Ferrari drivers are better known for showing off on the road than for their respect for woodland creatures.
But one hedgehog in Germany got lucky when it strayed into the path of a Ferrari Testarossa-driving businessman – who was left with a £30,000 repair bill following their encounter.
Joerg Daecher, 53, was driving home on a route surrounded by woodland when he spotted the animal in his headlights.

Costly mistake: The Ferrari driver who tried to avoid a hedgehog in Lower Saxony, Germany, ended up swerving into a barrier, causing £30,000 damage
He swerved to avoid running it over, but the Ferrari slipped on wet leaves and smashed into a crash barrier near Eschershausen in Lower Saxony.

Escape: The hedgehog crossing the German carriageway (as well as the Ferrari driver) both escaped unhurt (file picture)
Police spokesman Markus Foerster said the damage to the car was estimated at around £30,000.
The damage caused in Germany was just a drop in the ocean compared to a supercar pile-up before Christmas.
In December a smash involving eight Ferraris, three Mercedes, a Lamborghini and a Skyline (aswell as a Toyota Prius), caused damage totaling a whopping £2.5m.
The thirteen high-end sports cars crashed on the Chugoku Expressway in Shimonoseki, Yamaguchi Prefecture, Japan, as one of the Ferrari drivers led a convoy of sports car connoisseurs.
Ten people were rushed to hospital after the smash on December 5, but none of their injuries were said to be serious.

*facepalm* Sorry animal lovers, but I'd rather keep my Testarossa rather than save a little hedgehog. I absolutely hate seeing Ferraris wrecked like this :ouch:

Lucky for him, the guardrail prevented worse. If it were a tree he wouldn't be reparing it anymore.
The hedgehog probably made the same face as the one in the photo

This is exactly why you never swerve for anything smaller than a badger.

Badgers will do damage if you hit one. Foxes not so much. Cats and hedgehogs? Not a chance.

As bad as I feel for the Ferrari and its driver, at least you can fix it. The hedgehog, not so much! Who knows, maybe this driver had a particular sense of morality, but at least the car isn't a write-off!

It's nice to see that this Ferrari driver is somewhat sensible, rather than these idiots who crash at 120 mph doing something stupid. I'm sure the hedgehog would have done a bit of damage to the car, if hit.

I think the Ferrari would've damaged the hedgehog more than the hedgehog would've damaged the Ferrari! But yeah, it's nice to see some humans who care about preserving life, especially when they fall inside the boundaries of the type of people who moist others commonly define as being decidedly uncaring about the environment.

True, but it said in the story that the only reason it hit the barrier was because of stray leaves. I don't think the Ferrari driver would've had time to consider that possibility, otherwise he might have elected to plow into the hedgehog. But he had no way of knowing - I believe he was under the impression that he could drive simply drive around it without smacking the barrier.
