when they had the 3-story christmas tree that they'd build over the big fountain. You could look out at the tree from every level, and they always had a great Santa.

Before they knock it down I'd like to live out my childhood fantasy of roller-blading through it like in Mighty Ducks.

You let me know if you get that oppurtunity, I always wanted to nail a few gaps in there along with knocking down some unity grinds in the food court ;-).

That mall also holds many memories with my first love. I would consider that time in life as the age of innocence.

Demo starts next year. ;)

The only thing that's staying is the Sheraton.

I think malls are more suited to a woman's style of shopping. You know, the 'look around for 6 hours and go home with nothing' technique.
As a man however I have to say I prefer the high street shops. I can find what I need online, get a price idea, locate the shop on a map and bam! In and out within 5 minutes. No need to work my way through the maze that most malls are.

There is a shopping place called the Greenhills Shopping Center which is just a walk away from the house. It's a popular tourist spot too, especially when hunting for bargain items.

It's also a haven for toy collectors like me, a collector of diecast cars...

...if you know where to look, as the hobby shops are like tiny holes-in-the-walls in which you have to look around and explore more or even make research.

Woodfield right? Like you said, it's not a dangerous place. But I find the whole mall in general the prices for everything a tad too high. Must be the tax rate up there.

Yep, Woodfield. Tax rate there is something like 9.5-10%. Even without the tax, prices seem to be jacked up compared to stand alone stores.

It is convenient to have all stores in one place, but I still try to avoid it. Especially around the holidays.

I used to go to one of the almost local malls. Stopped visiting it after they closed the full-on gokart track on the second floor. Now I never really go to malls. If I need something, I locate a specialty store where I can find what I'm looking for at a lower price.

People race through my local shopping centre... gets pretty annoying...

I recall a guy losing control of his mobility scooter and narrowly avoiding a friend of mine while walking through our local shopping centre. Ended up bumping into a bin while swearing discontentedly.

Hate them. Everyone walks too slow.

Slow walkers are an absolute pain in larger numbers. They're almost as bad as the people who walk in the opposite direction and proceed to drift into your path as if you're not there, even when you make a clear effort to avoid them. Either their heads are in the clouds, or they can't tell left from right.

Also groups of people that form a slowly moving wall of flesh. And the only way to pass them is to Jason Statham your way through them. Even worse when they stop for a chat and block the whole path without giving a single damn.

A shop my Dad used to manage once got ram-raided by an old guy in a mobility scooter. He went right through the window and took out a mannequin.

I just don't like malls... They are crowded places full of annoying people going into stores that don't sell anything useful for anyone other than those who spend money for the sake of spending money. These people tend to spend their time paying absurd amounts of money on things they will probably never use, but looked nice in the store.

My friend and me walked through the entire mall, visiting various stores and found absolutely nothing at all interesting or worth my time or money. The food was alright, but stupidly priced. There were countless girls clothing stores (because those are the people that use malls the most. Teenage girls who spend their parent's money on clothes); lots of food places; a CD store with about 3 items that were in the slightest interesting. But none I would buy (though to be fair, half of the bands I listen to are very unheard of in New Zealand. I have to import them all anyway.); a game store that was like most game stores... But smaller, and the typical NZ Walmart equivalent, "The Warehouse." Which doesn't sell anything decent anyway, because almost all NZ shops are budget compared to other countries anyway.

I'll stick to buying online, thanks.
