Manufacturers Competition wk. 1 Closed

Yup, I had this 2 poll idea myself too. The downside is indeed the big amount of polls. But perhaps the compmaster (TF) can become mod so he can delete the closed polls?

The slight fundamental problem is that this comp should somehow reflect popularity of the makers (because of 'maker vs maker'), whereas the voting (which is the basic indication system) actually exclusively judges (indicates) the skill and quality of the individual (photgrapher/entrant).

But a makers' comp is surely an interesting idea, and indeed it will become something good after cooking it for a while ^^
I think we should all take some time to think about it, and get ideas and stuff.

One idea, for example, is to have very specific sylistic restrictions. For example "side view only". All shots for both makers would all be similar in showing the side of the car very well. So the design (side view) of the makers would be very apparent in the shot, and determine a big part of the shot's quality (and popularity). This already shifts the "interestingness" of the shot, from being fully photographic (individual), to also depending (for a big part) on the interestingness of the car (maker, NOT the photographer). So we'll have votes indeed partially based on the quality of the car. You know what I mean?
The design of the car (which doesn't depend on the talent of the photographer) will indeed be reflected in the voting (partially). And that's ofcourse what we're looking for.

But that's just one idea. There's a lot possible with this comp. (good potential). So let's come up with more ideas, ofcourse.

I can make changes in future weeks if i need to, but I think its good the way it is now. The only thing i might change is, I might just put all the entries in the polls instead of having a top ten for each one. I'll decide on that by the end of the week.

So lets get some more entries in and get this comp rollin!

Franz, isn't it the "Kusabi"? ;)

I like the shot though; excellent reflections 👍. I'm still trying to decide whether to go with Mazda or Honda/Acura. Mazda has a higher amount of good-looking cars imo, but the few good-looking ones at H/A are very much so. Tough choice.

a quick question. The rules seem to be quite flexiable with regard to photoshop, but I would just like to check if using mutiple layers in the editing process is OK?

If so I have a shot I have been waiting to use.

Hmm, since it seems Mazda's attracting the most attention, I think I will end up with a Honda car. Just to be different :D

Now, to pick one...

Hey franz, nice shot! Is that Hong Kong? And is Hong Kong in China or Japan? I should know that, but for some reason I can't seem to firgure if it's China or Japan!

Man I still spell it wrong ... what's up with that?!?
To answer 440's question, that is HongKong
it used to be part of UK, now belongs to China

I think Mazda has more interesting cars than Honda
also because I am a Mazda fan :D

Hong Kong in Japan . Shame on you! :P

I have 2 nice set of shots of both Honda and Mazda, they kinda go together. I'll put them up sometime.

Oh man, I gotta choose between 2 of my fave var manufacturers. :indiff:
If it's TVR vs. Aston Martin next weeek I swear i'll go nuts trying to choose. :P
Anyway, [place holder]. I'll probably get the pics up tomorrow.

Great shots so far guys! For the first two weeks, everyone that enters a pic will be in the polls. It might switch to a top ten for each poll after that. It will probably depend on how many entries we get, and how it works for the first two weeks.

I wanted to say that layers were ok, but i dont think there are alot of people that know how to use them well. So its a little bit of an advantage for the few that do.

Not a problem, I will just go back to the original and edit it without layers, it will just take a bit longer.
